Long story short, I blew up the power supply on my main computer yesterday. I've been browsing for new ones, but this is my first time replacing, and I'm not really sure what's good and what isn't. I need something in-between 350w-500w (enough to support a xt850), 20+4 pin connector, and under 100 bucks.

Thanks in advance!

Antec makes grade A quality products at low quality prices. I'm with Acks on his recommendation.

guys be serious, come on >.>;

Antec is charging for scrap. They make like the worst PSU within big brand companies. If you're planning to keep your PSU for a while and even transplant it in a new computer, I would suggest either

- SeaSonic (http://www.seasonic.com/co/index.jsp)
- Silverstone (http://www.silverstonetek.com/)
- SPI/Sparkle (http://www.sparklepower.com/index.html)
- Thermaltake (http://www.thermaltakeusa.com/)

Trust me I build at least a dozen of pcs every week, and I'm really picky when it comes to power supplies. If you need to replace it for a while, put the money in the drain if needed.

Personnaly I would use a SeaSonic or Silverstone, I only use them on high-end pcs though since their price range can go from 80-150+$ depending if you take the silent version with modular plugs and stuff and plan to break someone window with it (yeah you can use them as a brick). BUUUUUT, here's the important part: they have 3yr warranty on their products (some have lifetime), they have fuse in every PSU so you don't fuck up your intern components (hello thunderstorm, nice to meet you), they're not running hot easily and they are very silent even with basic models. If you go over their website you can have the part numbers for the category you're looking for.

If money is really your top priority though, look for SPI/Sparkle, I use/sell them like cakes and quite frankly we don't have any come backs about them. I was going over the numbers in our shop few weeks ago and on the approximate 2500 SPI branded PSU we sold last year we only got 1.8% return/RMA on them so maybe they look plain, but man they pack a punch ^^'. They are a lot cheaper too, but they only have 1yr warranty and are a little bit noisier than the high end ones.

Here's my list of what to avoid (Alphabetical to avoid fanboyism):

- Antec (They were failing with their Sonata II and still are)
- Corsair
- OCZ
- Made in China (They look defect even before using them)

There is a ton of companies out there making power supply, I know there is missing a lot (Coolermaster, Enermax, FSP, Zalman, Zippy, etc.) in the list above, but I can't tell for those companies if they're good or not since I don't build PCs with them on a regular basis. But I stand beside at least SeaSonic, Silverstone, SPI and Thermaltake since I used at least 500+ PSU of each brand, and generally have close to 0 problems.

If you want to have a good estimate on the retail price of the components you can head over to http://www.ncix.com. I used to shop there for very hard to find / newly released parts.

Sorry for my bad English, I'm french so don't go all out on me for grammar. And if you still need some help about you PSU feel free to hit me up in-game, I'll be more than pleased to lend you a hand on the matter ^^.

P.S.: if you go out there looking at different brand, a quick tip, basically the heavier they are the better they are lololol.
