Last night, I was running through the jungles to wave at some friends of mine before I logged out. I suddenly get a /tell from someone (can't remember the name... but this person will make himself obvious) saying "My party just kicked me, will you power level me?"

Oh dear.

My first thoughts were "This person is asking a stranger for a power level" and "His last party thought it necessary to kick him from a Kazham party."

My answer was "Good heavens, no"

I make a good guess out of the names I saw when I passed by, and I knew one name who was a good player, and I was right.. she kicked him. Aparently, this person didn't even know that goblins do not infact link with Mandragora, and other sundried offenses.

I have powerleveled before, but just like an answer I've given someone who criticised me for it: "I dont know what you're doing, but I'm spending time with my friend." I'm sure it has its place, but .. it just scares me about how many people will be level 60 now based upon hours of .. being power leveled, and not learning how to play.

Not been 2 weeks and im almost 55 aiming for 60 on sunday (when got brd) i got PL from 5-10 as it was hard from 10-18 PL maybe 18+ no way makes to many noobs with big egos
what i would of done was just bliacklist him and ask all your mates to as well

i've already said that the effect of players (noobs i to be specific) being PL'd. lvl 60 thf's that dont know how to sata. upper lvl blm's that still overnuke and bitch when they gat hate and die, much like pre patch rangers did that were PL'd.

i will PL a friend that has lost their lvl but i flat out refuse to PL a party.

Like I keep on telling my LS, I won't give out PLs unless one meets the following three criteria:
1) I know you
2) You have 100k+ to spend for your PL
3) You have at least three jobs 40+, two jobs 50+ or one job 60 ~ 75.

I still get people telling me that PLs don't matter. But just take a look at the Dunes where it seems that every party there has a PL now. This is just plain unacceptable. No one likes the Dune levels, I understand, neither did I (which is why my static skipped it altogether). But the 10 ~ 19 level range is a critically important point in one's "job career." It's when you first start learning how to do your job in a party.

Powerleveling only screws up one's understanding of the party dynamic.

Me: Careful with the nukes! The pld doesn't have hate yet!
Pld and blm: What's hate?
Me: ...

Experience Points are not the same as experience. While one or two PLs in the stretch of every ten or so levels I could possibly deal with, I've been in too many 50+ and 60+ parties with bad tanks, over-zealous blms and people who just do not know what they are doing to really turn a blind eye toward the negative effects of getting a constant stream of PLs.

If I want to level my magic skills some more, I'd join a skill up party or something or do a Beseiged.

I agree. But I also think that certain jobs are ok to PL. Monk in the Dunes for example, really only needs to beat the crap out of the mob for levels 10-20. There really is no other party role for MNK besides DD.

Any class that involves Tanking or Healing should NOT be PL'd. These jobs need a party environment to learn their roles.

Im still up in the air about PLD though. If your a PLD, you have been a Warrior before, and thus know at least the basics of tanking. The white magic you get for curing yourself makes holding hate easier, but you still need to know when to Shield Bash and whatnot. Then again, PLD is a quick invite job, so I cant really think of many situations where a PLD would ask for a PL.

Yeah but most of the new players that want to go paladin don't know how to use cures as hate. I've seen too many just leave their mp pool alone while most of the party is in yellow and their in white for hp. It doesn't even occur to them that if they cure themselves or someone else that they get hate. There's been a couple of people that I had in my parties that were pl'd to like 20-25. I just kicked them. Especially since one of them was a ninja and didn't have any magic, plus their evasion was at like 10. I'm guessing because the pl was taking hate instead of the ninja.

I won't run from a PL'd party, but I won't exactly get all gushy over it either.

I've had my share of bad PL parties, while I've enjoyed awesome XP without a PL in the dunes.

I've been offered by LS mates to come PL my party in the dunes or wherever, and I look at how the party is going before giving an answer. If I have a shitty PT, I'll have them come and PL just me, or maybe me and another player against T's and VT's. If I have a decent party with good players, I'll say ok as the lack of downtime makes the xp flow quicker. Even with good players there can be too much downtime in the dunes. If the party is demolishing shit, I tell them the party is ok without a PL.

I dislike pling because it leads to ppl not knowing how to do their jobs, on the flip side, I will PL and request PLs for subjobs lvling with ppl I know are competenet enough to play.

If one of my brothers decides to switch jobs and has to start at lvl 1, I'll PL him until he hits 12, so he can quickly get himself a party and become a productive member of society. It doesn't take very long, and there isn't too much harm being done because there isn't much to do those first levels that isn't hit, rest, repeat.

The only other time I'll PL is if one of my brothers is in a party while im seeking. I'll spend my seek-time helping them out. I usually let their whm know that I won't be long, and that I am not going to do all the work for him. If I see the whm or pld avoiding their duties, I'll flat out stop casting until they do their jobs.

I've only had a few parties where someone had a friend come PL us, and its nice, but it definetly makes people pay less attention to what they are doing.

I PL my friends if im not doing anything at the moment or taking a breather from farming lol. And maybe their pt's if im in the mood.
Other than that, i wouldn't PL a random person just because they asked me.

Or even offered gil for a PL for that matter because im automatically gonna assume if you are in the 10-25's you dont have any to spare for a luxurious PL anyway.

I personally won't ask for a PL mainly because most people in my LS are DDs rofl. Nor would i offer money for one either.
I'll try to do it myself and however my pace is i'll get to my goal regardless.

People just want the easy way out...seriously.
And if they dont learn the dynamics they end up being called high level noobs.

You are all over-looking what happens to a job if you grab hate while pling... All tanks lose those all so good evasion, parry and shield skill ups. I used to like pl but recently I've began to dislike them.

I stated that a little bit in my post before.

I think its funny that people think since you have a job at 60+ regardless of what it is, that you can pl. My sam is 64 and people ask me all the time to PL them, most of them random people. I'm like my highest mage job is Whm lvl 10 idk what you want me to do.

I'd PL for 100g per mp I use.

1235mp x 100g, 123,500g for every bar of mp I use. Any takers?

I'll put my two cents in...even though I'm in no position to powerlevel anybody...as a WHM even at a low level, I make it a point to cure anybody whenever I can. It boosts my stats and, more importantly, creates an environment of camaraderie and teamwork. If I'm in transit to some place and I come across a party getting the crap kicked out of them, I'll toss a cure spell their way (as long as whatever's kickin the crap out of them won't aggro me - lol). Sometimes if I need to level my stats, I'll hang around someone who's leveling (either solo or in a party) and just cast away. It's a lot more fun than setting a macro to cast on yourself...Plus, it's a good way to experience a party without any of the worries of being responsible for people who can't play...LOL!

Well lvling my pld I got a bit anoyed at having a PL in every freakin party. If my party set up included a healer (didn't always) then I would sometimes use /blockaid to stop PLers because I wanted practice tanking stuff before there's much of an exp loss. This was also amusing as many of the PLers didn't know what /blockaid was and were all confused when they couldn't cure me.

I suggest using /blockaid if you are a tank, like me, tired of lazy whms and want to practice tanking under more normal conditions. Not to mention the skill ups.

I do like to toss out random cures buffs and raises as I run through low lvl areas but I generally don't just sit down and PL people.
