This is some kind of bullshit... The only purpose of asking for the IP addresses is for free marketing analysis data and potential lawsuits. Even if they do not win any money from the case the data that they are going to receive is infinitely more valuable.

Seriously, it's the same kinda shit that pisses me off when you buy groceries or anything from any major store. They ID WHO buys WHAT and how often.. that's bullshit. I'm fine with them having a tally of "what is bought and how often" but leave the WHO entirely out of it >.> so the IP would be the same, tally how many go to a site or a video or whatever but not who.. though I guess it's useful online to get rid of the child predators and shit.. but I don't think they make up enough of the population of the internet to warrant it being acceptable.. hmm..

Wow. Some fuckhead judge must be on that case.

Guarantee it will be appealed, first time a case comes up.

and people thought the accusations that Google was trying to become Big Brother were ludicrous. Look at this, if this doesnt mean anything i dont know what to say. So much for the "innocent search engine company".

Holy shit, they know about my late night sour pickle binges?!

From that first link
think I’m not alone here when I say screw you, Viacom. Take your lousy videos and watch them yourselves. Slap a nice watermark on each one so I can make sure I never watch one again. In the meantime, can someone make sure that judges who probably don’t have a clue about what an IP address is don’t get assigned to cases like this?
So much for the freedom of the internet.
