I was wondering if anyone could post me some party setups that are known to be successful at the Promy events. I am a PLD and from what I have read/heard PLDs are not wanted for these missions/quests so I need to know what job(s) I should be thinking about preparing. Thank you in advance.

Other leveled jobs:

NIN 9
WAR 32
MNK 18
BLM 17
WHM 15
THF 15
DRG 11

war/nin is the ideal tank for this... promy bosses have special moves that is basically like Drain... such hits are much better blinked away than just tanked. Not only that, but war does good damage :)

I don't have to be the tank. I just want to know what my options are...other than WAR/NIN. What are some other useful jobs/subs for this?

Rangers are a great choice for finishers, because an Eagle Eye Shot backed up by a successful Barrage is hard to beat damage wise. If the ranger subs Ninja, it only adds to thier usefulness.

Summoners are also a great closer, with their Astral Flow ability they can do some great damage.

White Mages are useful for obvious reasons.

Then there is the WAR/NIN tank.

I's sad really, but going into the main boss fight as a job other than these 4 magnifies the difficulty of the boss. Take it from me, and please don't try to go as a DRG/BRD. (<---- has happend to me before! Damn /anon function! )

PLDs are that useless as everyone thinks, ive done both Dem and Holla back-to-back as a pld and both times we beat the records. Holla set-up was:

PLD/WAR (me)
RNG/NIN
RNG/NIN
RNG/NIN
WHM/BLM
SMN/WHM

beat the holla boss in 4:37 ^^, just try to find a pt that will take you

ty Zakai...I've put leveling NIN on hold for a while b/c of the expensive nature, that's money I need to sink into PLD for now...IF I find a group that will take me as PLD, great b/c that is the job that I play the best...but I am thinking that I will try WHM/BLM if need be for Promys...I have wanted to level WHM to 37 for a while now anyway so that I can sub it (FOR FUN) w/ PLD.

Thanks for the input everyone.

I never lost a promy when i had a Bard in my group. I am a frequent promy ENM30 player, and is always helping friends complete there promys. The most requested jobs isnt what job u have.... it all depends on the pty set up. For example,

2 plds, 2rngs, whm, &rdm worked GREAT in promy holla boss.

while

1 pld, 1 mnk, 1smn, 1rng, 1 rdm, 1whm had a terrible time completing the holla boss.

I agree with your assumtion that plds r not really helpful in this, but put 2 together with 2 rngs... plus 2 healers, u have yourself a "Impossible to guage" promy pty set up.

I think the best set up would be 2 war/nins, 2 rng/nins, smn, whm u could replace a smn wit a brd, mainly cause brds increase the rest of the ptys hits, acc etc...

hmmm... i like the cannon-style pt... gonna try that one if i ever try promy's again...

Paladins can do promy missions OH Goody!! there is hope for me yet!

Go Paladins!! Woooo!!

Seriously. I've done Holla and Mea as a Pld tank (Mea twice, once without kiting the mob) and never had any problems with it that would have been ANY better with a War/Nin.

Basically, in my experience 2 War/Nin is ALMOST equal to 1 Pld in these missions, assuming that the Pld knows what he's doing.

job requirements...

i have organized successful promy runs without any of the following: war/nin, nin/war, rng/nin, blm/whm

i have done successful promy runs with: thf/rng, rng/nin, brd/whm, brd/rdm, whm/rdm (usually i go as thf/rng if its a strong pt who just need someone with widescan to guide them through or for anima farming, and brd/whm when its a little more likely for accidents to happen in the pt >.< i swear... {Soul Voice} saves lives. :D

i'm not bragging here, the point i am trying to make is that success in promyvion has less to do with what jobs you bring there and more about the skills of the people in your party. the best promy party i have taken there was promy:dem... rng/nin, rng/nin, rng/war, whm/blm, blm/whm, thf/rng(me). took us less than 15min to get to the spire and had a good time of about 9 minutes for the boss with zero deaths. the main difference between this party and most that i have guided was "They listened to the pt leader." all three of the rng's were JP who didn't speak english... we were successful due to everyone following my directions, even tho i was using auto-translate for most of what i said.

anyone can finish the first three promys... just try not to be a smartass and listen to those who have done it correctly in the past.

true but still, easy to say, i have tried holla dem and mea all once and holla again today and we had the boss on like no hp then because anima ran out he stole our status's and killed some of us with aoe, then his hp began to rise as he drained the life out of the last peeps. The proys are very stressful, and it is true if u listen to the leader you are sure to get success on getting to the boss, but fighting the bos relies on animas, 2HRs and accuracy. As our rangers Eagle Eye shot missed. Just plan well.. :P

Don't forget your local BST brigade :D

I did Promyvion mea with a few people here from QCDN, and I'm sure one of them can vouch that BST does a very good job in this situation. In fact, to quote Ecks,

"Dude, forget a second war/nin. I'll get a BST"

BST/WAR can lay on damage and be a good backup tank (and maybe main tank in a pinch, though I wouldn't recommend it), with the pet as a plus (Tiger jug pet can easily put out the damage with TP attacks).

BST/NIN can be downright nasty, 'nuff said.

BST/WHM can also have its uses with backup curing and whatnot.

By the way, we also broke the record on that run ;)

On a sidenote, I have little experience on the promyvion runs. But one thing I HAVE noticed and take for truth, the party setup itself isn't quite as important as the anima you bring. If you have 3 anima per person, you could more than likely win with an average setup.
