Hey guys, maybe you can help me out with this. My PS2 has been acting up lately.

What happens is when I put a disc in (be it game, DVD, ps1) I get the "Reading Disc" message at the bottom of the screen for 10-15 minutes. Finally, after that length of time, it'll load the game and I'll be able to play. But I really don't want to wait this 10-15 minutes to play anymore.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks Chasym. I was hoping I wouldn't have to take it apart (read: tools?) but I think I may hafta.

its not that bad taking it apart, ive done it alot for many ps2s, just take your time and follow it closely. When taking off the top shell take it off slowly, the eject ribbon may be attatched or taped to it

Chasym, I have a question about the fix for the PS2, with adjusting the laser with the dial.

I tried with a copy of final fantasy tactics and turned the dial all the way around and it still didn't load. Is it normal to have to turn the dial a few times until it will load?

you just wanna turn the dial one notch at a time, and keep testing the game after each notch. if it doesnt work, return it to its normal notch as the lasers position isnt the problem.

Ok, thanks. I went 1 notch at a time and got squat. Looks like I'll need a new PS2 to get the expansions :'(

Dunno if it'd help any but you can open up the PS2 CD bay, then power off the PS2 (leave the bay open), unplug it and blast a can of air through it. The inside of PS2s accumulate dust really badly, so I tend to clean out the dust semi-yearly, helps a fair bit.

*edit* Oh crap, the site already has this as a listed solution. I guess I should read ahead next time ^^;

Nah Ish, no worries. I've tried mostly everything and I think my Eye is bad, it just doesn't seem to want to work.

It's actually an ongoing PS2 problem. D.R.E.'s, {All Right} despite the turning of the disc, or compressed air douches, it basically means your PS2 is fooked. I've been through 4 of them. If there's a Costco near you simply purchase a new one, place the old one in the box, and return it. I'm 3/3 on that front.
