POL news : Balrahn weapons

Anyway, since I already stated I'm not going to feed the derail any further than I already did (and besides, I'm always right), back on track.

Reading the flavor text makes me doubt that we'll actually be "upgrading" the Nyzul weapons at all, really. These aren't like the Dynamis Relics that were lost during the Crystal War, these are supposedly all still within the Imperial palace.

I'm wondering if the whole process is going to involve making the Nyzul weapon into a convincing fake, and swapping it out for some inordinate price.

Well the current nyzul weapons look nothing like these ones so maybe if a convincing fake is needed, you still have to upgrade the nyzul ones to copy these =P

Aye, that's what I was talking about.

I also suspect that they're going to institute some new mechanic for the upgrade process, assuming there is one. Using any of the existing Aht Urghan points systems would be... overly simplistic I think, since a lot of people have tons of points stockpiled, and that would either force SE to set the points costs ridiculously high or to simply find some new way of doing them.

Fight in the Colosseum mebbe, who knows...

Colosseum would make sense. FIGHT FOR GLORY! And get awarded the weapon for your jaerb. Pokemon works the same way!

I hope these wont be as difficault and as long winded to obtain then our beloved relic weapons!! But these must go hand in hand with the new weaponskills we was told about maybe? (namely in the WOTG trailer!). Also, doing a quick google search on the Kenkonken, look what I found:

Interesting, I wouldnt mind some real life detail on those but that website isnt in english *continues to research!*
ps. why dont we have any PUP and BLU JSE yet ;( or AF2 for that matter!

Edit 2: A few interesting possible facts about Balrahn:
Spoiler:
He was a former Emporer of Aht Urhgan.
His son (Jalzahn?) was the prince who took to Ghatsad's puppets when everybody else shunned them.
His son (Jalzahn?) was assisinated.
Appears to be skilled in all jobs much like Maat.
On the whitegate map, there is a way named after him.
His eye was taken by the Kenkonken.
Balrahn was the most celebrated hero in the history of Aht Urhgan.

I don't know how much of that is actually revealed via the ToAU storyline (I havnt played through it all yet) so I put it in spoiler tabs.

Its anyones guess as to how we are going to upgrade these weapons, but given the current way to upgrade Dynamis Relic's(ancient currency), do any of you think SE will have something like "Ancient Imperial Coins" drop from Nyzul Isle mobs or maybe even drop in normal assaults?

You know however they plan to do it, it's going to take a very long time I would imagine.

My bad if this has already been talked about or shot down. Was reading the thread intently until all the F'n derails about ways to hold weapons in RL.

It would be cool if those blades only popped out when you parry, but I doubt they'd make it that advanced :p Its just not SE, so I'm sure it'll have the blades out all the time.

Kinda wish they would make them have animations. Pld get a flaming sword, Darks get glowing red scythe/great sword, Blm get a serpent staff that moves. War get double edge great axe that can be broken into two axes. May add little more lag, but hey it look cool.

I don't think it'll add more lag than GM armor >.O

I see it clearly now, you'll have to kill the Dark Rider in order to upgrade it, he is clearly wanting to steal those wepons back.

PS2 limitations is the correct response I believe.

We can see the gm armor just fine why could they not make the same effects on weapons. Comeon if everquest can do it ffxi could.

That would be cool. I would settle for simpler even, though. Like, when you have it put away, it's just like a normal looking dagger, and when you pull it out there's a little animation of pressing the button and the other blades pop out.

To both of you, GM appearances are rare and usually (always?) only 1 at a time.

There might be some problems if you had 100 animated adventurers running around.

GM armor doesn't actually add any lag, though. Well, maybe on Playstation 2, but not on a computer. You can add the flashy GM effects (which, btw, is the same as the Avatar glow), by simply adding (read: changing) a little code to the end of the .dat in the armor.

Sure, if everyone in Dragon's Aery had one equipped it might lag (not like it doesn't lag already anyway), but then again, SE already gives you the option to limit the amount of players shown on the screen, so I doubt it would make a lot of difference. Besides, SE could simply add an option where you can disable it if you so wish.

Either way, SE is lazy. That's good enough reason for them not to add it.

note the shiny weapons and this is from the everquest online adventure game (ps2 mmorpg of everquest[pc version much better]) and came way before ffxi. Ps2 limitations try again.

You are aware that that game isn't nearly as detailed as FFXI, right?.....

There is not noticeable lag when a GM shows his pretty face when I play on PS2.
All you guys lose.

Quite aware, are you aware that this came out even before the ps2 hard drive was made so it don't even have going for it.
uses a memory card to save its games configs and game characters on. Rest come on the disk.
