It's okay those Volunteer Fire Fighters didn't put out the fire consuming my house, they're just volunteer's after all, and are in no way getting paid!

Because using RL situations regarding people who attempt to save others lives is in all ways similar to running a forum... Come again?

It's okay the neighborhood watch didn't stop the guy breaking in to my house, they're just volunteer's after all!

Better, poodle?

And theres a single mod staff entity, which should.. GASP.. make up a criteria.
Crime and punishment is not black and white. It is very subjective. It is completely unrealistic to expect everything to be consistent all the time. Not only are the people who evaluate the situations and hand out punishment different people, the offenders are different people as well, with different motivations and records of offense.
Bottom line is you don't know the exact circumstance regarding the infractions of others, so you have no business saying that they should have been handled in the same manner or a different manner than yours.

I dunno, aside from Peregrine being banned, I haven't seen the mods do anything for us, just the people who think they're being picked on for the sake of being picked on, such as Hellstorm or Pchan. Those two, among others, are the root problems. Ofcourse I'm going to be fucking unappreciative if nothing happens to fix the real issues at hand.

Just because Pchan hasn’t been banned doesn’t mean that the mod staff isn’t doing anything. Take some time to review the support and feedback forum. There are at least 5 things that have been done this month to benefit the community. From creating a sports forum to implementing a feature that allows you to ignore Hellstorm or even Miros and Arc, those are things that were done to help us. I’m sorry you want to overlook anything and everything that has been done because its not the one thing you think needs to be done. If you really want them to fix the issues at hand, report the posts. Arc called attention to the fact that, while there were a ton of people bitching in the ban Pchan thread, there were very few reported posts. If you can’t utilize the systems that are in place to help get him banned, then you have no business crying because he isn’t.

In addition, just because someone volunteers to do something, that does not mean they are free from any sort of scrutiny. You may disagree with what is being said, but anyone with the notion that someone is unaccountable to anyone just because they're doing something for free, get that nonsense out of your head.
Never did I say they should be free of scrutiny. However, incessant pissing and moaning about the way things are with no real, plausible suggestions for fixing things is getting a little out of control. And that is most of what goes on. If you don’t like the way something is going, fine. Shoot ‘em a PM or make a thread about it. You should be sure to include the issue, supporting evidence to establish the impact of said issue, your proposed solution and anticipated outcome, and it would really be going above and beyond to offer something you could do yourself to help. Its just easier, I guess, to piss and moan about the issue and then piss and moan some more when you don't get your way.

Multiple requests and threads have been made regarding certain issues, and they were pretty much unheeded. Many members will continue to piss and moan simply because it's less effort and, with the way things have been going, more or less the same end result. =P

It's okay the neighborhood watch didn't stop the guy breaking in to my house, they're just volunteer's after all!

Still way too extreme.

More like:

It's okay the neighborhood watch didn't stop that guy from littering in my yard, they're just volunteer's after all.

It's okay the neighborhood watch didn't make that guy pick up the mess his dog left behind, they're just volunteer's after all.

This thread is still fucking stupid. I love how you people think you're calling the moderators out for handing out infractions of varying severity, complaining about things that happen on the board, and then bitch more when you don't get your way (whatever that way may be, because often times it's just as vague as the problem).

As for telling us to shut up when we say "don't like it; leave": you're forgetting a key element.

This isn't a fucking democracy. I'm amazed at and daily applaud the patience the Modmin team shows with these irritatingly frequent nitpicks about their methods. The fact is that they're not like a neighborhood watch, or a volunteer fire department, or a rent-a-cop, or any other moronic analogy you wish to make comparing them to some real-life counterpart. They are selected from the site's owner and entrusted with the upkeep of the site.

In before "Reeve doesn't give a shit about his own site": He entrusted Miros with the upkeep of this site, and Miros et. al. are doing a goddamn fine job of it. The site isn't in a shambles, new users sign up daily, we have had minimal problems with sockpuppets and when we do, they're dealt with swiftly.

The rest, as Psylentcuda and Mr. T would say, is just jibba-jabba.

Also keep in mind, when people were moaning about hellstorm, and then about how they couldn't ignore him because of his status, guess what? They changed it so you could ignore him now. But they don't do anything to help out you guys, do they? Everyone is against you, it's a conspiracy, hide your money in a pillowcase under your mattress! Waaaah waaaah waaaah... it's all the same.

