POL News: SMN Job Adjustment 10/3/06

To be fair, legs and shoes are great SMN AF, the perp- isn't good on the head and hands, and the perp-1 on the aussy gear is awesome. So I dunno about other SMN, but I will stick with Aussy hat and body, AF feet n legs and Carby Mitts/Evokers hands for now. Even with this buisness tweaked, I think this will remain the better set up. (for now.)

havent checked the stats on smn jse or af yet but elaborate please x.x

and why not swap carby mitts for the af hands

didnt mean to include relic gear since im no where near it

Austere hands, legs, and feet will become more useful now because of their summoning skill boosts... which AF doesn't have any of except the horn, and Austere hat is still probably better.

well, the SMN "JSE" Austere has more BP- on it, and Avatar Perp-.

Let's compare from the ground up. :)

Austere Sabots, Lv.50, Def:7, MP:10, VIT:-1 CHR-1, SMN skill:3, Enmity:-3
Vs
Evokers Pigaches, Lv.56, Def:10, MP+15, AGI+5 Enmity-2 Enhances Avatar Evasion

Some summoners do get the sabots to tide them over until they can use the sabots, for me, this was more an issue of gil, as the sabots cost alot at the time, and still do. For what I was doing which was healing, I felt that I could live with some other shoes for the time being.

Austere Slops, Lv.50, Def:19 Vit:-1 Int:2 Mnd:2 Chr:-1 Summoning magic skill:3
Vs
Evokers Spats, Lv.52, Def:25 Mp:15, Evasion:10, Enmity:-2, Enhances Avatar Accuracy

The Aussy slops don't really give anything special, so I would get myself some Frog Trousers from Fyuu in SSG, +20MP n some other stats, good for 50cap CoP junk, BCs or wearing until you get your AF, which to be fair, is a two level gap.

Evokers Spatts on the other hand has -2 enmity on the summoner, and enhances your avatars accuracy. Anyone who has used a physical bloodpact knows that avatar accuracy is patchy at best, when soloing with carby, you need that first hit to land or you will be taking damage.

Austere Robes: Lv.50, Def:29, CHR:-2 Blood pact ability Delay:-3, Avatar Perpetuation:-1
Vs
Evoker's Doublet, Lv.58, Def:35, MP:15, MND:3 Enmity-2 Avatar elemental resistance:20

Aussy robes win hands down here, BP delay-3 bumps that 60 down to 57, doesen't seem like much, but it makes ALOT of differance when actually in battle. Avatar Perp-1 bumps all the perp costs down 1mp/Tic, which let's the robes make Carby free again at 63 if you are a bit too hard up to pick up an Apollos staff or Vermy, I admit I do keep my doublet on me for wearing out n about because damn, it's pretty.

Austere Cuffs, Lv.50 Def:8, MP:15, CHR:-1 Summoning magic Skill:2
Vs
Evoker's Bracers, Lv.54, Def:11, MP+15 Vit+4,, Occasionaly converts damage taken of avatar element to MP, Avatar Enmity-2

I personally kept my carby mitts on, sometimes using bracers, only thing about the bracers was the enmity-2 again, when the avatar doesen't have hate, it is you getting slapped about. :( Aussy Cuffs are a bit pricey I found, so I left them and stuck with my trusty mittanz.

Austere Hat Lv.50, Def:13 Mp:8 CHR-1, BP ability delay-2 summoning magic skill:2
Vs
Evoker's Horn, Lv.60, Def:15, MP:20, INT:3 SMN skill:5, Avatar Enmity:-3

Needless to say, the Evokers Horn is not so swish, Avatar Enmity-3 which we have discussed, yet doesen't offer a whole lot else. and it looks silly! Meanwhile the Austere Hat has BP delay-2, making your BP delay total -5 with the robes, 55 sec recast on your BPs is damn nice, although I find myself wearing a hairpin alot of the time for the MP boost while healing.

So this is the main comparisson between Austere gear and AF. :) A mixture of the two works out best.

Wondering what they mean by that...does that mean up to 180 seconds more than current set durations, or are Aerial Armor/Earthen Ward getting nerfed to a 3-minute timer max?
The length of the duration increased varies depending on which Blood Pact is used, but will not exceed 180 seconds.
It sounds to me like it's an additional amount of time from current lengths, up to 3 extra minutes. For Blinkga and Stoneskinga that's not anything worth mentioning, if they're up 15 minutes (or whatever their duration is) and wear on their own, an extra 3 minutes isn't going to really matter, because you're not getting hit. What it does matter for is the 10 second long Hastega, and Fenrir acc/eva buffs. Especially the hastega makes Smn as a viable brd replacement in roaming merit parties.

appreciate it moriki rate up

Moriki, you missed the BP delay -1 on the Austere Cuffs. I admit I didnt buy a pair when I first hit 50 cos of the prohibitive price, but I saved up, bought the mats and had em crafted for a lot less than the AH price when I was about 60, simply because they were better than AF hands.

I finally sold em when I got relic hands though, as relic hands rock :)

note: +mp gear (while -avatar perp and +summoning skill is desirable as well) is going to be very important with how quick you can run out of mp..

macro swaps win

what macro swaps do you reccommend neo and for what?

ie swap smn skill gear for buffs and attacks, a swap for perp gear and a swap for mp+ gear for main healing

along those lines right? I only know so little about smn now with this update

a question of mine that has made me wonder, lets say your smn skill is capped would any smn skill + gear enhance it further, I could be wrong but the update seems to infer that you get an enhanced effect until you reach your cap for that lv.

Either way something about this update for smn seems "hidden" as in there is some sort of catch, cant remember all of what I was going to say

i macro swap mp gear. i do it less now that i got yyr, but to give you an idea:

full mp i would use royal cloak(verm cloak hq, for refresh), fenrirs torque, zenith mitts and zenith slacks -- when i bp- i would macro in austere robe, penance (austere hq) hat, sacrifice torque, evokers bracers, and evokers spats. after bp, i would go back to my mp setup.

with yyr now all i macro in is evokers bracers, evokers spats, and sacrifice torque.

i imagine once smn skill means something, that you can macro in those pieces as well to effect those buffs.

/sigh, and I was really getting happy with only having to bring around full set of staves and a few BP peices for my SMN. Looks like its time for some more manneqins, or perhaps time for another ML update?

You got it backward. The bonus comes from exceeding the cap at the current level.

let the bandwagonner summoners roll in!

my summoning magic is right under cap, like 230/249 without gear. i cant wait to take a few days before this update kicks in to get the full potential of my aussie gear.i still suggest taking the time to cap it instead of worrying what gear will amp your stats. im sure there will be a better improvement overall rather than keeping the stat gimp. my only gripe is that they took too long to initiate this crap since im 75 already and wont enjoy this adjustment unless im doing merits or dynamis. hahaha all you new up and coming summoners just be ready to main heal !! /white mage /no thanks / thanks for the offer, but ill have to pass. lolzors.

with our smn mp pool, i think they just need to give us more clear minds. I mean, we are "masters of our mp pool" b/c we have a 1 tic refresh? wtf are paladins then?

lolPLD has same job trait we do now :( it stripped our uniqueness on this.. SE should give it back, i agree. i wrote about this on my blog today on my post.

i couldnt agree more neo.
