hey guys, I just recently become interested in the presidential candidates and which one has the most potential for being the next president of the united states.

Right now after checking a few websites and reading some of the issues that have been addressed, Barack Obama is on the top of my list.

I think that Obama can bring positive changes to America, such as getting out of Iraq and establishing a more productive means of fighting the organized psychopaths (I like that better then terrorists), putting support into finding new sources of renewable energy lowering our dependency on oil, and helping the people below the poverty line get jobs and earn a right to accomplish the american dream.

I am just sick of seeing greedy money grubbing people running our country who only care about the price of there oil stock and how much money is in there bank accounts so they can stare at it and not do a thing to help anyone.

I really think that Obama can make the right changes.

well im looking for everyone elses opinion, thanks for reading.

You got really irritating with all the topics you started a few months ago, Dehorse, but if you want to have a mature discussion, I'll bite.

http://origin.barackobama.com/issues/

The senator outlines all of his various position in a few dozen pages of text divided by subject. Addressed are poverty, foreign relations, Iraq, healthcare, energy, education, homeland defense, immigration, and a few other issues.

Instead of breaking down some of his established positions, I'll start with a subject he doesn't even touch: social security.

Combined with medicare and medicaid, social security (as of the 04 budget) occupies just over half of our nation's total budget. What's more, this spending falls under the category of "non-discretional" meaning that Congress cannot change it without altering the fundamental laws that govern the social security system. Personally, I am forced to pay 7% of my income (roughly $3,000) a year into the system.

I would not care if my money was going to a well-designed system that would ensure a good return on my investment. Instead, the social security system is broken (it has been called such by its own administrators) and will be bankrupt around 2020-2030, depending on exactly how long the baby boomers live. Medicare and Medicaid (accounting for 1-2% of that 7% total) are arguably no better. I'm basically being forced by the government to throw away three grand of my hard earned money every year.

Even if social security wasn't going broke, and it worked the way it was designed to work, the money you put into the system does not garner interest. On top of all that, you only get back all the money you put in if you live well beyond the average lifespan. Money put into a regular savings account returns more.

Personally, that makes me damned mad. And the good Senator doesn't even recognize the problem, even though the Social Security Administration has made many reports to Congress about this issue.

Forget my disagreements on just about every other position he takes: the fact that he does not even cite this problem is enough for him to lose my vote.

Oh shit, this guy again?

Where did you copy and paste this from? ¬_¬

Dude you're like 16 you can't vote. Hell you can't even get your own opinion. If you don't like money hungry people get the fuck out of the US. People choose who they vote for they then vote in former CEO's like G.W. Bush. We need to stop voting in republican business men because they don't care about the people they only care about their pockets. Of course Dems are the same way.

You're better off looking at more independent parties over the main parties. Also get more people voting instead of 25% of the registered voters.

I agree with Celv on Medicaid. The nation just needs to do away with it because poor people are going to be poor if they don't try to change their situation. Although most companies are fickle about giving insurance now. Like I said though if they don't try to get back in the game then they don't deserve health care.

I have to disagree with privatizing social security. The system works fine the problem is people dipping into the well taking money for other programs. I agree with your prediction that Social Security will dry up by 2030 because of baby boomers. However privatizing can't work because of one flaw. The people that are about to retire to 10 years away from retirement wont have enough money placed into a private account to live off of unless some huge epidemic happened that caused the life expectancy of an American to be drastically reduced by 5-10 years or so.

As for Medicare keep it because old people couldn't afford normal insurance policies. Most old people have to have a secondary insurance to cover all their medicinal needs along with their doctor visits. Then there are Ambulance fees, and a slew of other things that Medicare would only partially cover.

Just to clarify for those of you who don't know Medicaid= Poor people Medicare= Old people.

I think this one is gonna be real close. I think Clinton will win the nomination for the democratic party, but I also think republicans will heavly play on the fact that clinton is a woman. America isn't ready to have a female president.

And don't forget to vote, we all know how much that matters...

God I don't want H.R. Clinton to win. Right now Obama has a 1% lead over Clinton who is tied with the guy who was running mate with Kerry.

I wish I could agree with you, but unfortunately, anything *but* privatization will end up in ultimate failure of the system - it's just a matter of when. People fail to realize that Social Security was a *stopgap* measure thrown out there in a desperate attempt to get people to have confidence in the system again during the Great Depression. It was a psycological tool to get the populace to start putting their money back in circulation rather than hiding it under their bed (which in turn made the depression worse). The administration of the time always thought that more people would be working than would be drawing payments, so that the net balance would always be positive. This hasn't been the case for many years now.

While "dipping into Social Security funds" is a common bugbear of our government, by and large, it's just not true. With the number of people drawing Social Security, the government simply cannot afford to redirect those funds anywhere else.

The only way to fix the system is to go into deficit spending to fund those currently drawing on the system, then allow current donations to go into private accounts. The government already has a working model of this system that's been around civil service for a long time - the Thrift Savings Plan (also known as the government 401k). Simply translate the model for the population at large and let them have their pick of any number of government-backed financial institutions. *Any* interest would be better than the 0% interest we get from our current Social Security system... assuming we ever get the money at all.

Such a solution would hurt now, but in 20-30 years, we would have eliminated over a HALF of our current federal spending. As of the 04 budget (the last I really looked into) that's around $0.7 trillion. We could either turn right around and pay off the deficit spending we had just performed to dig our way out or we could use that windfall to take care of other programs in this country.

