Do you really care if you get an infraction?

I have a feeling this was posted somewhere else.
Oh well.

Okay, this has now become completely ridiculous.

In personal definition, trolling would be more like 'thread stalking' I guess you could say. Watching a topic and waiting and then replying. Good posters do it when an argument or discussion interests them enough and bad posters do it to.... I don't know, make themselves look more stupid.

Spamming, as defined by our rules, is 5-7 posts in a row of bullshit. That is something you can receive an infraction for. If you would like an example, look up anything WSM posts in.

Wasn't it most of you that are complaining the loudest a few months ago saying that the Administration/Moderation staff wasn't doing anything at all? However, now that they are, you're having a fit because they're not discriminating who they give infractions to by way of "This person is more popular than this other person, so we'll give them some leeway"?

Some responses here are more to the tune of "Yeah, I responded to an obvious bait because they insulted me", but that is also against the rules because you're basically fuelling the fire. Renegade justice doesn't work. It doesn't work in the real world and it doesn't work on messageboard social interaction either when there is a rule set that can handle these things when you use it properly. If someone baits you, why even honor it with a repsonse? Report the fucking post. If you're in the Flameboard, yeah, fire back all you want. That's a place where its been designated as acceptable. If you're in General Discussion > Endgame Discussion and you say 'Yeah well fuck you too, you're a douchebag that can't play his job'; guess what? You're doing it wrong. Report the damn post. That's why we have an option for it in the first place. Mods and Admins can't be everywhere at once and they sure as hell can't know exactly what you think is a flamebait unless you tell them. Don't respond with 'Zomg Baiting!' and think that a Mod/Admin is going to look at every post you make in a 5k+ member website. Use the tools given to you to help them out.

I'm not going to sit here and naively think that Administration/Moderation has always done what is best for the site. I'll be the first to admit that we've had some pretty shitty Admin/Mod in the past. Now, however, that is not the case. We've got a staff that is pretty goddamn attentive and all people have done is bash the fuck out of them. Have they made mistakes? Hell yes. Have they made up for them? They've damn well tried. Have they done great things for the site? You bet your ass they have. I think QCDN is running way more smoothly than it has in years, perhaps ever. Who do you have to thank for that? Certainly not yourselves as all you do is bitch and complain and not try to help using the tools you have. You just cry foul when you try to take things into your own hands and get called on it.

Now, as for Garvin's mention of hacks and whatnot, I can agree and disagree with that. If you're giving explicit instruction on how to FleeHack or Bot or something, STFU and GTFO. If you're talking about Windower, which is something widely used (yeah, a 'popular hack', I do see your point there) by a shitload of people, I'm going to get more lenient on my opinion. Not just because I use it. It does help with lag, it does help with graphics quality and it does help for ease of use. SE wouldn't have tried to emulate that in some of their game updates if it wasn't helpful. Things like .Dat changes and whatnot, I dont view as serious hacks at all personally. That just adds more customizability to your own personal game. I don't think Myrrh giving himself green hair is going to help him claim anything or run faster anywhere. .Dat'ing is comparable to putting up posters in a white room. You just want it to look pretty. Should anyone start giving out hack advice and trying to promote it as a great thing to do? Your ass should be put on Read Only for the first offense, 30-Day for second and Perma for your third strike. In the past, that would have put some of our 'beloved' members at risk, but I personally don't care. If you try to romantisize something like that and make it seem 'ok' you're fucking things up for honest people. Sorry dog.

Infraction point values should all be the same. I'm in agreeance with some of you on that. But as its been stated before, we've got a lot of different people doing these things. If we let just one person do it, as I'm sure some of you would suggest, shit wouldn't get done. That's a lot of work to be done by one person with as many big mouths we have on this site. I should know, I'm one of them (mouthy). If you dont think Staff has been doing things for you, what exactly are you meaning? Singling out one person to try and get them banned from the site simply because you dont like them? How fair is that to the part of the userbase that is friends with that person? Why should anyone listen to only one person, one not even in a position to decide, on who should stay or go just because they invoke the mob mentality? This is not the Colloseum and I'm sure as shit none of your are named Maximus. So, what I would suggest is this: Stop smoking your own dope and get over yourself.

In summary. Yeah, people should be getting more infractions and better attention should be paid. Does that mean we should crucify the moderation staff when there's basically at the moment only two goddamn people doing anything because of reorganization to try and make the site better? No, it doesn't. You guys have so many complaints and ideas to make the site better, why dont you try and get some people together to nominate you for Global Moderation status? Why dont you try being proactive and putting in some goddamn suggestions and giving out some ideas? Whats the other option? Sitting there with your thumb up your ass waiting for something you like to happen? Yeah, that gets things done.

This thread is ridiculous because its the same bullshit over and over again, just like the same people that are singled out for being 'picked on'.

Morwen -

It's easy. Most people here are incapable whether it's due to incompetence, lack of experience, being too busy or simply just too unpopular to really have such a shot at such positions. Moreso, the mods we have are for the most part relatively popular as well as good at what they do. People will typically bitch and moan about the relative subject of having two named figures reprimanded or banned because they don't want to see the people they see as doing a good job NOT-doing a good job. It proverbially knocks the figure off the pedestal, in which makes most people mad since they can't stand to see someone or something being lesser than what they'd originally seen it as.

...That or they're just spoiled.

Of course mods need to occasionally be flexible with infractions, because they know full well that many spams or trollings aren't the "real deal", if you will, but in fact often times people making playful jabs at each other. There's a few missed things, but then some things are difficult to judge.

The real problem is if mods act on the two named people whom many, many have demanded have something done about, chances are there'll be quite a few people lighting torches and asking why so many others who have "done the same thing (even if it's out of humor and not intentional potstirring)" don't get the same treatment as well.

Sorry but I can't let the people on this board be convinced by this. Saying things you know people won't like isn't trolling, it's speaking your mind. What you meant to say was "saying things to delibrately provoke the community to anger is trolling". There's a big fucking difference and I just wanted to make sure you and everyone else caught that.

This is where it helps to not be a drugged up retard.

I didn't say "saying things you know people won't like."

To elaborate, Hellstorm kept posting the same horseshit red mage melee gobbledy++++, knowing what kind of responses he was going to get. That was trolling.

no, trolling is going around on someone like what you do to hellstorm and comment about RDM melee after the shit was already dead. See what I did there?

One thing... YYR

thats a prime example of trolling, you and like 5 others go around and start talking about YYR non-stop. For once you are actually a use to me. Cheers
