I have been getting this error all afternoon and this evening. I get through too the update a few times and I think I am finally getting somewhere and then it stalls. Then I hit cancel and try again. This is the worst update I have been through yet. Looks like I may not be playing for awhile.

Just downloaded the patch, finally. You all may want too try again.

There are hundreds of people trying to get to the same data source all at once. Everyone cannot access these files at the same time. This causes a "bottle neck" where the flow of information, drops dramaticly or even stops completely, until some of the congestion is cleared up. So having a better computer or a faster internet connection won't help out one bit, if the traffic is not moving.
Let me give you an example, that you may be more familliar with...
You know when you and your "special" classmates get out of school and you all go running outside? You get to the door and everyone is trying to get through it at the same time. No matter how hard you try, or how fast you run, only one or two can pass while the rest of you are bumping into each other and the walls nearby. That is like the "Version checking process" that POL has set up.
Alas! You make it outside and there goes your little yellow school bus... So all of you charge to it. Everyone is already salivating over the taste of window (you know you CAN'T WAIT for that after school "lick" of glass). You finally make it to the short bus and find yourself running into the side of it, repeatedly and repeatedly... and repeatedly. BUT you are getting closer to the opening so you keep on! This is much like POL's "Downloading Files" screen.
You finally make it onto the bus! Now, everyone is running towards the window seats. Petey made it to his seat. Joey grabs the next one and so on and so on until there is but one seat left... seat number 6 "A.K.A. 0.Dat". Now, the rest of you are all rushing to get seat 6 but you lose. Roofie got it and guess what? You have to start all over again. So, it's back to your classroom. Here is the POL "File download/installation" portion, where I happen to be stuck at.
By the way... Thank you Square-Enix, for making me feel "special". :roll:

I just want to add that its 4/21/2005 and I still cant get the update downloaded correctly. I mean seriously the next day and these people still cant provide quality customer service (not like SE can do that anyways with their eye candy "GM's") which severly bothers me since we are paying monthly fees for this and they only send out a notice about their realization of the problem. I dont know but it might be better if they can que people and send them the update automatically. Yesterday when I was in the chat rooms someone told me that there were only 630 players on the server actually in the game.... WHAT!?!? This recent event has struck the wrong chord with me... Anyways hope to see you in the game