For those to whom .7 trillion is just a very large number: it's enough to send 11.6 million kids to four years worth of college.

coming from an arab .............. whoever win ... we the arab lose

I look around at the wealth flooding into the Middle East, and I don't see much loss, Dayner. There are cities that I have flown over here that make the best parts of America look poor. Voices among your people call America a decadent country rolling in wealth, and I can't help but notice sheiks here who drive Rolls Royce's right by their own countrymen living off the streets.

American bombs don't do that.

This is nothing personal, Dayner, you know I <3 ya, but in response to what you say I've got to say this:

With the exception of Iraq, the future of the Middle Eastern nations is not in the hands of America. The controlling families of each respective country have always had the capability to improve the lot of their people, and only Qatar and the UAE have seemed to make any effort to do things on behalf of their populace.

In terms of American involvement, we wouldn't be there right now if it weren't for the actions of the Wahabis. They have taken a good and upright religion and perverted its teachings so as to bend the will of their followers to their own political ends. Do you think we like paying hundreds of billions of dollars to spill the blood of our own men and women? Keep the radicals among your people from killing us and our allies and we go away. It really is that simple.

My honest opion is we need a presidnet that does not mix there beilefs with how they controll the Country.

I am a gay guy and my partner has been here for 7 years. He has a Degree in Avaition tech, AA in accounting and is going back to school for his B.A. But yet this f**king country has the nerve and says in 2 years u need to leave. He has been here for 7 years paying taxes and what not.

This is why i am leaving this country and going to the UK. This country is all about work, work, work death. You have no life here.

I would rather make less money and have a Quality of life and solcialized medicine.

I also really hate relgion; It's a tool to control people and i just cant satnd it. I have a good heart i dont need a book to know if i am a good person or not.

People dont cause Wars Religion does.

P.s Dont mind spelling i am at work and dont have much time to Reread the post. I will edit when i get home

Religion is one of the reasons why this next election is so important, because the next presdient will have the opportunity to shape the Supreme Court, something few people are looking at in this election.

I go to church, but I still don't want a Theocracy in this counrty. I may not agree with some things, but as long as people are paying taxes and obeying the law, they should have the same rights as everyone else.

People want to ban Gay marriage on the basis of the Bible, but yet you have Fornicators, adulterers, and divorced people walking to the poll to cast votes against it. I may not agree with it personally, but I know I hate hypocrisy, and also as a black person, I've been through enough in my short life, that I'm unwilling to discriminate against another group of people.

If i can i get Mairred/ civil union i would be able to request if my partner can stay. But because he is not a girl there is nothing i can do. I am a Us citzen that feels so helpless because of my power to not help my partner. That is why i am very angry. I need to leave teh country i was born for a unknow country because this country wants to hold cilvil rights to me. I see my self as a 2nd class citzen. If i was straightt i would be a 1st class citzen but if ur gay forget it. I cant marry, nor odopt.

I have a major heart condition which if i were to be on my death bed my partner of 4 years could do nothing. He wont be able to see my in the hospital room or even plan my funeral.

No offence but Britain's probably the worst choice if you want to get out of the work work work society. We're the only country in Europe that's allowed to opt out of the 40 hour week, most places wont hire you if you dont agree to work more hours if needed. All in all I don't think Britain's that bad. However I also don't think it's all that good either.

Edit - On the subject of Presidential elections, i'm yet to meet a politician who isn't a bullshitter who's in it for nothing more than what they can get out of it. Long gone are the days were politicians do things for the good of the nation.

Yes i know u will work as much or less then this country. But i am going for 1 reason and that is to be able to live my partner and have a life togeather. They have the civil partnerships which we will start the paper work in a few months.

Back to topic people wonder why alot of jobs are going over seas is well its cheaper and the good people that should stay cant but the people on welfare that pop out babies left and right can. The system is broken. It should be a point system; If u know english, have schooling in a trade or B.A, and have a clean history. They let all of the good people through the cracks while we get left with people on welfare that mooch off the system.

On that I'll certainly agree with you. Over a third of my income goes to taxes and I hate the fact that a good chunk of it is sent to countries I don't like or is used to support people to lazy to get a job who game the welfare system.

All things considered, Ryujin, I support your decision to emmigrate from the US. If someone diverges with the predominating attitude in America to such an extent that it does not allow them to live happily here, I would rather them emmigrate away instead of trying to radically change the country.

The US was founded on the priciple of majority rule with respect to minority rights (something, as being a minority, I certainly support). However, over the past 50 years, we've become so sensitive to minority RIGHTS that we're forgetting the concept of majority RULE. Continue this trend any further and you'll have minority RULE, which was the very reason this country was founded in the first place - to prevent a minority from ruling a majority.

In some cases I would rather some leave the country instead of changing it any more for purposes of accomodation.

I agree with the above mentioned quote in its entirety.

Rate up. ;P

I still love this country but i feel burned by what my rights are. The funny thing is in this day and age people say gays should not marry. It will destroy the foundation of marriage, its a sin in the bible ect.

If u want to talk bible lingo its a sin to divorce. Also marriage has nothing to do with religion it has to do with the 10,000 benefits you get when u marry.

Now i am only bitter that i need to leave the country because the person i love cant stay.
