Presidental Address: Border Battle 5/15/06

I wish this site would not load signatures before it loaded the rest of the page - ie... this quick reply feature.

It seems QCDN has no opinions or everyone is incredibly apathetic, or perhaps everyone plays on dial up and hates browsing the internet.

I am going to assume the latter because misery loves company.

---------------

As far as the topic goes, I finally find myself agreeing with an agenda that Mr. President Bush has laid before the American people. I'll tell you why.

1.) Open Discussion - He(Bush) has been very forthcoming with what he wants to do. This is something I find refreshing coming from an administration that tries to reveal so little.

He does not want to grant 'amnesty' in the sense that everyone who is here now, is legal. That is not fair to those who follow the proper guide lines of getting into this country.

Bush would like to introduce a work program that allows foreigners to work in this country targetted at Mexican foreigners (Perhaps a modification of the Work Visa?). Unless you wouldn't mind picking tomatoes in a field for 8 hours a day, most likely getting paid less than minimum wage, I don't want to hear anyone here say that Mexicans are not doing the jobs American's won't do. The people these 'aliens' work for most likely know they are illegal, and thus hold that as grounds to pay them less. (Which is totally not fair and this program will also have an effect of putting a halt to this.)

Additionally, this immigrants would have back taxes due before becoming legal. This should help offset the millions of dollars lost each year to medical prices on illegal aliens.

2.) Families - I am not talking about the illegal immigrants themselves... I am talking about the effects these 'aliens' have had in our primarily southern communities. They have friends, possibly children, and wives. Don't think about the people that came here illegally - think beyond... Just think if you were a kid that was deported from your friends, and forced to live in a country where 'clean water' and food isn't as common as it is here. There is a reason the immigrants come here in the first place.

3. Tradition - It maintains a view of what this country was founded on. The American dream, a place you can go to break free of whatever was holding you back and start over. It isn't as easy as it once was, but it is still possible.

4 - Security - Sure, the Canadian border is much larger and easier to cross, however, if the Mexican border is secured, it is just that much less ground true terrorists have to get into this country.

I like the security. I can deal with the gradual acceptance program. I completly disagree with the guest worker program. It defeats the entire purpose of building a fence to keep them out. Instead of them sneaking in illegealy, this gives them a legal way to get into the country. Then there is no way to track them down and get them back out after their time is up. Same problem we have with green cards.

I would like to point out, the big reason americans can't do those jobs is because we can't survive on those wages. And we can't survive on those wages because we pay our taxes. They only get by on those wages because they're cheating the system in the first place. Why should they become legal, make slightly more money, and pay out 1/3 their income to taxes?

And with all that money they pay in free health care and lack of car insurance for those not using public tran, it's amazing they ever get by. They're better off than your local legal super market worker.

Yea, I was all happy and shocked I was actually agreeing with Bush until he brought up the guest worker program.

So, they can come in to work, but only for a set amount of time. How is that any different than catch and release. What the hell is gunna make them leave once their time is up? Nothing. IDK why he decided on supporting such a weak system like that. They need to make becomming a citizen easier IMO. I've known several immigrants that followed the rules and contributed more to society and to this country more so than most american citizens I know, yet they cannot seem to catch a break when it comes to becomming an American citizen.

Friend of mine has been living here for 9 years, 4.0-4.5 GPA from elementary school through high school and into college, parents working hard and doing great. He gets told after hes done with college, he needs to get the hell out. Thats fucked up. I wish they'd tell some American citizens who do nothing but harm to get the fuck out.

Well.. I suppose they could be issued ID cards that are bio-genetically matched to them. Each time they cross the border, scan the card.

If one falls out of alignment, their eligibility for the program could be confiscated, and they would be deported. Although I'm sure 'Human Rights Activists' would jump all over that shit.

How would they confiscate them? o.O Pull them out of their arms? lol

Anyways, I really od believe that security is needed for the border. Terrorists could just as easily get through (not implying that Mexicans are terrorists). Also, why can't these 'aliens' just follow the proper guidelines and get green cards legally? It's not an extremely hard process. In Texas (I don't know if this is rumor or not) they are planning on building an all-Spanish-speaking community in multiple places. What the hell? I have nothing against Hispanics what-so-ever. Alot of my friends are Hispanic, but this is complete bull. Last time I checked, the official language of the U.S was labeled as English. Now, I know at homes, families speak different languages. But once you get out into the everday U.S.A, speak some English, PLEASE. And about the illegals doing jobs no one else will do, that's somewhat true. Companies take advantage of them and pay them wages horribly lower than minimal wage. Now think of it this way, wouldn't they HAVE to pay minimal wage (atleast) if it were an American citizen? Yea, they would, because by law, all American citizens must be paid atleast minimal wage, and with a few exceptions. And why can these 'aliens' free-load on the U.S taxpayers and not pay taxes? It's ridiculous! And then I'm hearing that 'aliens' can recieve U.S Driver's Liscences, and college tuition help? What about all the U.S citizens who worked their butts off to get into college? They won't be able to recieve as much help by companies with coleege tuition because they have to support 'illegal aliens' as well. That's my opinion. 100% opinion. So go think I'm baised, go think whatever. But I really think this is bull with this whole situation.

gonna sound like the redneck republican, but listen for a moment...

I'm all for it, its been a common fact that organized crime has developed from underprivaliged immagrants since the Irish came over in the early 1900's. The latino populations are jumping borders, riding boats, and do whatever else they can to get here. They support the government in no way (i.e. taxes) yet they recieve a substantial amount of health care and assitance from the government. We have loyal-blooded Americans in our inner cities, living off wellfare, trying to make a living, doing it the correct way that cannot recieve any assitance. Are we to hold latinos on a higher podium than others becauase they can hop a fence and run faster than a 400lb border patrol cop. I'm against sending them back, but I am strongly for making them all pay taxes in order to stay. They deserve no special right because they got here from hard work, so did everyone's ancestors.

Sidenote: They need to learn to speak some English if they're going to stay. Its almost to the point where you have to speak English and Spanish in order to function properly in this country when our official language is English not Spanglish.

English in public; Spanish or other languages at home. You gotta remember it's not only Mexicans who are crossing the border. Well, not only Hispanics*. There are illegal immigrants coming from South America, Europe, and Asia. And also, it's technically legal for Cubans to come to the U.S without proper admissions if they are trying to escape communism under Fidel Castro. Yet, it's illegal to immigrate from China, North Korea, or Vitenam without proper admission? Those Asian countires are all communist-based societies, why can't they illegal come to the U.S? Oh and by the way, I'm all for Pres. Bush's plan, and I'm not a Republican. So I'm all for what Psy said.

i heard somewhere that they sang the national anthem in spanish. OUR national Anthem in Spanish. Ok, The United States of America is a melting pot for multiple races, ethnicities whatever. But don't translate something that is SUPPOSE in english, into spanish. Its bad enough seeing a spanish translation under everything known to man in this country. Dont you have to be able to speak english before you are even granted citizenship?

I totally agree with you Psylent.

Oh my god, I hear that too. :shok: It's completely bull, and yes, you did need to know most of the anthem and pledge of allegence (which is also going to be translated into Spanish) in English. So learn some English! It's not that hard, in spite of being the hardest language to learn. Which is why I love the song, "Speak English or Die" by System of a Down. By god, I'm going to become president just for this reason, and make English the national language. By the way, English is not the national language. The U.S has no actual national language due to its overwhelming immigrated population.
