POL NEWS : New Assault Missions and Mercenary Rank! (05/24/2007)

Seems rather ridiculous to me. The Perdu weapons seemed like a good means of helping balance out all the jobs who lacked a weapon with decent damage:delay ratio and came with a decent boost to boot; it actually somewhat levelled the playing field, making Bow/Scythe/Sword (I sortof wonder about the club, Perdu Hanger/Club on BLU would be a damn ton of att/acc...but blagh) somewhat less laughable. With something like Perdu Katana they may as well just toss in Perdu Axe, Perdu Cesti and Perdu Dagger and imbalance them all over again.

Well, Cesti, Dagger, and Axe wouldn't exist. Since the Perdu Weapons, even if this Katana is a mirror, were added because of Waghs, Blau, and Maneater. Thats why you're not seeing a Perdu Great Katana, because Onimaru exists. In a sense, it's fair for a Katana version to be around, as Katana didn't have one of these weapons.

Also, it might not be as easily attained as GET RANK, SPEND POINTS. Remember, theres a new battle ground type coming in. It could be hellaciously tough to get. It doesn't have a name yet, after all.

Hello thar Maneater and Blau Dolch

Knew someone'd jump on that. =P

In spite of them having their own "Perdu" style weapons for a while now, they still don't get nearly as much of a weapon array as NINs do; WAR and THF get, what, two or three weapons to choose from that aren't considered utterly laughable. MNK also only gets two.

Thats somewhat straying from the point, however...as far as damage, WAR/NIN/THF/MNK are all somewhat on top, and with the new stuff they added, they sortof compensated DRK/RNG/BLU with the new items (And apparently forgot all about DRG...)

If they're gonna screw around and give NIN a relatively large, uneeded boost, they may as well do it to the other top jobs as well. =P

While it could be seen that they're getting it just so all jobs have one, wouldn't we just as easily then ask where the Enstun axes are? There's high level Club/Dagger/Katana/Bullets, after all...but I digress, I still don't think they should get something so good when they already have the unquestionably powerful Senjuinrikio...if they're gonna give NIN two insanely good weapons, they could at least fix Rampager, Gravedigger, Retributor, etc. so they're -remotely- worth using.

Harpe, p.harpe, stylet, siroco.

I'll agree with WARs not having much choice, as well as MNKs.

NIN has Senji/fudo senji/unji or unji/unsho. The latter running you 3mil to put together.

No job has a plethora of options, there are generally one or two weapons that are considred the best.

Theres also a Marksmanship-class weapon missing(COR,) Great Axe, and a Staff.

Thats assuming the 16 Attack and 5 Accuracy outweigh an offhand critical rate weapon with higher damage..

Theres a reason Monks don't use Waghs, even though their ratio is similiar to Destroyers - the +6% Critical Rate on both attacks blows away the Attack and Accuracy boosts. Fudo/Senju will likely still win out, or whatever the winning combo is lately. The Weapon Damage on this nameless Katana is pretty low. And that would hurt, where as the Perdu weapons and Waghs, Maneater, and Blau have fairly high damage. The only thing better in a lot of cases are rare HQs, or Relics.

If this thing had 36 or 37 damage, then yes, I'd worry. But it's a measely 32 when the latent is active. Way too low.

NINs also get the stun katanas (Mamushito?), which can be rather useful in some situations.

And yeah, somehow forgot about Harpe/P.Harpe. Blegh...

In regards to 16att 5acc vs a stronger, +3% critical weapon...I honestly don't know. I mean people have said Juggernaut's 30att doesn't help them but I've seen it make worlds of difference, personally, so I don't see something like 16att 5acc being all that much different. Guess we'll just hafto wait and see, though.

It's not just the critical rate, it's the weapon damage, which is one of the single most important things to take in to consideration, especially when the gap between other options is 6-7 Damage.

On Juggernaut vs. Retributor, Retributor is garbage. It's Damage is exactly the same, and it's Delay is higher. And Juggernauts additional bonuses apply to both weapons as opposed to just itself.

