I'm having a frustrating issue opening the game to play it. Basicly, I click on the FFXI Icon on my desktop and after 10 seconds of logging in and loading to the screen it freezes. My whole computer freezes, Ctrl Alt and Delete don't do anything, the music can still be heard and then my screen goes black and you can still hear the music. I have to restart my computer every time and then it will freeze again at a slightly different spot.

Reinstalling my game isn't an option either, because my DVD Rom is fried. It won't read any disks. I have to buy a new one.

Any suggestions?

Maybe your video card is overheating. Pop open that case and see what happens. Also, I've seen a prob like this with some nvidia cards where it locks for 30 seconds then goes back to normal.

You also might want to check how fragmented your system is

Okay one thing though. Where is my video card and how do I pop it open. >< Also, how do I check how "Fragmented" my system is? I don't know what that means.

You can go to start - search for all files/folders Defrag and "Disk Defragmenter" will appear. This isn't gonna solve your problem though. Basically defragging your compuer will compound the used space and free up more memory. If it's a problem with your video card though, two completely different things. I defrag my computer about every 3 -6 months when it starts running slower... so mebbe it'll help speed up your apps..

High fragmentation can mean damaged files. That's why I suggest doing that.

As for the heat thing, I just meant opening up your computer case so that the heat can disperse better. If your problem goes away after opening the case, take one of those can's of air and spray your videocard heatsync and fan. That should help a little if you close your case again. The other thing is to make sure the fans in the computer are blowing and that you have good flow over the card and in the case.

I just tried a bunch more times and got in. I will however try those things later to fix the problem. Thanks.
