Here is an interesting setup I thought up the other night after another failed (not your fault Prothall) attempt to do at least one promy.

5 MNK's and 1 WHM. Hundred Fists from the start.

Discuss.

I'd go with the old stand by of SMN's and RNG's. During my promy runs, whenever we had at least 2 smn's or 1 smn and 1 rng it was a sure win. Well that, and everyone having all thier animas. If the whole party has there animas, almost any set up works..

Depends on which promy I’d say lol, if you talking about the hell hole that is Holla then I’d suggest PLD, RDM, WHM, SMN, RNG (BLM, SMN or RNG for 6th).

After a few failures i made this set-up with 2 SMN and kitted the mob (since it has horrible TP moves. it worked perfectly, even after the RDM D/Ced at the start but he did manage to get 1 Gravity off.

As for the MNK set-up, I wouldn’t recommend it for Holla. 5 RNGs would be fun for it though lol.

You see, the problem is I am trying to think outside of the box due to the fact that I do not have access to 2 SMN's or RNG's in my ls atm lol. I want to hear the most off the wall setups that worked with this, so I can see if i may have that setup in my ls.

i did all 3 Promies with normal set up .. and me as drk -.-

I see. Alot of times for the promies or other CoP missions ppl have to look outside there own LS for help, because alot of these require specific set-ups. As I metioned before though, as long as everyone has all 3 animas, and a good strategy for using them is implimented, then most standard party setups should work.

Ask Skaw, I believe he tried the promyvs on his monk or at least I think he said he did. Also if you do try MNKx5, I have to make one suggestion. It has been my experience that people ALWAYS burn their two hour far too early in promyvs and that's why they wipe. I did it with one group and they insisted on going from the very start. While it was possible with our setup to do several astral flows and kill it, the problem was hate was all over and the astral flows were out of range. If you burn your two hours at 40-50%, you will have a far better chance of survival in my opinion. That'll probably mean you need to sub NIN and hate will be very thin. Also, you still need to get to the top of the promyvs and you have to fight memory receptacles. Not sure how well a group of melees will do especially when it always spams the AoE's.

At any rate, it shouldn't be hard to level SMN or RNG to 30 in literally a week, two tops especially if you all party together (even better since you can be gimp all you want and enjoy yourself). I know you'd rather not try that, but it is an alternative.

Here's all you need to know about CoP's... prepare. It doesn't matter what set-up you have if you dont spend 10-15 minutes before each fight discussing strategy you're gonna wipe. Also they put the items like the animas in the game for a reason. If you're going with friends then you guys can farm animas before hand, if you're going with some random joe blow.. be the responsible one of the group and bring all three animas. 5MNK set-up could work easy as long as you go in with a plan and maybe some animas. If you just walk up to the door to the spire and say "Alright let's do this!" then shout "LEEROY JENKINS" and charge in, you're going to get raped by the boss. Always when doing CoP, and this is true for all the fights:
Prior Planning Prevents Piss Poor Performance

I'd be that 1 whm willing to test it out.

Last time we did it with War/Nin x2 Smn x2 blm, whm. Smns only got off 4 infernos so we lost even with animas. (it was still at 27%)

If I can get 5 MNK's willing to sacrifice thier EXP in a wipe situation, then sure, I'm game to try it out, as I would be one of the MNK's too lol.

I'd say it'd probably be much better to go with the SMN setup. If the MNK thing fails, hit me up, I'd be willing to help. I can bring at least one SMN friend, possibly more.

Psychoanima causes the boss to be 100% intimidated by players for ~30 seconds, stopping all normal attacks (prevents 7-8 attacks).
Hysteroanima causes the boss's special attacks to fail for ~20 seconds. They are still readied, but do not execute. This is especially useful in the last 20% of the boss' HP, when they start to spam their TP attacks.
Terroanima causes the boss to run away from the player with hate for ~30 seconds.
Stole that from FFXIclopedia. I'd suggest using Terro probably right before you all use hundred fists. That way, the WHM can conserve a little MP while the MNKs can wait for Utsusemi recast timer. A couple of those should be enough to get MP and put up fresh shadows and reset recast. Like it says, use Hystero at 20% when it spams TP moves and Psycho should probably be used during dangerous parts (monk is getting hit hard, WHM has hate, etc.). At least that's what I would figure would be the best use of them. Do not use Terro while the MNK use Hundred Fists. It'll be meleeing a kited mob, not very effective at all.

Terroanima is easily one of the most entertaining items in this game. Watching a big nasty mob kite itself is WIN.

I think the first time threw the Crags we had a great mixture of Jobs. On my last run threw Holla we had a bst and drg combo.

You don’t need rangers and summoners to get past the promies. You just need to be prepared. I think animas would be a must for all PT members. We opted to use Hyster and Psycho together at about 50-60% … and that worked fine. In retrospect though I think the Hysters would be better served near the end where they seems to spam TP attacks non stop.

I think preparation and competence is the key. Stocking up on Hi-Pots, animas, reraise items, food… hell even an icuras wing would help.

I would suggest setting up the enm fight for the same promy just to get everyone ready on what to expect from an easier version of the same mob. It’s a free 3k xp if you win with no xp loss if you die… really nothing to lose but time.

If youre going with unexperienced Promy-ers, id steer clear of the Terroranima for sure. Ive had way more good than bad things happen with Terro so i never even bother to use it anymore.

If 5-6 people have both of the other two, these can be very very easy. Just make sure once you get to the top, you designate the order in which players will use their anima so that youre not overlapping or having people just using random ones at will. Set up an order with the other two animas (they last 30 seconds) and that will give you 2:30 of pure pounding. After that if its still not dead, then start firing off some 2 hours.

Thats the best way to do it imho.

a monk can solo 2-3, a monk can solo 5-1.... i bet you 500gil 5 monks and a whm... or better, 4 monks 2 whms could RAPE a promy with a few of the anima that stops tp attacks

Just to warn ya in advance, in addition to an assortment of potions, have the Mnks bring these items:

For Holla - Eye drops(AOE blind), Holy water(AOE Curse), and Poison pots(AOE Sleep)

For Mea - Antidotes(Promyvion Brume=AOE Poison) and HEAPING TONS of potions(AOE pwn/single target pwn)

For Dem - A camera. The rest of us would like to see the ass-whuppage 5 Mnks will lay on that boss.

I agree with everyone else here. With animas and proper strategy, any decent party setup can beat these. As to thinkin outside the box, we once beat Holla with no 2hrs and no animas(yah . . . wiped the first time in . . .) by use of Gravity, ranged attacks, and kiting. We found out that day that poison-potted Wars kiting him stops his annoying Trinary Tap spam during his death throes. Apparently he likes to use both specials in sequence once he goes into his frenzy. He'd AOE Curse/Sleep/Blind . . . then just sorta stand there like a tool because the kite was outta range of Trinary Tap.