Since this is in the flameboard I may as well do it here. I hate to change the topic but I am constantly hearing about the "problem" on the boards. That problem being Pchan, Jyak, or Hellstrom. Lots of people want them banned that much I know. But why? I have not seen many reported posts come through with legitimate reasons for them to have punishment. The main one I can see is the reputation deal...which we make a viable solution for.

I'm not trying to call anybody out here, I am looking for an intelligent and well thought response. Something other then "Ban him cause he's a problem"...

Yeah... good luck with that. Tell me how it goes.

I honestly think that the these people want hellstorm and company banned so they can do the "lulz I got him banned I rule" epeen thing. I can see no other explaination being viable, even though I doubt very much they'd admit it. As I said a long time ago concerning the issue, it's not difficult to see who is a moron around here, and the excuse that "It's for the benefit of new people" is bullshit.

Since I guess you forgot, Pchan had an appropriate thread recently, with plenty of valid reasons why he should have been banned five times over. Hellstorm is in a similar boat. Jyakotsu shouldn't be here due to yinyang robe alone.

The fact of the matter is, especially in the case of Pchan and Hellstorm, these people are fucking morons, and instead of discouraging it, you say "Oh darn, people are picking on you." chosing to blame and take things away from the community as a whole, rather than maybe offending the rather small number of people acting like idiots. It honestly seems like you think it would be a better idea to punish the 50 people who are sick of their shit, rather than one person just because they didn't call anyone a bad name.

These things are flamebait. They don't look like it just from the post itself, but the constant stream of hypocrisy and stupid definitely is. It's hard to report any particular post, because they all seem innocent enough taken on their own.

http://www.qcdn.org/ffxi/showthread.php?t=44700
For pchan in particular, how's this entire thread, for starters? The entire thread goes to shit less than 20 posts in just because he can't take a minor correction. Hell, Uzor does this shit too a lot, usually when he's standing up for his retard butt buddies, but at least he can make an intelligent post once in awhile. Completely ignoring known facts and shitting out one's own version of the truth under the guise of an "opinion"...

Anyway, I know this hasn't been the most concise post I've ever made, since it's difficult to put into words, but that difficulty is likely the same reason people have a hard time reporting their posts. From a strict "lolrules" view, they're completely innocent posts. Meanwhile, to practically everyone involved in the conversation, they're nothing less than flamebait in the most accurate sense of the word.

Stupidity and hypocrisy in and of themselves should be punished. Never rewarded.

Please elaborate on this.

Please elaborate on this.
I just did. It's not that any one post breaks a written rule that we have here. It's that every post contains a level of stupidity, ignorance of actual facts, and replacement of fact with opinion. Consistantly. Every discussion becomes, for pchan, proving that, among other things, PUP is godly, no matter what. Any time these things are mentioned. This isn't done with facts, either. It's done with "because I said so". This effectively takes away, from everyone, the possibility for any sort of intelligent discussion.

I also like how you didn't need me to elaborate on the fact that these people are morons.

If the posts aren't breaking rules, I don't see how we can effectively campaign to ban the poster. Maybe the posts are inaccurate or annoying, but you cannot hold people accountable to rules that don't exist.

If a change needs to be made in the current rule set, ok. Let's approach the issue that way instead of "BAN HIM! HE IS DUMB AND ANNOYS ME!"

The if and how of them being morons isn't the real issue for me, so no, I don't need you to elaborate on it.

Flamebait is against the rules, or at least it would appear to be, as I and many others have received infractions for it.

Being stupid isn't infractionable, though.

Except that posting something stupid isn't the same as flamebaiting.

Posting something stupid:

"Hey guys, I tanked in this awesome exp party last night as WHM/WAR, we got around 3k/hr".

Flamebait:

"Any Warrior who uses a Ridill is out of their fucking mind, should be shot in the street, and have their Ridill taken away from them and given to a Thief who can actually make good use of it. Also I hear Warriors in general like it up the butt."

Another example:

Stupidity:

"I got hacked D: Why, no, I didn't activate my firewall, disable remote Javascript calls or update my anti-virus software, why do you ask?"

Flamebait:

"I hope you get hacked, you motherfucking retard."
