Due to my girlfriend's patients being worn thin and the pc being slowed down by what she calls "my games", I have to seek an alternate source for putting FF on. I own a PS2 but it has been proven that the older models are defective and faulty, so I was thinking of purchasing an Xbox 360.

Now my question to all of you is: Would you all just stay with your PS2 or buy an Xbox 360 to install FF on and if so why? Help me out!!!

Really depends on what your going to do in the long run. FFXI is better on the xbox360 than ps2, but would you want to spend a few hundred bucks just for FFXI? If you want to buy it and play other games then it might be worth getting. Same can be said if you wanted to buy a PS3.

Go 360. Besides the system itself being more powerful, ffxi itself will run and look better. There's also the issue that if your PS2 HDD eats it, it might be really hard to find a replacement.

If the problem your worried about is the "Disk read error" for PS2 thats easily fixable. Are you interested in other games for 360?

If you have an mp3 player you can sync it to play the game with your favourite music. You can't do that on PS2. ; ;

You can get a PS3 and install your PS2 FFXI discs in it also.

Buy another PC!

I bet you could get one near the price of a 360. If it's a few hundred dollars more expensive, it's still worth it. It also depends on what your girlfriend uses the PC for. If you get really lucky and she only browses the internet/email, you could buy a PC for her that is cheaper than a 360 and copy the hard drive. Lucky in the sense that you won't need to reinstall/download updates. All you'll have to do is uninstall FF from her copied hard drive.

I would only consider buying a 360 if you're planning on more than just FFXI for it.

Well if you already have a 360 then it is 360 handsdown. That version looks better, you have keyboard support (ps2 does as well), you can get the game and all expansions for $19.99 (I have yet to see a PS2 bundle), if the 360 dies you can go get another or at least send it in for repair under warrenty for up to 3 years, if it is the RROD that hinders you (finding another non-slimeline version with HDD supprt could be an issue).

If you don't have a 360... I'd say look at the game line up and see what future and current titles you like. If the games add up then buy the 360. If it is just for FFXI then don't bother.

Also if you plan on ever getting a PS3 just know that you can get the game for the PS2 and it will play on the PS3. The 360 version will still looks better but with the PS3 upscaling ability it would allow the PS2 version to look a little better.

If you ever get HDTV the PS2 version looks horrible on it and you'll really start to notice how damn huge the menus are. Also if you have a widescreen TV, PS2's FFXI widescreen mode doesn't clip out far enough and your characters will still look short and fat.

Well thats what happened to my last PS2 that was running FF 11. One day the HDD crashed and the entire HDD was wiped out, then the disc read error followed soon after that.Bought a new one with the intentions of running FF on it again but never got around to getting a HDD from ebay.

I havent really took a look at the 360's game line up. I see games like Saint's Row,..Blue Dragon and Halo 3 coming out but they aren't appealing to me as of yet.

Another issue that has me a bit sceptical of purchasing the 360 is its monthly fees for online service. lol I heard something about a gold membershio and silver @_@,..silver is free but gold gives you more access to certain online content, something of that nature. I asked a gamestop rep but he didnt seem to sure himself, but the way I figured,...XBox Live membership + FF subscription= a whole lot of money I dont want to spend =( .

But regardless lol,..I due for a next gen console,..considering developers are going to stop making games for the current and outdated consoles.

To play FFXI on the 360 you do not need anything but the silver account. Now if you want to play other games online then you will eventually need a gold membership.

The PS2 version of this game makes NES games appear next-gen. If you have to play this on a console you should get an XBox 360.

Go for the 360, PS2 version is ok but the 360 would be better, and ps2 HDD would be hard to replace, and when you get the 360 you are current with the new systems, and you have more of a choice of new games to play.

Hope everything works out for you

Thanks everyone =) Your suggestions and opinions were a great help to me ^,^V

You guys know how the PS2 HDD is supposed to be so rare? I know of 7 copies in a 10 mile radius of my house. I'm confused as well.

Here are my pro's and cons for 360.

Pro's:

You have a next gen system with future games you may want to play.

You can use Custom Soundtracks.

Graphics upgraded.

XBox live features.

Future XBox live content may be implemented.

Con's:

Disc is required to play the game rather than installing it on the HD.

Long time play could warrant over-heating issues. Best to get a 1 year warranty when you purchase your system, cooling fan as well.

Accomplishment's are featured but are kinda annoying and not worth it.

As far as I know you "need" an Xbox live account as well, although I've heard it's possible to bypass that.

Although the game looks better when you're in populated areas character's load up at a slower pace. May be just me.

Xbox live maintenance can sometimes get in the way when playing, more annoying than a problem.

Depending on your budget the system may be a bit pricey, although the game itself is pretty cheap. (Usually under 20 bucks.)

Xbox 360 comes with a 3 year warranty now and definetly DO NOT get a cooling fan. They cause more problems than helping anything. All you need is an xbox live silver account which is free.

I always hear about slow down time but have only experienced this sometimes during besieged. I switched from PC sometime ago and have been loving it so far.

Negative.

The Xbox 360 3 year warranty is only covered for certain hardware failures (Mainly the red circle of death.), any other problems with the system will not be covered.

Also I should have implied that it's wise to get the cooling fans which are able to hook upon the back of your console rather than the ones which you have to stand your Xbox in a vert position, as far as I know those are the ones which caused problems.

Actually, no, don't listen to Dagget.

If you get 360 avoid the replacement fans for the stock fan. Avoid it like you are trying to avoid Nazi soldiers as a jew during WW2.

They have caused a lot of over-heating problems. This gens 360's are also not as prone to red-death circle (lolbluescreenofdeathv2). The 3 year warranty is pretty much only for the red-death circle too because a lot of time when peoples systems "magically" die, it's user error. (take bad care then blame it on the company. NO FUCKING VERTICAL CONSOLES! Ps2, 360, Ps3)

Also, if you know stuff about computers you can probably replace the internal cooling system with a proper replacement cooling system if you do have over-heating problems. (only thing about 360 is it's sorta loud, not vacuum cleaner loud, but old 1st gen Ps2 loud)

Also, just like Ps3, do not leave your 360 vertical or enclosed in an AV rack, this causes disc problems and over heating and bad air circulation. Do not leave it on the carpet either, you get dust and shit inside of it which is rather annoying to clean out.

Replacing anything inside and what not also voids your warranty, so don't unless you absolutely know what you are doing. (don't do it)
