I find a system such as HNMLS.com to be somewhat convenient.

http://www.hnmls.com/modules.php?name=auction

The seller can post item and price, then buyers can search for what they want and make offers. Sort of like an aggregate bazaar. Additionally, it would be nice if anyone can see what bids were made and by whom.

Doesn't really fit with the phpbb style per se, and certainly a non-trivial revamp.

I think read-only is too limited. If the sales are less transparent it can lead to fakery. Such posts as "WTS > X item 32.5m" "Sold!!" to some anonymous buyer are kinda irritating. Maybe that wouldn't be a problem but I've seen it in other MMORPGs.

An auction house is traditionally where people 'bid' on items, no?
The name was chosen to make it easier for the users to associate the intended use of this forum with the dealings in-game.

Actual bidding in a forum like this is not practical.
I mean look at some of the current posts. Nothing would stop someone from bidding 50,000M on an item and then just say "oh, I was just kidding".

@gir
I am not able to access the hnmls auction house without to register, and I really don't feel like registering, but I have an idea what it is they are using (php auction, which is a module for phpbb). There is currently no auction or classifieds module for vBulletin 3.5.x, though a few people are working on one.

I think for the time being I may try a read-only unless you are the original poster. See how it goes, and hope that an auction module will be released soo.

I think a problem that should be addressed is that lately everyone and their mother has been posting something up and then saying "PM/email me for bids." Its really fucking annoying, they should follow the rule about posting what they want to buy/sell for -_-

Edit: Patent Pending >.>;

LoL, this post was up long enough for anyone that wanted to copy and paste to do so. I may look into this Sculli.

Complex, but it allows for no post spam on the main page. If you wanted to add the functionality, posts could be inside the item listing itself - cause of Kat's "kudos" and all that goodly stuff =)
If you could pull the development of this off you could make some good money off of marketing it. There is currently no functional auction system for vBulletin 3.5.x, the only thing that comes somewhat close is Photopost Classifieds which retails for US$129.

Lots and lots of vBulletin admins are begging for an auction system on vbulletin.com and vbulletin.org, and are more than willing to pay for one if they could only get it.

What exactly stops anyone from doing that now? Saying Oh I will buy that Item that you posted for 1mil and just never pay for it even though it is a set price?

Hmm... I guess a read-only post would be ok... but the author should be able to edit the post as needed...

Only other problem I see is what was said before... no bumps.. but if you have them time out and delete on a system lvl.. they could just repost it... but it may anger some people if they have to repost it over and over and over... if it is an item that is high $ and people don't have that money.. or something that just sells slowly..

I think the best bet is to have a Mod for this section... I mean it doesn't get that much traffic.. that someone couldn't check it once or twice a day and make sure all is well... I usually have some time during the day at work... I would be more than happy to do this for you...
