If you're getting banned for plugins, that's another story entirely. Essentially it's like saying "I was just playing FFXI." when in reality you were playing FFXI with something (fleetool, etc) added on to it.
All in all, if they want something gone, they aren't going to be vague about it. If they're banning for windower, they will make it known without a doubt that's what they're going after.

Shut up about what? It's another banning thread, inevitably there are going to be people "lol i wuz banned 4 windowar". It's going to happen, if not here, then somewhere else.
And as far as buyers go, it's a LOT harder to target buyers without hitting legitimate players than it is to go for RMT. All they have to do is give Joe Clueless some gil, and there's another "buyer".

I don't blame them for wanting it gone. It is a security vulnerability first and foremost. In addition to that, it offers exploits we technically aren't supposed to have, yet the client has them anyways (ie... party TP).
I dunno how they will respond if people don't use their windower. I don't even think it is fair to speculate at this point. If they offer their own windower, they very well could take a firm stance against windower, but as of yet - windower has seemed to be the overlooked midget in a crowd of towering 3rd party apps.

I don't quite see where you're going with this. They hate it so much... that they're adding the functionality to their client directly? If anything, they're giving windowed mode to everyone so that it removes the one legitimate reason FFXI's players had to be running 3rd party apps. The only thing left...
Windower adds nothing to the game, plugins for windower provide additional "functions". All they do is rest within windower. There's a bit of a gap between windower and its plugins.
Also, FFXI isn't getting "a windower", they're getting a windowed mode just like any other game ever. I don't know why people keep bringing up this nonsense as if it'll be some strange Square-Enix brand windower program, but I'm pretty sure it won't be.

You're bringing it up is only going to lead to another "cheat vs. windower" derail when it really doesn't need to be addressed anymore than it already has. Everyone knows if you are banned it's because you are using hacks and not because you are using windower. If it was the other way around, 1000's of players per server would be banned instead of a small handful.
As for targeting gil buyers, you can do it just as easily as targeting RMT. SE cannot just trade anyone and say "OMG, you are buying my gil. Surprise, You're BANNED!" From my understanding, that's basically entrapment(someone can correct me if I am wrong). SE probably knows where the gil is since they are banning the accounts which store the gil and if they would just follow those accounts around to see who they trade it to, they can easily tell who is and isn't buying. I know removing the source of the gil is probably considered the easiest method, but if the people buying see no direct consequences, they will just continue to do it. If they get banned or know of someone who did, maybe they will think twice about it.
One of the things I enjoyed most about the windower was the party tp thing. Infact on my laptop I didn't even use windowed mode it was full widescreen I just ran it for that plugin.
If they do make a windower someone should hing they need to add that plugin to the game so everyone ps2 360 and pc all get use out of it

I dont know if its right to ban buyers right away. The current deflated market and the insanity that is the AH can drive anyone to extremes. However each time they do a banning run they slap some people on the wrists and say stop that(i.e. 72 hour suspension). I think all suspected buyers should be suspended to send a message that it is damaging and there are consequences for both sides. I wouldn't like people to lose a character they have been using, for years possibly, over a single poor decision.
Then I don't see windower going awat :/

Everytime I read about accounts being banned I think of one thing. Prices going down again. SE let these RMT run the economy far too long and now everytime some are removed, it makes it that much harder as a crafter to make money. I now make 5 times less per crafting session then I used to. I know the rational is well everything is just "normalizing" itself. But honestly, after adjusting for the inflation, I was far richer comparing gil earned to current prices when the RMT were in full force. ><

I wish they could detect the crafters better. Right now, *legit* crafters are getting hit especially hard because it seems the RMT groups getting a lot of attention are the big NM ones. Main RMT income now = crafters.

Actually, this announcements SE make get scarier each time because the numbers get lower. Who will they turn their attention to when there are no more "really bad" violators? Will they cross that line of banning windowers users just for just using it? D=
