Powerlevel Request Asshattery

This is why I've started adding "No, I will not powerlevel you." to my search comment when I'm playing solo. I hate powerleveling and will only do it for close friends if I think they've got a handle on their job and need help getting over that awkward Lv 7-10 hump.

You'd think a polite but firm "No" would be enough for some of these people. *sigh* I won't go /anon because it's a nice break from fishing or farming if I've been at it awhile.

Anyway, just wanted to share that bit. Any other mages get that kind of crap?

yeah, always, when im in valkrum dunes, or anywhere for that fact, i get ppl askn for PLs for FREE and to pay gil for them, i sai no and they keep askn, gets really annoying, i only pl friends when im bored, but not complete strangers, or even new ppl, becuase if you pl new ppl,. they skip out on the stuff your kinda needed to learn at low lvs and other ppl get mad,

I have a few jobs... mostly melees that is kinda high... I still hate powerlevelling no matter what. Sure, it's sweet... but that sweetness doesn't really come from your hard work. It doesn't matter even if you are gimp, plvling will make the pt rock... So, PLVLing "No, Thank You"

Besides... you know what they say about sweetness? It gives you diabities.. heheh!

Oh.. I also hate people in my party asking in group if I'd like to pay some dude to plvl us. I'm pretty sure that most of the time, I'll be the only one who says, no while everyone says yes and refuse to pay the dude or the whm/rdm/blm anything.

I only PL friends who already have high jobs. I keep anon most of the time because I am sick of people who are lost asking me to come find them and give them a d2 out. People just don't take "Sorry, I am busy" as an answer i guess.

Been there, done that too many times to count. Funniest part is I haven't been on my whm in quite a while. But, I still get, "Will you come pl me, raise me, tele me, yada yada." When it's people I know and luv, I don't mind it. But when it's people who've just seen me or I've helped in the past while on my whm and remember my name, I'm like wtf.

I agree whole heartedly. PLing on the first job leads to crappy players.

I get PL begs quite a bit too...and anon doesn't really help...someone sees me and/or checks, they'll instantly know I'm whm and start begging.. ><

Our linkshell recently picked up a new member- he was a level 8 RDM with no sub when he joined. The first thing he did was ask for a PL. Everyone in the link told him, in multiple different ways, that we only PL people with established characters, and even then only if the PLer is REALLY bored. We told him he was better off hitting EP-DC mobs and farming his way up to 10-12, where he could then get an xp party.

Next day, he comes onto the link- he's still a level 8 RDM, and he's asking for a PL AGAIN. Again we tell him no.

Day 3, he comes on, and asks for a PL. I tell him flat out- we're not giving you a PL, and the next time you ask, you're out of the link. He hasn't asked since, heh.

Now admittedly, I've talked with this guy a few times- turns out he's a 13 year old kid. PL seems to be more common the younger the age of the player is- not saying that all young players are lazy schmucks, just that it's more likely. Think about it- they're still out of touch with how the real world works, they've had all their food, shelter, clothing and entertainment provided by their parents for free. Is it any surprise that they come into a game, and are unwilling to "work" for their stuff? They've never had to work IRL, why should they in a game? It's the people who know that not everything comes handed to you just for the asking who are willing to put up with some of the more repetitive aspects of the game to get to the fun stuff.

Which brings up anotyher point- why are these people even playing if they're just going to leech off everyone else? A well-formed XP party is WAY more fun than one being PL'ed anyday. If they're not having fun playing the game as it's meant to be played, then they should have their mommies cancel their accounts for them, and go back to playing on Neopets.

I've gotten "PL me now!" from people I knew and who were being completely serious--no 'hello,' no 'are you busy,' no 'please.' I mean seriously, just because I've known you for a while and we're sort of friends, doesn't mean all semblance of civilization goes out the door.

Yes, I could go /anon and avoid a lot of it, but I said before I don't go /anon because I don't mind being available to people who need raises (breaks up the fishing routine, if nothing else). My biggest complaint is for the player's response when I said I wouldn't powerlevel him.

yeah there are a lot of reasons that i dont go /anon while I'm not partying. Usually because i'm farming certain areas and i dont mind raising people (giddeus, pashhow, palborough, etc) Other times its because there are people in my linkshell that might need me for some kind of reason.

I have made a habit of putting search comments in my profile now though. I haven't really gotten any /tells for powerleveling (welll i did once in qufim but the person was nice enough that when i said no said ok thank you anyway and was on their way).

The only thing that really bothers me is the <Party?> when my search comments say <Party?> <No, thanks.> I've started yelling at people for it now.
