Probably a dumb inquiry, but I'm clueless to things like this.

I've recently moved away for school, and the house I am living in has wireless internet. They have a router but it's upstairs and I am in the basement apartment. We share the same phone line, so I wouldn't be able to resort to using dial up.

My question is, is there a wireless adapter for the old black Ps2 model? Or any other way I could get internet access from the basement with the router being on the second floor, besides running a long ass cable through the house (it's impossible here). If not, I'll have to be a dreaded weekend player until December.

Any input would be much appreciated, thanks!

For the ambitious...

I use wireless Internet and a PS2 as well, so I got a little creative with my solution. I had some fun doing it too. :P

I use a Linksys WRT54GL router that came with embedded Linux firmware (Firmware is the software that runs electronic devices that aren't considered full PCs: PDAs, scientific calculators, cell phones, etc.) The fun part is where you overwrite the manufacture's firmware with DD-WRT's firmware. Use the administration > firmware upgrade page.

After installing the firmware and rebooting the router, I was able to use the new control panel and direct the WRT54GL router to act as a bridge to the base router I have downstairs. Yours will be upstairs while you are in the basement, lol. More detailed instructions can be found on the appropriate wiki page.

Just make sure your new bridge and your PS2 get their IP addresses via DHCP from the base router, and you'll be fine.

I haven't had any problems, but YMMV. Your mileage may vary. Proceed at your own risk, and have fun. =^.^=

I used to play FF on PS2 wireless. Snagged a cheapo Nykon wireless kit from Best Buy for like $74. One end into router, other end into PS2. Never had any issues with it, hell, even had a few LAN ptys off it running up to 4 PS2's at once.

Wireless bridges that are advertised for gaming are way expensive. One thing I do for my PS2 when I need it to operate wireless is plug the Ethernet cable** into my Windows laptop and then share the wireless card to it. This essentially does the same thing, and you may have all the pieces you need.

** You may require a 'crossover' cable if your PS2 isn't transmitting to your PC.

Walmart is where we found a ps2 compatible adaptor. I don't remember the price, but read the back of boxes to make sure it's compatible with the router in the house.
