I remember reading a post somewhere and i cant find it about buying a Usb converter thing from Radio shack for the controller... but after i plug it in how do i configure it? and how should i configure it? i dont wanna mess anything up =P

help me out! >_<

you used to be able to buy a usb>ps controler converter. however since i stopped working there 4yrs ago they had alread discontinued them then. so i'm not sure if they made a new one to sell or not or if you can even find them anywhere. check ebay lol

You can still find them. I ordered one a couple weeks ago that just got in the other day.

I recommend the EMS USB Adapter from levelsix. I originally bought it to hook my DDR pads up to my comp to play DWI, but now it's my ffxi crutch :-) It's plug-and-play for windows, so there's no issue about drivers.

Here are the settings to make it work like it does on the PS2.

Red means go...

theres more to it than just that picture...1st and foremost, make sure you turn the analog on...i spent the better part of days without that lil red light on  Secondly make sure to enable the controller in the ffxi config and the playonline config. and Thridly calibration, the controller and analogs must be calibrated within ffxi and initially from gampads in your control panel. The ffxi calibrations take place under "Directional Control Devices" the box with 3 choices on the upper right hand side. Get in there and calibrate the left analog for movement, right analog for the camera, and i believe the directional pad for menus...Other than that follow the button allignment as pictured...But again, and most importantly, make sure that lil red light is on

Click on Start
Go to the Play online program group
Click on FFXI Configuration
Then click on Gamepad set up

I'm at work now and going off of memory so the names might be a little different than what I listed but that is basically where to find it.

Hellstorm that is by no means a noob question took me FOREVER to figure that out lol

As long as you have good drivers for the PS2 controller type setup it should work fine. Maybe www.lik-sang.com people might have some drivers posted on the forums there. Otherwise the old google search should work...

As for the Xbox360 controller it won't work well with Microsoft Official Drivers. You're going to run into problems for the triggers. However a person from www.redcl0ud.com have posted a solution to this. redcl0ud also released XBCD drivers which are currently the best drivers for Xbox Controller S. Just for future reference if anyone can't find a PS2 USB adapter...there are xbox usb adapters around on ebay for maybe $5 as well. But i'm pretty sure there are many of those adapters around.

I tried the xbox360 controller...it works really well...problem is the directional pad kinda sucks, it seems the sensitivity isn't sesitive enough or the design of the directional pad. So i went back to my controller S since everything felt about right...even though it's bulky and a little heavier...

well other computer controller work as well?

If you are asking: will the configuration tool work with other computer controller pads, or will the game (FFXI) work with computer controller pads? the answer is yes in both cases.

I went out and bought the usb to PS-2 converter, because it was cheap and I remember seeing a bunch of people complaining about the regular PC gamepads being broken within a week or two of having first purchased them.

THe Logitech wireless that Playonline "recommends" has the same controls as the ps2 controller.
I purchased that, plugged it in installed the drivers, and I don't notice any difference whatsoever going back and forth from ps2 to pc on the default setting.. more expensive than the converter.. but it's wireless. ^^
