4 days later im past palkia trying to catch the trio's... and burning through a ton of pokeballs trying. Have bf playing other game so I can get his pearl onlys and guess ill get an AR device for the rest since im not buying and running through all of emerald again. Havent been able to use wifi at all though, does the local wifi built in to the ds connect to any wifi hotspot or does it have to be specially configured? also, whats the halfmoon looking wifi thing you can get for ds? Booster or just necessary to use nintendo wifi?
You don't use Poke Balls to catch Uxie, Azelf, and Mesprit. Either wait until night and use
Dusk Balls. Or hunt them down with
Ultra Balls. If you want to do it the easy and traditional way, follow my advice.
Don't bother chasing down Mesprit right now, go catch Uxie and Azelf in their respective lakeside caves. They won't run and teleport out onto the Sinnoh world map if Mesprit is still out and about (atleast that's what happened for me). So you can catch Azelf and Uxie the traditional way and not worry about them running in battle. Use
Dusk Balls, because they're more effective inside Caves and at Nighttime (the fight takes place in a cave).
Then go catch yourself a Lv. 40 Bronzong. Make sure it knows the moves Hypnosis, Gyro Ball, Block, and Shadow Ball.
Put it in the first position in your party, give it a
Quick Claw to make sure it gets the first attack, since Mesprit is faster than a slow old Bronzong. Open the fight with "Block". This prevents Mesprit from running from battle. Alternatively, the move "Mean Look" (From pokemon like Ghastly, Haunter and Machop) does the same thing as Block. Since Bronzong is a Steel / Psychic type, and well-defended, and Mesprit's a Psychic type, they can both whittle away at one another. Alternate between "Gyro Ball" and "Shadow Ball" to get Mesprit's health down, then use Ultra and Dusk Balls to catch it.
Or, you can do what I did. Wait until after you beat the Elite Four and get the National Pokedex from Professor Oak, then transfer Pokemon over from FireRed / LeafGreen and have them carry the Master Balls you had from that version. Go get your Pokemon back in the Pal Park, then get the Master Balls off them and use them as you see fit.
Honestly, about the Wi-Fi thing... You don't have to buy a Nintendo Wi-Fi USB Connector, you know. That's optional. The other alternative is to do what I did and buy yourself a
Wireless Router. The Router I bought was
D-LINK WBR-2130 RangeBooster G Router. Works perfectly with my Nintendo Wii and Nintendo DS. My entire house is one big Access Point now as soon as you walk through the front door.
If you want a list of compatible routers, troll around for the list that Nintendo has up on

We're in the "Wi-Fi" Era now. Wired connections are slowly being fizzled out. Gotta get with the times!

About Pokemon Trading in general. You don't even need an action replay on DS really. Just beat the Elite Four and use the GTS Tower in Jubilife City. Take advantage of the Japanese Players on the network.
You see, they want to complete entries for Pokemon in the "National" Dex. At a certain stage, you can get Multi-lingual entries for Pokemon. But only for specific Pokemon like Pikachu, Staryu, Ponyta, etc ...
Pikachu was, and still is the "Hot Item" on the market. If you want a Pokemon, just take a Pikachu (which can be caught in Diamond and Pearl even before fighting the Elite Four), and drop it off in the GTS Tower and leave a request for the Pokemon you want in exchange for it. Turn off you DS, go about your daly life, and check back periodically--Pokemon deposited in the GTS Tower are saved on Nintendo's servers, so you can turn off your DS and "log on" later to check.
That's how I got a Japanese Palkia (the legendary on the box art of "Pearl") named パルキア ("PARUKIA"). And yes, there is no regional encoding, and you can trade with English and Japanese versions.
To make sure I get the pokemon I want, I have Pikachu (or whatever pokemon) carry a nice item, like a Master Ball or something. If there's a pokemon I want, however... I like to have a little fun with it. Like there was once a Misdreveous I wanted--the person wanted a Murkrow for it. So I went out, caught a Murkrow and named it "Dog Turd".
The game's dialogue was interesting. "What do you want to do with this Dog Turd." ... "Give (Player Name) the Dog Turd?" ... "Wild (Pokemon) appeared! Dog Turd! Go!" *Throws it at the Pokemon*
... Good times.
If you want to know a bit more, feel free to ask.
I'm breeding alot of my Pokemon I've transferred over from FireRed. Go go Ditto, the Poke-whore!
