The next FINAL FANTASY XI version update is scheduled to take place in early March.

We are currently working on implementing the long-awaited chocobo racing system, as well as new missions, quests, monsters, Assault areas, and more! Along with various system additions and improvements, we will also be raising the maximum level of the beastman armies in Besieged.

Choco Racing! And "system improvements"... those sound intriguing.

someone told me they were adding Relic for the new jobs this update? can anyone validate or falsify that?
 
hopefuly inthis version update they will make it work with Vista too ^^

Y helo thar unsubstantiated rumor. This is the first thing that has been said by SE about the next patch.

Yay! New ranks I hope, I'm ready to go past SM as soon as they're added, and I've been waiting for new stuff. They have to update RDM and BLM too... those jobs haven't gotten anything yet!

I've been wondering when this version update was going to come, it'll be the first one for the year! And chocobo racing, yay!

Glad it's not going to happen when I'm gone for a week though.
 
They better include Tier 2 Merits for the 3 new jobs. SE is taking their sweet time with something so simple...
 
If they add new ranks they need to make them worth actually doing. The only thing I could see making them worthwhile is putting some nice rare/ex junk from the ??? items. I'd like to see any new ranks allow alliance and be difficult.

They mentioned a new wayto obtain abjs was in the works 6 months or so ago, maybe a "??? abj body" as a rare drop off one of them.

I don't know what they would call the new ranks, the current rank system is a bastardization of US Army and Marine rank structure, skipping a few ranks between Sergeant and Sgt Major. Sgt Major is the highest enlisted rank for both.
