POL NEWS : Accounts Banned + Report (Mar. 25)

An idiot for doing an SC, an idiot for telling random people in detail about your third party programs, or an idiot for making a banstick stink over relatively harmless third party programs?

Triple the idiocy!
Just because it's "relatively" harmless doesn't mean it doesn't deserve punishment. Granted, they aren't expending resources to go after it actively, which is fine by me for the moment, but it's a nice reminder that no, they don't want you doing it.

alliance member's MP
PS2

party/alliance member's TP
Intended teamwork the game was designed around.

That being said, I agree with you that they should find a workaround for alliance MP. Until then, there are two full sets of users who can't see that information normally, and SE is actively saying that you do not have the right to alter the client to view it.

Honestly, I think it's all pretty simple. Like a lot of people would say about other things: "If you don't like the rules, feel free to leave."

I think we've been over this, Garvin. And I think it's best just to accept that you like to adopt a holier than thou, SE's word is law, nobody knows better than they do what a good UI is, black and white viewpoint.

And I prefer to decide for myself, at the risk of being legally "wrong" (but morally "harmless"), what's actually conceptually problematic with the game, especially after multiple demonstrations by SE that they have no effing clue about half the stuff in this game, UI included.

I could spell out my viewpoint in great depth. You could spell out yours in great depth. But we've been over this, and I think we should just agree to disagree. (And I still think that people who would call for banstick for TParty as a crime equivalent to botting, need a ridiculously large dose of perspective, because they're obviously lacking in it.)

Just started reading the posts about the SSG fishing area...had me worried for a sec. Whelp, time to once again commit fish genocide.

Yeah. Agreeing to disagree is probably the best idea. The only thing that can really be done anyway is to see where SE goes from here, and that hopefully won't be for a long time, since they really do have many bigger fish to fry. They've made their stance clear though, and for the moment, that's good enough for me.

I do just want to point out at the very least that I don't think TParty is even close to being on the level of botting, and the punishment should scale accordingly. Small warnings and day-week bans at most or something.

There are a lot bigger problems that need cleaning up first though, and with 10k more bans, we're definitely getting there. Let's go for 10k more.

exactly how is seeing PT MP and TP game breaking? i dont have the plugin but just wondering... doesnt it simply... show MP and TP?

Yep. It basically eliminates the intermediary step of spamming party lines reporting MP and TP status. Overall it's rather convenient, but it does cut down on some interaction. Granted, it's not the most interesting interaction in the world.

And Garvin, I agree - SE has bigger fish to fry than UI quirks. Having said that, it also has *smaller* fish to fry than UI quirks, and while UI doesn't really majorly affect game balance, there's something to be said for keeping it up to date and in mind of player wishes of what they'd like to be able to do. And not just in a sense of "yep, that's your wish, and we decided long ago that we don't want to do it that way, and we're not even gonna consider your arguments because we've already decided, and that's it". But in an actual sense of, ya know, *considering* player arguments and *reconsidering* their own stances on things.

We shouldn't have to wait as long for as bad quality, as we did to get an official windowed mode. We shouldn't have to wait as long as we did for more macros, only to still be limited to 6 lines (which neatly thumbs its nose at SE's own policy of sidegrading equipment rather than upgrading - their right hand is quite obviously *not* talking to their left hand), and still have macros be sluggish and unresponsive.

UI improvements aren't a *pressing* concern. But they *are* a concern that should be addressed sooner or later, and since it's been a concern for a few years now, I'm thinking there's been quite enough "later" by now and it's about time for some "sooner".

(And I've really got to wonder just what SE *does* spend its FFXI subscription income on, if it can't spare a few developers to seriously address this concern. Or for that matter, any other concern. They are, in general, really slow about dealing with anything other than immediate game-breaking emergencies, and sometimes they're none too fast about those either.)

Of course, the use of external programs displaying party members' TP or alliance members' MP is prohibited. If the Special Task Force can verify that a player has been using such programs, this evidence can be used to ban the player in question.
AKA: Don't be stupid and tell people online you're using TParty.
I don't really care whether or not you're using TParty, but if you are, don't be a dumbass and tell me you know my TP. Chances are, if I hate you, I'll report you for the lulz.

It isn't in the game because the PS2 can't handle it, much like alot of things in the game. People like Garvin get their panties in a twist because it makes them feel moral and superior, when in reality it just makes them look snobbish.

Also, they can't detect it under the current ToS (Which was pointed out back when these topics started popping up) so don't worry. Just don't tell the GM your TParty Plugin is broken and that they should patch it.
Yes, its easy to detect, and games like WoW allow the company to do so by having the program scan your processes and report back, and having you agree to this every time you sign in by agreeing to their ToS. SE's ToS says they can't and won't do that, so you're safe.

In Alabama, its legally wrong to have sex doggystyle.
In another state, it is legally wrong for women to have sex on a meat desk on Sundays. It is, however, legal for men.

You mean legally wrong/morally harmless that way?

I agree xD

Isn't it illegal to go whale hunting in Montana or something?

Actually, PS2 could handle showing it. The server sends this information to you anyway, so there's nothing extra for the PS2 to process. The only thing required is for the PS2 to visually show this, which I doubt would make the PS2 crash.

Considering how astonishingly BAD the PS2 looks, I wouldn't put it past it to crash from that. It still needs to interpret and display the data, which might push it too far, or something.

Its funny how they ban some people and everyone gets happy. You know booo bad gil sellers and etc ... How about they fix the game? Or actually improve it more than once every 3-5 months? Asking too much I know.

...and thus, was irony reborn, and hilarity did ensue.
