PS2 visuals changed?

I play FFXI on my PS2. I bought the kit with HDD and game around February 2006. I purchased the PS2 in June 2002, shortly after the initial price drop. This latest update seems to have lowered the game's resolution and incresed blurriness in addition to increasing lag in heavy zones like Jugner Forest campaign battles. Has anyone else noticed these symptoms? I'm not inclined to believe the machine can be blamed since it displays FFXII with clean, crisp images (when the laser works). But the change from pre-update to now has been very drastic when using an s-video cable, a TV tuner box, and a 19" LCD monitor.

Any ideas?

No idea, but SE should and I think can probably impliment(SP) resolution choices. Would be great...since I believe A LOT of PS2 games run those close to 1280x1024, the one on the PS2 currently I believe is 800x600. Dunno though, and don't know why it's like this for you. I haven't seen much of a change. Have you had a power outage at all?

Best guess PS2 res is 720x480. PAL version would be slightly smaller.

Graphically PS2 was designed for display on NTSC or PAL television screens.

The 25 fps (NTSC), or 30 fps (PAL), won't stand out, but the Pixels per square inch defiantly will. This is why when we run emulators on the PC they look boxy. But they look fine if you output it to a standard TV.

If it looked sharper on an LCD screen before, (which is high def), I'd be surprised. Other than that I'm pretty sure any game that was developed to be played on a standard television will turn out blurry on an LCD display. I don't have the PS2 options completely memorized, but see if it has any display settings that may help make your PS2 look better on your LCD.

Most ps2 games runs at really low res. Some support p-scan(480p, and some other odd res's like tekken5 or GT4) I think ffxi ps2 res is 640xXXX.

The game has been fine for two years. I used the same monitor, the same PS2, the same cable, and the same tuner box the entire time through several relocations. The only modifications to the PS2 were cosmetic. FFXI looked quite good up until this month's update. It wasn't as good as a PC of course. But now I cannot tolerate staring at the screen for more than 30 minutes, and the lag turns anything with 30 or more people into a crawl.

This is what I'm asking: Did anyone else notice a CHANGE?

PS2 can't generally output those resolutions, much less display them on most standard definition TVs. Very few PS2 games even support 480p (640x480 or 720x480).

Odds are the PS2 version actually runs at 640x480 overlays and 512x512 background.

I'm PC, but my brother is PS2. I haven't heard him complain or even mention his graphics change, least of all out of wack.
