I think some of you are confused.
To those who are new, or read the flameboard infrequently, this isn't about Keits calling me retarded, this happened before and this is the flameboard after all where anyone is entitled to namecalling. For reference also see: Sculli is retarded.
This is about post count bumping.
There are a couple issues about post count bumping. It does take up resources, which are limited. The resource issue is currently not a problem because the current hosting plan does allow for 100 GB traffic, and we are still way under that.
The other issue relating to post count bumping is that it creates noise for users who are actually interested in a thread. Effectivly a small number of users fills up a thread with "+1" posts, making it not worth the time of those who actually want to read or contribute to the thread to sift through all the "+1" for actual content.
The Keits saw that I was in support of Nyahoho's remark that the whole "+1" thing is getting old, and he knowingly choose to publicly demonstrate that he doesn't give a shit.
To some his post may have been incredibly funny, to me it was the wrong thing to spost at the wrong time, and while I extremely rarely excercise admin powers, I feel that this particular case called for it.
Keits account has been temporarily set to 'inactive', call it ban if you like (though a ban would have been to delete the user, add it to the "not allowed username"-list, and actually ban an IP, or IP range), the result is the same, he can't view or post (unless he's using Naff's account).
Compared to other message boards QCDN has very few rules (read for yourself: Guidelines for Forum Use Within, and most all of them are not strictly enforced.
Perhaps that is a mistake, maybe things would be a bit more orderly if the mods and myself would rigorously enforce the rules on a daily basis. I do believe some basic rules are necessary, and I do believe that as long as not sticking to the rules 100% all the time doesn't disrupt the board, it is not necessary to be uptight about it.
When things do get out of hand, as I believe post count bumping did, action is necessary. Action was taken, and you see the results. This board has been around since April 3rd 2004, we have over 800 registered users, and over 22,000 posts to date, and now we have a temoprarily banned user. From a statistics point of view this is an outstanding accomplishment.
Be that as it may, The Keits will be welcome to return to QCDN in the near future, no hard feelings.
