If I were elected President, it would be.

Well Praise Deity of your choice that's not the case then, as our prison system is already overcrowded >.>

Flamebait is against the rules, or at least it would appear to be, as I and many others have received infractions for it.

Flamebait is against the rules. You stated the offending posts didn't break any rules. So are you classifying the posts as flamebait because they annoy you?

Definitions said:
Flamebait
1 - A message deliberately crafted in order to provoke an angry flame as a response.
2 - A posting on a bulletin board or other public forum that is intended to elicit the extremely strong responses.
3 - Flamebait is a message posted to a public Internet discussion group, such as a forum, newsgroup or mailing list, with the intent of provoking an angry response (a "flame") or argument over a topic the troll often has no real interest in.

I don't believe any of Pchan's posts are designed to provoke an angry response. He just legitimately believes the things he does and is vocal about his beliefs. Maybe they're wrong. Either way, I don't believe he's searching for threads just so he can post things he knows people will be outraged about to bait them into flaming so they will get in trouble.

Well, if people can get away with things like this just for being idiots, then stupid needs to be worked into being a punishable offense. Because one thing is for sure: it's definitely offensive.

So who is going to define exactly what is and is not stupid?

fuck double-posting, but I have to spread rep around before giving to Garvin again, so I'll say this much:

i might not agree with your solution to the matter, but i will agree entirely that stupidity is offensive.

That's a good question, and a difficult one to answer. In most cases, I'm sure it should be safe to eyeball things, especially when they've reached the point of people like pchan and hellstorm.

What I'm getting at here is that, for something to be punishable, there has to be specific and measurable offenses. If we have no system in place for measurement, there can be no punishment. Because stupidity is so subjective, I don't see how we could implement any sort of fair and unbiased measurement.

Why was Peregrine banned?

His self rightous dribble and lack of any real friends on the boards made it abundantly clear that the community had had enough of Peregrine.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Why was Peregrine banned?
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

You're not including the first part of the post concerning Pere's ban.

For flamebaiting for no particular reason, lying about his choices on the boards, calling out old & new mods to just flamebait.

Why was Peregrine banned?

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

THE PLOT THICKENS!!!!!!!!

Who banned him? How long ago was he banned?

I said it before, and will again:

The times, they have a'changed. So too, has the staff.

His "flamebaits" were rather similar to the idiotic posts you guys have been discussing.

Only in the ingame threads. He also flamebaited the off-topic boards with his own brand of vindictiveness, if I recall correctly.

I fail to see why off-topic boards carry more weight on a FFXI forum.

The same way they handle anything else that's subjective around here. If, again, "lots of people" see a problem big enough to warrant banning, that's one problem right from the start. Plus what Tyrath said while I was typing this.

Whatever else Peregrine may have been, he was an attention whore IMO. He did stuff specifically to illicit a negative response in others. I don't believe that is the case with Pchan. Maybe if he starts running around calling everyone "Fanboy"...
