POL News: Battle System Adjustments (14/08/2007)

It's about time they did something like this!

Lets just hope the buffs to 2-Handed weapons are large enough to get more and more people away from subbing /NIN and subbing something else like MNK or SAM.

Wouldn't mind seeing the return of the WAR/MNK tank with a big ol' Great Axe as a weapon.

(damn now I gotta skill up my Great Axe AND Great Sword, BAH!!!)

Actually, on Warrior, I have a rather nice build revolving around Fortitude Axe. In a merit party, with it, I realized that subbing SAM in the party would have killed me. NIN sub actually saved my ass in this instance.

Anyhow, this update has me more excited about the possibilities with this axe now. I do believe I can justify switching my merits over now to Great Axe instead of Axe. Or just doing Great Axe by itself on the side.

I've been waiting for this update since the day they announced they were looking to fix 2-handed weapons... And oddly enough, they took the exact direction I figured they would take, lol.

While not designed to bring about radical improvements...

I am guessing that their intention isn't to rewrite the entire standard. Basically, they want to shorten the gap that has already been widening while at the same time not removing it entirely. I don't believe they will ever surpass WAR/NIN dual wielding axes simply because the DW gives such a huge reduction in delay especially with suppa. I can't see SE giving any weapon or type of weapons such a mass reduction or damage boost that DW can give.

Eh, I'd be willing to bet it'll be comparible.

You must've read some things I haven't seen about the update. Did they say they were taking away Utsusemi from people that subbed nin? Maybe it also said somewhere that mages would be granted unlimited MP while in xp/merit? If it didn't then the only thing people would be getting away from by not subbing nin in meripo is decent xp/hr.

I was hoping that this 2handed change they've been talking about was more towards the game mechanics and not just something else to equip and have to shell out gil for. Unless these things are going to be bought from vendor NPCs then expect to be gouged if you plan on getting them soon after the update.

I am creaming my pants in the air, right now. Very happy I merited GA first.

While /nin may still be necessary at least this may close the gap in parser results between 2A and GA. I'd bank that the grips will add a static amount of TP per hit, to make it easier for a GA or any 2H wielder to hit 100% in the same amount of time as a DWer.

Yeah, and with the addition of increased damage via 2 handed weaponskills... man this looks good for Fort. Axe. I'm excited to go merit with it for the first time in a while.

Fort. Axe for meriting and Martial Bhuj being even quicker to a 300tp SC for HNM...sexy

Not to mention that now Rune Chopper might be a viable alternative for those who can't get Fortitude or Perdu. Still gonna have to stick with Berserker's myself, but I lost my virginity to her so it's more sentimental than sensible.

Actually, that's a great point with the chopper...with Sanction Refresh its definately a feasible option.

Woot, now my melee career can finally begin!

Oh snap. I hope the "deal[ing] more damage than they have in the past" coupled with the right grip will finally make jobs like drk and drg more attractive for a merit pt and just in general. Maybe the age of war/mnk/nin only for cannons will finally die and I can play more on my drk w/o having to dread getting my buffer back, lol.

I thought you only had brd and whm?

LOL! You have a DRK Rappa ?! And yes seeing teh demise of Cannon is a welcome change...

Assuming that this offers enough of an edge to encourage people to invite DRKs and whatnot to cannon, it's hardly the death of the cannon party, but rather just a small shift in what is included in one.

I've done a tp cannon on drk a few times. Granted I'm a bit better geared than most drks (not all), but I found myself easily keeping up with the pace and my guillotines doing just fine vs their rampages, plus I have fun things like souleater and absorb-tp and the like. Hopefully this update will just open minds up a bit more towards who people invite to pt with them.

Yeah, somethin along the lines of another TP nerf, or maybe a removal of one of the Duel Wield traits. if not NIN main or somethin. Just make it where other subs become more favorable. Reguardless, seriously something needs to be done about the cannons.

Utsusemi: Ni to 38 would probably see a significant curtailment of the typical cannon party. A minor Dual Wield nerf along with it would probably see WAR/SAM with a Great Axe becoming the new cannon, but all in all, I doubt either will ever happen.

Why bring up job changes if you're just gonna push them back to another topic?
Also, this probably means that grips'll be released around the time I start working on Retribution. Might make it easier to solo the point.
