Hey there,

Now, I don't want to stand on a soap box and preach, but I'm going to. I sat on it for a while, and it's gotten to the point where it really bugs me. Posts on here that show/advocate/test drug use are out of line, in my honest opinion.

As we all know, there are younger individuals, and I mean people under the age of 18, that post and read these boards. I find it to be in high, high distaste to allow posts advocating or showing paraphanalea or drug use. I request that some action be taken regarding people that do this. The classic thread concerning a method to get high from in-store products, and the other, "I GOT HIGH AND BEAT MARIO" namely stand out to me.

The reason this stands out to me as highly inappropriate, does not stop at the fact that a younger audience views and participates here, but is also because of personal lifestyle choices, that myself, and I'm sure many others make. I have never done any sort of illegal drug, and I know others share that same perspective. I don't want to see, and I know others agree with me, posts, pictures, information, or any other thing, suggesting or showing good times while on drugs. Now, I made a post on Chuash's thread about this, and was promptly rated down by him for being "Nazi" about it, but really, it's common fucking sense. There are many on here, unspoken, that don't want to see this shit anymore, and I would greatly appreciate it if future posts of the sort, are edited, or deleted, and the poster warned about the content. I apologize for the rant, but it's really bugged me up til now, and I wanted to touch on it.

While I don't do drugs, illegal or otherwise, I frankly see no reason to impose morality on anyone in this situation.

In my opinion, posts that pass off all drug use as some morally abominable choice are out of line. I don't think you should be stopped from saying as much, but I certainly disagree.
 
Most of the geeks that talk about drinking or drugs just started and are all excited about it.

To Garvin:

I don't intend to impose any sort of judgement on people that choose to do drugs, I'm not a judgemental person by default. I'm not asking for an end-all "IF YOU DO DRUGS YOU SUCK" banner on QCDN, I'm asking for simple retrospect. Drugs, in general, are not accepted, and I don't think it's very wise to let the open public view things condoning such behavior. It's a personal choice to do drugs, yes, absolutely, as it is for anything else in life, but it's a choice that can be offensive to others, and is generally frowned upon. I just ask that threads including/showing/condoning drug use here, should be squelched appropriately. If there were nothing but adult, reasonable people capable of making their own decisions here, I'd probably say otherwise, but there is a younger audience, and these were made perfectly public. To each his own I suppose.

Double post, I know, but yeah, Meeze, you're exactly right. There are plenty of people here, that are perfectly content with what they do and the choices they make, and that's just fine, they don't publicise any questionable content, because they frankly don't care, it's what they do. I have respect for this post, mainly, because it's full of fact. When someone young, and immature tries something new, what do they do? They advertise it, and that's what I'm asking to be put away.

Frankly, why is it offensive? Because it is illegal? Because it is something you personally do not like? Because it is potentially damaging if mistreated? If so, we should add smoking, drinking, gambling, and MMORPGs to the list of topics that should be "squelched".

It's one thing to do these things in your personal time, but to run around posting dumb ass threads about setting up parties to get wasted is just too much. They are more of a "look at how cool I am cause I do drugs" posts.

I feel that if it were just in "Reality Sinks In..." it would be better, but its getting out of hand sometimes.

I remember an event scheduling post that was just "Hey lets get drunk and get xp to be cool!!!!" (paraphrased, keep in mind)

These kind of things have long irked me, but if we start moderating based on post content then we are turning to the Sculli days which so many people disagreed with.

In most cases these people dig their own graves with the content of their posts. While I know that's not the intent of your OP here Mistra, it does in a sense regulate itself. They see how many ratedowns and smartass replies they get for talking like this and usually stop by themselves. Or they go apeshit and eventually get banned.

Couldn't have said it better than Meeze, myself. It's too much. Yes, the shit is illegal. A vast majority of people are very impressionable; make something a fashion statement, and suddenly people want to do it. Exactly that, it's one thing to do it personally in your own time, but to publicise it is over-extreme. I can see and respect your stance on it, but this is mine, and I know others share it. Publicly advocating drug use, because yes, it's fucking illegal, is too much. There are younger people, again, that read these boards. Impressionable, immature, people, that may read something, unnanounced, and decide that it's a cool thing to try, because someone else said so. More than that however, it's overly tacky. You bring smoking, alcohol, MMO's, and whatever else into the list, and it's unnecessary. They are harmful when abused, yeah, but they are legal, socially allowed and accepted. People smoke all the time, and it's socially accepted. The alcohol though... yeah, it's a bit much to post these wild, crazy parties all over. It's more acceptable though simply because it's legal to an older audience. I'm not saying it's right, I'm saying it's taken much lighter than drugs. The shit can get you in trouble, and to over glamorize something to someone younger can land them in trouble. While I don't intend to say people are quite that stupid, you never fucking know. It's over the top, and should stop.
 
While I can see the point Meeze is making, I have to agree with CmdrFly. Yeah, most of it is coming from immature teenagers. Let it regulate itself. Rate it down, disagree with it, look unfavorably upon it, but to outright ban it is Sculli-ish, especially if legitimate topics come up.

The legality and morality of it is only the business of the reader, and if underage users are unsupervised, that's not QCDN's fault nor is it their responsibility. Parenting shouldn't be passed off to forum admins, and if someone's capable of making their own decisions, it's only their responsibility if they make ones that can be considered poor.

If you look like an idiot, and people disagree with what you've posted, the content will likely take care of itself.
 
I personally don't care if someone wants to try to be cool by stating they were high when they did something. I care when it goes beyond a simple "lol I'm awesome cause I did drugs then killed kirin!" to a whole post, pictures included, that glorify drug use. That's where I draw the line personally. Also the "high party" things or whatever in Event Scheduling were stupid and anything that tells people how to get high, legally or otherwise, has no place here. I know I've seen more than one topic explaining how to get a buzz off medicine or something, that shouldn't be here.
 
As if I even have to post here agreeing with Rappa's statement. I made my position clear in Odon's thread long ago, I don't like it, discussing drugs does not belong here. Telling people 'new highs' and how to come by them, that crosses the line.

If self moderation stifled the topics 100% of the time, I would agree. However, there have been threads with 'productive' discussion on how to get a new high. That shit, whether for liability or moralistic reasons does not belong here.
 
More people should just get the "Dont ask, dont tell" policy in their heads
 
Considering that you're not allowed to talk about how/where to pirate software, the same standard could be applied to drug usage. No one cares if you do drugs(seriously, no one fucking cares), but at the point where you tell people how to get high or try to advocate doing it, that's crossing the line; just like you can't post a link to a torrent file for some game/music/movie.

Mistra's OP doesn't seem(to me, at least) to want to stop the "btw I smoke pot" posts, it wants to stop the "this is how I got high, so now you can try it to" or the "getting high is the greatest thing ever, everyone should do it" posts.
 
I agree with Bajaratt says...

The drug posts should be dealt with on the same level as pirating posts. Warnings and edits of those posts could be a decent way to deal with them. No one gets mad (except the OP) and no one gets banned, and people will maybe just.. Not do it next time.

But then youll have to deal with "why cant I talk about druge" complaints

That is exactly what I was trying to convey. I don't intend to restrict people's decisions, just their advertisements condoning it. Especially posting pictures in use, that's just beyond bad taste and tactless.
