Everyone finds comfort in different places, be it religion, relationships, friendships, work, partying, or something else. Every person finds a different level of comfort from everything they do, at different stages of their lives. Drinking and one night stands is good for some people, some times, but eventually most people will want something more.
I've always felt religion is a good thing for some people, and a terrible thing for others. It's never been for me, I got a sour taste in my mouth from non-denominational young christian brainwashing weekend camp. Sleep deprivation, peer pressure, and fun times trying to sell christianity to youths was my last experience with it, and I don't see myself going back because of it. I still like the christian ideals, but my problem with christianity is the christians, and some of the beliefs (like the book of revelations, a story told to the early christians about how the evil romans that persecuted them would get their come-uppings, stories like how god tortured Job, his most pious of followers, to prove a point to satan, and how god knows all that is and ever will be, and yet creates people knowing that they are going to spend an eternity in hell)
