By the same token in the literal sense so is having enough mental accuity to put it together for yourself. By the same token in the literal sense all the crap i listed earlier is a cheat by the same standard. websites, SC charts, etc etc. Cheat cheat cheat cheat cheat, where do you draw the line and why?

It's not as black and white as most of you retards would love to believe and most of you wouldn't be able to survive the game without the resources available outside the game. Which was hell's argument, based mostly on ps2 users. If you have the capabilities to do research over someone else who cannot you have an unfair advantage; hence you are cheating.

No, because the info listed on other websites is not taken by looking through the .dat's. It's from people who do the quests themselves. Those doesn't interact with game files in any way.

It's a grey area, at worst. First of all, you can't call it a cheat. It's not. It's a 3rd party program that arguably violates SE's terms of service. That doesn't necessarily mean "cheat". Windower is the same.

Now, my question to you, if I wrote OCR software to review a recorded EXP session from a video (quite difficult, but it certainly would be possible) and perform the same actions as a parser, is that cheating by your definition? The program is in no way interacting with FFXI or its files, yet it is reviewing the same log that the parser would be. If so, how is this different, aside from the amount of effort involved to acheive the same result out of game?
Yes, because using a video that records the game is against the ToS according to SE. So yes, that would be cheating.

Learn the difference between an argument/debate and flaming material. If this is all it takes to get you rattled, get a helmet.

Once again you fail horribly at delivering.

Anyway, if you want to keep arguing about this, start another thread. I won't respond to this one anymore.

you're excused, welcome to the internet.

Hmmm, I smell another POL news thread that will be moved to the Flameboard.

Lets hope so. I have all these cans of whoop-ass collecting dust in the back room.

Actually most of the information provided is by datamining the game at every patch to provide immediate content upgrades to the sites. The nuances of quests and whatnot are then filled in by gamers. Fail.

All of the weapon/equipment data on Somepage at least is 100% datamined, third party tools right there. Same with Zam even before IGE bought them.

Apparently all roads do not lead to Rome, but rather the Flameboard. XD

Only takes one bad apple falling on a resolved topic .... it would seem.

I'm at home, in a comfortable chair. Your entertainment value is irrelevant.

Everyone, I have an announcement to make. Notepad is a hack.

That is all.

Still just as against the ToS as windower is, cheaters.

Game data wouldn't be plain chat in an easy to open temporary text file. Game data would be the packets sent between your computer and the server. Unless you really want to count reading your chatlog as analyzing game data, otherwise you'd be best off removing your eyes so you aren't caught cheating. Because, well, thats all there is in the file, everything you've already seen in your chat window. Nothing more, nothing less.
