The same way they handle anything else that's subjective around here. If, again, "lots of people" see a problem big enough to warrant banning, that's one problem right from the start. Plus what Tyrath said while I was typing this.

That is nothing more than an extreme popularity contest IMO.

As are most rules and laws to begin with, and things like this forum's stance on the posting of cheats.

I fail to see why off-topic boards carry more weight on a FFXI forum.

The boards carry weight equally because they're all part of the same entity -- QCDN. If they don't carry any weight on an "ffxi" forum, then by that reasoning we should ditch half the board's content, including WoW/AoC/Wii/Off-Topic/RSI/Music/Movies/Sports/Anime.

Baiting anywhere is punishable. It's not just restricted to the FFXI sections afaik.

Really, I think Linhjah's right. If pchan or hellstorm were going around instigating board shit-slinging fights by calling folks names, questioning sexuality or mental capacity (for real, not just saying "that's retarded"), or instantly claiming that they are better than everyone else for X reason (a la Vang) or the like, then yeah -- get rid of them.

But they're not. They have odd methods to their madness, and they stand firm in what they believe, be it correct, skewed, or blatantly wrong.

Pchan and Hellstorm are like 80-year-olds in that respect, I suppose O.o

You don't euthanize your great-grandfather simply because he still calls the Japanese "Japs" and doesn't trust them, and thinks that all of Germany is Nazi.

Peregrine was flamebaiting all over the boards, and doing things that are actually flamebaits. He was doing far more than making stupid posts and if you think that is all he was doing you are greatly fooling yourself.

Yes, uh, that was kind of my point. You were the one suggesting that because he did it in off topics it was worse or something.

I don't think I was? I simply added that he was flamebaiting in the Flameboard, Gen Discussion, Real Life Boards, anywhere he could get his hands in. I didn't say either of them was a greater offense than the other.

Only in the ingame threads. He also flamebaited the off-topic boards with his own brand of vindictiveness, if I recall correctly.

Idk, that makes me think you're trying to say that its not as bad if done in ingame threads...

Well, in that instance it would be a greater offense, if you actually believe that all he did in the ingame threads were just "stupid posts" on the same caliber as hellstorm or pchan.

I disagree with the most. Please provide more examples of existing rules you feel are based on popularity.

Just go down the list. There's precedent, of course, with rules that have existed far longer than this forum, but the rules as they exist are what they are because most people want them that way.

QCDN's stance on cheats is just an example of one of the rules we've altered based solely on popularity (cheats being forbidden, except ones that people like.) It wasn't intended to be the strict focus of my comment.

And months ago, when Hellstorm was told repeatedly no one wanted to hear about how good he believed red mage melee to be, but constantly brought it up in many different threads in several sub-forums.

But banning people based on how many people speak out sharing an opinion that said member is stupid is not in line with any of our current rules. I still don't see why you think it is.

Ironically, all people playing Puppetmaster should've been banned long ago for cheating, seeing as how Puppetmaster can only compete in damage by abusing a glitch that SE seems to ignore.

Can i just ask what that glitch is? i am going to be playing Pup soon

That's called spamming. I think that's against the rules...

Come on guys, you almost got it! ;(

No, I said I personally feel they're flamebait, intentional or not. Even if that's decided not to be the case, there's still exists a problem for some number of people. In that case, if there's nothing applicable to fix the problem, something new will need to be created. Banning stupidity was just a rough idea, that's obviously very subjective, but most of the decisions the mods make seem to be, so there's little difference.

This is what I'm getting at. On their own, these posters are breaking no rules. Their posts fall ever so slightly short of meeting any one criteria that would result in any sort of punishment. But what they lack in "quality" of offense, they make up easily in quantity. That's why it's so hard to pin something down exactly, despite the obvious fact that something is horribly wrong.

I'm pretty sure when you're saying things you know the community is going to get angry about, that's called trolling.
