Okay after several years my PS2 no longer wishes to read disks. My "Last" Option currently is to take it to a repair shop. I have a friend who is willing to sell me his ps2 tho. But trying to switch harddrives doesn't seem to be working, not even with the HDD disk. Does anyone know how to properly do this? Ps2.com or w/e doesn't seem very helpfull. Any help is welcomed.

You can't just take your hard drive out and put it in his? That seems a bit odd.

no it gave me some Error code, and (go to the website/Call this number) went to the wesbite and not telling me anything useful.

Okay, after reading it again, it says i need to reformat it, if this is the case, does this mean I'll lose all my codes and registrations? Will i need to call POL or whoever in order to get all my registration codes back?

The codes are all stored on SE's servers, you won't lose them by reinstalling; you just have to go through all of the updates again. It's the same as re-installing FFXI for PC(I've done that numerous times), you just install everything and sign into POL like you usually do and you're good to go.

well at least i'll play on my xbox ver as i update all those Cds for the next 3 weeks =P

If its just a problem of the ps2 not reading the disc - may be the lens? and if thats the case ebay sells lens repair units.. I dunno but it's worth a shot versus completely scrapping your ps2. They only cost like ten bucks

Nah, it's a reformatting issue. Once a Harddrive is used on one PS2, it can't be used on another one unless you reformat the whole thing and start it fresh. As long as you remember your POL ID and Password, you are fine.

Oh and make sure the Ps2 can read CD-Rs and not just DVDs. You're going to need the HDD utility Disc.

I have the same problem.....and can't play on my ps2 til I can buy a new ps2. Seems that the laser cable is disconnected. Going to ask around to see how much it's going to cost me.

First off...you don't need your ps2 to read discs in order to play FF off the hardrive. I guess if you want to install an expansion though, yeah.

Secondly, if it's not reading the disc, it could be a laser position issue. My PS2 was doing this earlier this year. All I had to do was raise the laser by turning one special little screw a quarter clockwise, easy fix.
