Yeah...

Granted, we don't know what happened before then, but I find it to be a pretty shitty thing to do.

And I'm sorry about the weird Finnish language, I got it linked to me on another forum.

Hmmm, I'd still say its an gross overreaction on the part of the police officer, I mean, whats the worst a snowball can do to you anyways?

This guy doesn't deserve a badge. I hope they do something about him.

Blind someone?

In all seriousness it could. Anyway.

I'm not sure what to really think about this. I wonder if anything DID happen to trigger this reaction.

The officer that showed up first wasn't sure how to defuse the situation himself it seemed.

what the fuck is wrong with that crowd? was it national asstard day or something

Yeah they definitely weren't the smartest bunch. But they looked like kids, and kids are generally asstards.

And snowballs can do some damage. Although it's not very common. I have a pretty funny story, a long time ago a friend, my brother, and I we're outside when the sun had just started setting. And we were having a snowball fight. My friend was up in the woods and I couldn't see him, but could hear him making noise. So I huck a snowball straight towards the noise. Whacks the kid right in his glasses.. We just heard this moan and then crying lol, I sound like an awful person to laugh at that. But it was kinda funny >.> Cause I couldn't even see him. But yeah on topic it can do some damage hitting em in certain places. I didn't make him go blind or anything XD

Another police officer taking advantage of their power. Big surprise.

yeah he definitely had a lot of power in that situation, being harassed by like 30 people. stupid for drawing his gun which he obviously wouldn't use, but the crowd was also giant mass of douche

Well, it was in the newspaper today in Sweden. Apparently, earlier that day a police car had been stuck in the snow, and that crowd helped him out of it. Later, they had "accidentally" thrown a snowball on a passing car, which happened to be a disguised police car. Said police officer then jumped out of the car and drew his gun on them.

This happened here so it's been in the news for the past few days. The snowball fight in question was IIRC in and around Dupont Circle in D.C. Here's part of the story, where the police react to the reports of the cop drawing his gun.

Sequence of events seemed to be:

--Snowball fight raging for hours in D.C. during the blizzard
--Plainclothes cop shows up in a Hummer
--Hummer gets hit by snowballs, cop gets very pissed
--Cop gets out, yells at snowball fighters, brandishes a gun at the snowball fighters (he openly admits to drawing a gun in a video because he/his car got hit by snowballs)
--Uniformed cop shows up and tries to calm the crowd who are asking for the plainclothes to give his badge number, etc.
--Plainclothes cop tries to walk away, gets hit by a snowball, and goes after the guy he thought did it and drags him off, yelling at him
--Videos and pictures make their way onto the Interwebs

If anyone saw the videos, the plainclothes cop was an angry African-American guy who seemed VERY upset the entire time. The article mentions though that the cop was off-duty and drew his gun because his Hummer was hit and really for no other reason.

All the speculation seems a bit far fetched. I can imagine getting pissed if someone threw a snowball at my new car. But not blood pressure soaring angry.

Idk. I have a feeling something more occurred and it was missed.

With that many people and distraction everywhere it would be easy to have missed someone who intentionally threw a snowball at that man.

/shrugs, he should have known better than to have drew his weapon. And I thought he was just unmarked, not off duty.

But that crowd is pretty fucking stunned if they think having a snowball war in the middle of a city intersection is a good idea.

It's just a messed up situation, which obviously the kids kept antagonizing him. Hopefully the next generation wont be such a letdown.

Haha good, they did something about it. I hope he feels like a moron.

he should've just started tazing people instead.

I wouldn't have felt sorry for any of the idiots throwing snowballs if they got tazed.

but yeah drawing a gun is pretty stupid, just shows the cop didn't know wtf he was doing and is prob not going to have the best reaction if the shit ever really hit the fan.

I agree, tazing someone would've been a LOT more acceptable than brandishing a gun. "You don't bring a gun to a snowball fight!" The off-duty cop (or detective?) is pulling desk duty now, his gun's been taken away so there's that at least. Frankly, he shouldnt've been driving in the first place.. DC and MD had to call a state of emergency to authorize the use of the National Guard for the sole purpose of keeping the roads clear.

it's always funny to see how snow impacts the U.S.State of Emergency for snow is so lolz to a canadian

Was the car moving when it got hit? It still doesn't excuse the gun thing but I could see an individual getting very pissed if they were driving and the snowballs smacked the windshield out of nowhere while driving. The heart attack/surprise alone would be irritating and if the wipers weren't on they would stand a chance at crashing if they suddenly lost visibility like that.(flinching+ low visibility in a 2 ton death machine=?)

It was probably moving slowly (the roads still had snow on them), but the intersection this took place was mobbed with people throwing snowballs, so it shouldn't have been a shock.
