Parser doesn't interface with FFXI. Shit, you can run it on a completely different PC than the one playing FFXI.
it has to or else it would not be able to read your data.

Then you would get 40,000 different answers.

The only way to answer your question is through a Parser.
that when law of average come in handy. If more say hey it proc pretty good then it prob does. While you know the exact rate? No, but you get a good figure if you want try it out for yourself or not.

that's a completely worthless system. You could have a very lucky fight and get 60% crits, that doesn't mean your actual crit rate is 60%; same goes for if you have an unlucky fight and get 0 crits. The only way to make any kind of judgment would be to calculate the number of crits against the number of non-crits.

atleast it be legal

Yeah, it'd be legal but retarded to just guess what your crit rate is. If you want any useful information, you'd have to use a parser.

How about this: "Trick staff has crit rate +20%, I didn't parse it because according to hellstorm that's cheating, but trust me it boosted my crit rate by a ton!!!!!"

Look, either you're willing to take people on faith or you're willing to accept hard data on it. That's your call, but don't ask a question and get pissed because someone gave you the right answer.

It simply interprets data thats on your hard drive. It sends nothing back, asks the program to do nothing, recives no input from the program. It reads data extruded by the program and compiles it into usefull information.

Its level of interaction is no higher than that of your computer monitor.

Actually, I'd say it's even less than that of your computer monitor, since the monitor is receiving the data directly from the game while the parser is not.

By their definition, so is Winamp. I can't tolerate the game music for long, so I use my own. This is obviously a personal benefit.

Don't start with the useless over-the-edge comparisons like you did in the last thread.

Winamp is allowed by SE, and so is voice-over-ip programs, as long as you don't use windower while using them.

Parser is just like reading .dat's. It doesn't really affect you to the same extent that flee hacks etc. do, but it DOES read game data. It opens these files on my computer:

C:\Program\PlayOnlineUS\SquareEnix\FINAL FANTASY XI\TEMP\0.log through C:\Program\PlayOnlineUS\SquareEnix\FINAL FANTASY XI\TEMP\19.log

Last I checked, those were game files. So stop saying it doesn't read anything from the game.

While yes, it can be used over the network, it still opens game-files, which SE have stated is not allowed. You might not consider it cheating, SE do. Last I checked, this was a game produced by SE, so their word is law.

No, it doesn't sent anything to the game, and the game doesn't directly send info to the parser. But it does read files saved by the program, and thus, it indirecly obtains information from the game.

The following is prohibited: analyzing game data

Still just as against the ToS as windower is, cheaters.
Congrats on pointing out the obvious which everyone already knows and never disputed in the first place. What's your next insight, the color of the sky?

Play with your eyes closed. Anything else is an analysis of game data.

Wrong. That's info that SE allows you to see.

They don't allow you to read the game files unless they show them to you yourself, like in-game.

Seriously, stop making so stupid comparisons.

The point is you don't need the parser to do what it does if you've got enough mathematical skill to pull it off in combat. Some of us do, deal with it. The simple fact is the parser puts the rest of you on the level. SE may call it a cheat but it's in the eyes of the player wether it crosses that moral line. If you go asking a question about gear you CAN NOT get pissed because someone gave you the right answer, which is what this conversation is all about. Hellstorm got irked because he got the right answers when what he wanted was a 20 page thread full of people conjecturing and blowing smoke up his ass.

Seriously, learn to fucking read a thread.

moral != right.
A cheat can be moral
a cheat can be immoral
While yes, parser doesn't cross the moral line, that doesn't make it "allowed".

Like I've said before, the reason parser is considered "not bad", is because a lot of people use it. In order to make themselves feel good, they say it's "not a bad cheat", and "doesn't cross the moral line". Thus, they justify the use of it by saying it's not moral.

Sadly, people seem to think that because something isn't immoral, it's not against the rules. Whatever you say, whatever arguments you use to justify it, parser is a cheat. Wheither (sp?) it's moral or not doesn't matter.

Seriously, learn to fucking use an argument that matters.

By the same token in the literal sense so is having enough mental accuity to put it together for yourself. By the same token in the literal sense all the crap i listed earlier is a cheat by the same standard. websites, SC charts, etc etc. Cheat cheat cheat cheat cheat, where do you draw the line and why?

It's not as black and white as most of you retards would love to believe and most of you wouldn't be able to survive the game without the resources available outside the game. Which was hell's argument, based mostly on ps2 users. If you have the capabilities to do research over someone else who cannot you have an unfair advantage; hence you are cheating.

It's a grey area, at worst. First of all, you can't call it a cheat. It's not. It's a 3rd party program that arguably violates SE's terms of service. That doesn't necessarily mean "cheat". Windower is the same.

Now, my question to you, if I wrote OCR software to review a recorded EXP session from a video (quite difficult, but it certainly would be possible) and perform the same actions as a parser, is that cheating by your definition? The program is in no way interacting with FFXI or its files, yet it is reviewing the same log that the parser would be. If so, how is this different, aside from the amount of effort involved to acheive the same result out of game?

Is this going to be another good thread that will get put in Flameboard now?
Please if you want to argue go there or just PM each other. I would appreciate it very much.

Thank you

Learn the difference between an argument/debate and flaming material. If this is all it takes to get you rattled, get a helmet.
