Honestly, I'm not sure whether to put this here, in the quest forum, or on the Flameboard. <.<; What the HELL was SE thinking when they made this quest? As if waiting a game day twice during the quest wasn't bad enough, if you lose any single part, you have to wait a game day just to try that part over again? And then even if you succeed, you still have to wait a game day for the next part? Were they just trying to keep people from ranking up right away when they added this quest or something? I'm 1/1 on the first event (because I made a lucky guess), 1/5 or 1/6 (I lost count <.<) on the second one, and 0/4 on the third one... it is infuriating! At least with the second one, I always had the hope of winning the next time. I honestly don't know why that one took me so long. I seemed to keep getting 8/10 somehow. But this "race" thing... I honestly can't even see myself winning this at all, unless I just somehow get really lucky.

Anyway, my question is: why the hell haven't I heard anything about this before? I refuse to believe I'm the ONLY person who has had this much trouble with this quest. I mean, hell... I know I don't go through every forum here, but I would've thought I'd have seen SOMETHING mentioning this before. I have a new-found respect for people who are Sergeant Major or Chief Sergeant now... because this quest is just fucking ridiculous. -_-

I beat all of them first try <.<

You should do the practice one untill you can make it perfectly. You need to have the music and sound effects turned up loud so that you can the whistle etc. easily.

the run? O.o i went 1/1 on pushups, 1/3 on situps (was blowing whistle at the wrong time, didnt understand) but 1/1 on the run. the guy sometimes would need to be yelled at numerous times but i didnt really have a problem.

whats the issue when you do it?

There is no practice for the race. -_- Honestly, I don't know why the sit-ups took me so long. I got 10/10 easily on the practice, but every time I did the real thing, I'd always mess up right at the end somehow. But in the race, one always seems to either fall behind or go ahead of his friends JUST at the end, and it's too late to hit the whistle, so I lose.

EDIT: I just tried again, and now I'm 0/5 on the run. This time it looked like I was finally gonna make it, but for some reason, even though the middle guy was way behind the other two, when I blew the whistle, it made the sound signifying that I blew the whistle at the wrong time... I guess cuz of that whole "don't be too demanding" thing? He was the only one lagging behind for the whole race, aside from one time when one of the others lagged. I had to blow the whistle at him several times. At any rate, I don't think I've ever been this mad at the game before... I should probably give up for now. <.<;

I'm having the same problem with this quest kyrial. I'm 0/8 at this point. The other two quests were easy imo. All I know is the 3 recruits need to line up, but beyond that-I'm not so sure lol.

Well, I finally managed to beat it, somehow. I think before I was letting them lag too far behind before blowing the whistle. I think it was also part luck; they all lagged behind at one point or another, instead of the same person lagging over and over. Then again, other times when I tried blowing the whistle as early as I did this time, I got that note like I messed up. So... I dunno. I'm just counting myself lucky, and waiting YET ANOTHER FUCKING GAME DAY TO FINISH! AHHHHHHHHH *breaks into SE headquarters and starts shooting people*

Won the first one first try, situps only took me two tries because I had sound off (damn near impossible to know if you are doing it right without sound) and run took me 2 tries. I don't see why anyone would have that much trouble with it.

If you screw up and know you wont pass you can force DC yourself and retry once you re-connect.

as if my desire to engage in things ToAU wasnt low enough.......

O.o

I had some problems with the running part, had to do that one twice; the others I didn't have a problem with. I thought it was actually a fun rank-up quest, not just "go here and check this point," or "bring me this item."

1/1, 1/2, and 1/8 respectively. It was a bitch and I was cursing the quest on LS and vent the whole time I was doing it. The race is part knowing what to do, part knowing when to do it, and unfortunately part luck. Sometimes they just fall behind and don't catch up far enough (blowing the whistle will make them catch up well enough that blowing it again would be "wrong", but leaving them as-is means they're too far behind) and there's not much you can do about it.

If the force-d/c option works (I never heard of that and I'm now past the quest so I can't try it, but it does sound possible that you could d/c yourself while mid-cutscene and not have it count), it'd make it much easier. The running itself is not nearly as infuriating as having to wait an hour every time you screw up.

I don't know if it'd be worthwhile to wait til mid CS, usually I had an idea whether or not I had failed so I would DC right in the middle of it and keep trying.

Well it takes your character a whole minute to conk out on the server end, so even if you d/c'd right at the beginning of the race, it would (as far as the server's concerned) be sitting at the end of the race when you actually conked out.

So you might as well wait and see how you do, and if you don't see all three lined up behind you at the end, then d/c yourself. If they're offscreen when you and the camera stop moving, they don't count. If they're onscreen, they do count. (And they'll be either onscreen shortly behind you, or offscreen, I don't believe there's any "in between".)

If anyone trying this quest can't get *any* of them onscreen at the end, encourage them more - the camera moves a little faster than the players. So if you've got them, at the end of the race, what would be acceptably high on the screen for the *beginning* of the race, chances are they're too far back. (The wording for that is awkward, sorry.)

Well in the case of the race you're right, but I was reffering more to the other events where you know full well if you failed ahead of time.

With the pushups I just took a peice of paper and added a tally mark to each name when they did a pushup.

With situps I passed mostly on luck but you basically gotta wait for the 3rd to finish a situp to stop moving completely.

The run is annoying since the names arent in the same order as the soldiers are during the run. I remembered the first letter of thier name so when they lagged I didnt have to figure out which stupid long name was lagging out of view.

Pushups are concentration.

Situps are timing.

Race is concentration *and* timing *and* luck, which is naturally why it sucks a lot more than the other two combined.

I got the pushups 1/1 but I'm now 0/4 on the situps. You're trying to get the strong, high-pitched whistle and not the weak, chirp-like one, right? Cause I went 10/10 on the high-pitched whistle and still failed...

*edit* Got pushups and Situps mixed up and corrected that. God I'm a retard XD

You want the one that's a short firm chirp, not the one that's more of a longer warble. You're supposed to hit enter just after they lay back down and stop moving (and before they start moving again) - I had the easiest time watching their elbows to see when they stopped moving.

Note that the initial whistle before the first situp is done for you, so the first time you should blow it is between the first and second situps.

Practice with Abquhbah until you get it right for him - doing it with three isn't much different except that you have to wait for the third one to finish moving before you can blow the whistle.

"With the pushups I just took a peice of paper and added a tally mark to each name when they did a pushup. "

Lol, I did the same thing. but it still took me 3 trys to pass it.

Situps I went 1/1
race took me one try.

From FFXIclopedia:

"The camera seems to move slightly slower than the players and NPCs, what might seem fine the first third of the run will become unacceptable for the last third of the run, so be careful. "

Thinking if you push them too soon at the start, thay will get tired and not cetch up nearing the end. I remember the first guy getting near the edge of the screen before I pushed him.

Stop making the mithra boss mad, and maybe she give you easyer rank up tasks! hehe
