POL NEWS : Battle Adjustments part 2(08/23/2007)

=D

<3 the bst update

yay now the bst can stop bitching about not getting any updates. im content.

All I can say is, they'd better not touch martial arts when they fuck around with Dual Wield...it's not like monks can't switch to a 2-handed weapon or anything like WAR can.

Now all beastmasters who are 75. Gather round. begin the scouting, I smell Very Tough to Incredibly Tough charming and two houring occuring at 75 again. Go rape a Even match area with a IT mob 2 houred for no exp loss. Use stay to heal your pet. Finally, 10-15k exp in 30mins. Alot better then 3-4k a hour solo. This way we can spike our exp gain every 2 hours.

This...is a fantastic idea.

There's a huge ammount of primadonna COR's, and horribly bad or gimped COR's as well. Such as COR's that refuse to actually use their guns, or the kind that want to melee with loldagger or lolsword to get TP and then use slug shot.

Uzor, I agree there are quite a few primadonna CORs out there, but I've yet to see one not use their gun. What I do see though are CORs that never double-up on 6, and therefore never bust (not realizing their avg roll bonus is way lower).

But I have to comment on the melee COR. I've recently hit 75 on mine and so far for me it seems more efficient to take advantage of haste, multi-hit weapon (read: joyeuse), and melee rolls (double attack, etc.) for TP, and then take a step back and unload slug.

This obviously isn't a good technique if the mob you're fighting has annoying AoE such as amnesia, but if you wouldn't mind, please enlighten me why a cor that melees for TP is so gimp.

yeah cause ninjas are much more proficient with GK! fuck with that dual wield so we can gimp war/nin!

mnks can use staff, they have a B+? or A? in it somem like that :P

Too bad it won't work since people are reading too literally and not using common sense. It's talking about the 30% xp reduction having a pet when the mob dies, not the xp penalty of having a higher level pet since that raises the party level of your "party".

Yeah, seriously. =P

Not to mention that if it worked that way, people could just hop into any zone where levels vary massively (CN, Attowha, Bostanieux) and charm one of the higher-level mobs (Crawler Hunter, Tracker Antlion, Bloodsucker) and mass-kill the weaker monsters in the area (Worker Crawler, L40ish Goblins, Werebats) very, very easily. It'd be a cute (albeit broken) toy post-70ish, but earlier on it'd be especially broken =/ 15k/h at L30ish would be just plain sick, and entirely possible if they removed the T+ mob XP penalty.

Now...I know as well as the next BST that it's hard to get great XP, but if this were the case, it'd just open the window to a hoarde of very crappy BSTs who don't know what they're doing. And really, that problems bad enough as it is...

COR's that never double up on 6 are stupid. Never doing that means its impossible to get an 11 on the good rolls, unless you roll on 5 which is the lucky roll. And doing that makes them even more stupid.

As for the shooting part... if you go in to melee with a sword, you'd build TP at around the same speed (perhaps slower), but do less damage/tp dealt. Your overall damage will increase if you shoot from afar. You can deal roughly 80-120 damage per shot as a COR, and you can shoot roughly 6-8 times per minute, thus gaining over 100 TP per minute as well as dealing roughly 680 to 960 damage per minute through shooting alone, not counting the slug shot which deals anywhere from 550 to 850 depending on the mob you fight. Then there's Quick Draw, which tend to do around 230 damage for me at 66 with Vulcan's Staff. Then there's Barrage every 5 min, which is also quite a decent TP booster.

Its more expensive then playing it the gimp way, but its hellova lot more fun, and speeds exp up.

Admitedly, I don't know exactly how it is at 75, but I don't think it changes THAT much from 66, other then that fights might be a bit faster, thus not allowing you to shoot as much.

Admitedly, I tend to cheapen down in parties that don't draw in awesome exp for one reason or another. But in parties that I highly enjoy being in I tend to go lose, and can waste over 12 stacks of bullets in 3 hours. Expensive, but fun. That's over 115k per party in bullets alone, hence why I tend to save it for parties that gain good exp/hr

I don't have any of these jobs leveled but this update makes me want to hump a taru all over again. Congrats to the three jobs on getting what they've been waiting for. Which, even if its done wrong, is a least a nod of attention from SE.

I never melee'd on cor until 70 when I was able to use joyeuse and ohat. And even then I hardly melee'd cause we were almost always exping on imps.

For this argument we have to assume the COR has a joyeuse because I can't see how meleeing for TP with any other weapon available to cor would be more effective than shooting.

As cor, a high % of our dmg comes from weapon skill. At merit level, the dmg/delay ratio when TPing with gun is pretty sad when compared with any other dd. The difference in DOT from using joyeuse and gun for TP (completely ignoring weapon skills) is minimal in my experience. But, the multi-hit ability of joyeuse dramatically increases your rate of TP build. I haven't done any parses to compare what's more effective, this is just my observation from playing the job both ways. Ignoring time spent rolling, TPing in this way has allowed me to fire slugs off at a rate that is definitely faster than once per min.

Also, I wanted to note that just because you have a joyeuse equipped main hand, doesn't mean you can't make use of barrage.. and in merits, quick draw has proved much more useful for sleep/dispel than spent on 200ish dmg.

this bst update is pretty meh imo.

who the fug uses tough mobs anyway? They dont stay charmed long enough. Anyways, it's still a good idea, and I'm going to lvl bst again.

I don't know if someone has ever thought of this for PUP, but I think a perfect solution for the WHM type would be for SE to implement a system sort of like gambits in FFXII. That way you can set up your own type of restrictions for your PUP to operate so that it will cure the right people when certain requirements are met.
