pol.exe crashes

Hey guys, hope i can post it here, any idea for this problem?

POL works fine, can log-in, press the play button, all right. At the character screen i choose my main character and press enter.. I can see the log on lower right *downloading data* and it crashes. All other chars works fine (mules)

1. Checked files with POL - no errors
2. Format C:
3. Completly new installation of game from original discs
4. No 3rd party software installed, like windower etc.
5. GM couldn't help :-(

after that:
still the same error, my friend tried to log-in, works... He moved to another zone to be sure it's not a .dat error.
But i have a second account with Whitegate and Nyzul access tho, that account works without any issues, why only at this one character an error??

I fixed pol.exe and ffximain.dll from my friends computer to my HD, nothing changed.
Changed Router data and firewall aswell, i googled some hours too..

If anyone know this problem, plz help me out^^; I'm done lol

This problem just started when i zoned, have that configuration since 3 years w/o any problems, did no updates or anything. It's only one character i can't log in anymore...

If you need any other information just let me know please.
 
next thing I can think of is you need to call POL heh have fun with that XD
 
I have been having a problem with pol myself.. with pol crashing for no reason. I have uninstalled and everything.. nothing seems to fix the problem.. it all started with that big update this summer ..and ever since.. specially when i go to like jugnar or crawlers nest.. pol crashes everytime.
Any ideas on this one?
 
A .dll files may be interrupting something. Like, how for me. I can't launch FFXI or CS at the same time since there is a file in my system folder that prevents me from doing it. I think there might be an program you may have downloaded that conflicts with the game. Not sure why it would affect just those zones for you diamond. Though for you Alexeyk. Have you edited your .dat files at all? Might be missing a .dat file of a piece of armor your character wears or of a character in that zone since I assume all pieces of armor load on the character selection screen? Those are the only things I can think of.
 
I'm no computer expert, but it seems like a Video/Graphics card issue to me. If it's crashing on log-in, post POL screen, and with a fresh install, I'd take a shot in the dark and say that your card has burned out. I'd take my problem to the Computer Talk forum and see if you can get any help over there from someone that knows more than I do.
 
Try updating some drivers and then re-install POL. When I put a fresh install of FFXI on my laptop after a fresh XP Pro SP2, I would try to log in my whole computer would crash or POL would crash. Turns out my video card and my sound card needed to be updated with the latest drivers. Try that and see if it works.

I've changed my .DAT files before and if a .DAT file is missing, that should not inhibit FFXI from starting normally; if anything the armor, game animation, sounds, etc associated with the .DAT files in question, will not occur or show up on screen. For the game to crash however, there have to been some significant file corruption or missing amount of files. That being said, .DAT files missing is a highly unlikely reason for a POL crash.

I tried the live-chat from POL now, they don't know what it can be... So I install game AGAIN on my 2nd HD, maybe a sector is damaged.
 
Finally a new installation didn't repair it, but to my 2nd hard drive seems to be a success. I could log in again^^ Thanks for all your answers!! Take care hopefully it's never happen to you :/ Two installations with a 4 hour update in two days is hard...

Probably a problem with the HD. I had that happen once but a fresh reboot resolved it. IDK glad to hear you got it working.
 
This happened to me before...game crashed as I zoned into Heaven's Tower, couldn't log in on that char :x

Was fixed when I logged in on a different computer and moved my char from that zone, and I was able to log into my original computer again.

So it works for you on your second hard drive, but now that you moved your char, I'm curious, can you log in again on your first HD?