Perdu Bow is a shortbow, not worth using when it has barely 3/4 the damage (when factoring in arrows) of the good long bows that have similar racc/ratt bonuses, especially when you have a large chunk of your damage coming from WS, and a JA like barrage.

Nin is at the bottom of the accuracy pile for melee, lumped down there with bst, just a step above pup. A perdu katana would be damn sexy, but wouldn't be on the same scale as perdu hanger, maneater, or blau in relation to the other available weapons.

scythe one is junk to me

Tredecim Scythe ftw

I'm honestly confused...NIN is at the bottom with acc, even though they get (Noritsune? the 10acc one...) Kote, Haidate, Shura/Relic/SH/Haub/Pahluwan Khazagand? Just because NIN chooses to wear a haste hat or gloves doesn't mean they lack acc gear, and certainly you're not referring to them being unable to get the [extremely] meager 2acc given from Thick/Adaman Solerets .

Even if their acc is as low as you say, from what I've seen they lead in terms of DoT/WS alongside WAR, MNK and THF. DRK, SAM and RNG follow up but only if they sub THF and/or make use of JAs they have somewhat limited access to. BLU is so-so. I unfortunately can't say much about DRG, and BST+PUP are out of the question.

I've seen NINs pull off 1k+ Jins all the time. I hardly think they're in dire need of something to boost their power even moreso. But that's just my opinion. =/

Um, no. Tredecim only has +2 dmg over Perdu Sickle and it has a higher delay. Your "guaranteed" crit every 13 hits not only can miss, but it doesn't apply to weapon skills. I would trade -2 dmg for +14 atk and +5 acc (which DOES apply to wses unlike Tred's crit hidden ability) and a lower delay anytime. The only time I'd use Tred over Perdu is if I'm in Caedarva Mire where I can't guaranteed use my tp asap due to amnesia. But then again only morons xp there at 75 anyway so that's a moot point. With fully merited crits and scythe skill you'll crit enough to where the very slight increase to crits from Tred is negligble vs the consistant increases from Perdu. Plus it looks totally badass.

am I the only one that didnt think this was hilarious?

If you ever looked at jamal's character model in game he has the same elf male char model as they made that NPC into....

A- in skill and no accuracy bonus/agressor/focus/souleater/SA/TA/Zanshin. Pretty much every melee job can use the same amount of acc gear.

correct me if i was wrong

but isnt higher delay mean more TP per swing
so Tred is stll going to get faster tp then Perdu

Tredecim Scythe is TP Per Hit: 14.4% and Perdu Sickle TP Per Hit: 13.6%

i also hate how Perdu Sickle look ;p

Assuming you have any amount of haste on whatsoever, Perdu and Tred will hit 100% on the same # of swings.

i dont use any haste set up/gear

i just go for atk/acc

which is why its hilarious XD I read what was quoted I meant the opposite >_>

I assume your mage casts Haste on you? That's what I was referring to, most +haste gear isn't so hot for drks. If you aren't getting Haste casted on you then you'd hit 100% tp one swing faster with Tred, but then again your pt/alliance/whatever pretty much sucks if you aren't getting Haste or March.

Eh? Haste doesn't alter TP gain formula, and you get the same percentage of delay shaved off for both weapons, so how would that give Perdu the edge if Tredecim has it without?

It's like any sam will tell you, getting more TP/hit means nothing until it allows you to break that barrier where you hit 100 in one less swing.

14.3 is the point where you get to 100 in 6 swings plus a single hit ws.
14.2 for 6 swings and a 2 hit ws.
14 for 6 swings and a 3 hit ws.
13.9 for 6 swings and a 4 hit ws (guillotine).

Perdu with Rajas is 14.2, with brutal is 13.7, with both is 14.4.

I don't quite understand...if you go for att/acc gear, how could you NOT want Perdu over Tredecim?

Moreso...Perdu is better DoT and the extra att/acc could be incredibly useful for Guillotine as well...
