PS2 vs. PC

It is easier to catch Ryugu Titan on a PS2 vs. PC.

Oh, noooonono, I mean more trivial NMs, where you'd have to spot it, ex: hoo mjuu, mee deggi, etc.
I do agree though on AVERAGE, PS2 is more reliable, but both sides have their ups and downs.
I used ps2 for widescan camping VE and LL. Also had a very good track record on stroper chyme vs the gilsellers but it’s a blob so kind of easy to spot. If you have that monster radar on your compass you can press voke before/as something pop on ps2 and claim it with /targetnpc on those one you mention in castle Oz you got a point although you could just look for something with a ridiculously long name or the first letter of the name to make them stand out.

I think you guys have only seen the graphics on crappy TVs, my TV has same graphics as my computer. I'm a ps2 user, and way back when VE dropped the Emporer hairpin, I got the claim about 70% of the time I camped him...

sry dude, no matter how good your tv is, the gfx are not even close to the pc's. heres an example of pc with max setting etc.

One of the big pluses to the pc at higher res are the party/ali-hp/mp doesn't take up the entire rightside of your screen. Now either way the gameplay is the exact same.

I have tried both systems and I prefer the PC version. With a PC, there is more keyboard variety (there might be adapters out there but the one I used was not that great of a keyboard). Although I did purchase a game controller for my PC, which makes it not so wrist cramping when trying to travel around.

Also the PS2 is somewhat limited on parts since the introduction of the PS3. The last time I looked into get a HDD for the PS2, they were somewhat hard to find offline. So if the HDD was to break or be faulty, it might be more of a hassle to try and find a replacement. With a PC, if things break, there are plenty of options to repair the broken part (may not be a cheap thing to do but parts are easier to find). And most PC parts are upgradable. (desktop > laptops because of them being easier to manage if things break and not too much of a threat of a desktop to overheat if left on for a considerable amount of time).

basically... its the same thing..

If you're into how I am with video games:

gameplay > graphics

then its the same thing.. just different screen and system
Agree.

The Dual Shock PS2 controller is the only selling point for PS2 FFXI, imo. It never comes up that PC FFXI is holding FFXI's progress back; PS2 is always the limiting factor for any cool idea. I'm a PS2 FFXI player now, but I've been saving for a new computer and aim to make the change w/in a month hopefully. High res graphics are important to me. Technically yes, gameplay>graphics, but it's still a false dichotomy. A good game needs both.

That doesn't look like max settings to me. Game max settings maybe but you can tweak it so much more. Plus you don't even have more than 10 character models in that SS. That looks to be about 1/2 max if you ask me.

O cool how do you tweak it?

First, what video cards are you using? Can you force a game into AA with your videos cards? How about anisotropic filtering? How much RAM do you have and what is your processors speed? Is it dual core?

I don't know what AA and anisotropic filtering are. I have a nvidia g-force 4 video card, and 512 mb ram, 3200+ AMD Athlon XP Processor. I think its Dual Core.

I always wondered how do people claim fast on the Controller when on the PS2. Or are they just using Keyboard on PS2?

well anyway, that pic is only 1280x1024 (1024x1024)and besieged not every mob loads on the screen when theres 750 people in the zone. either way u can see the diff.

Is spamming a macro really that hard to figure out?

Well that's all poop. Sounds like $700 Dell to me and 1280/1024 res is probably pushing the max on your machine.

I played on PS2 for 2 years. Got to 75, camped NMs, claimed NMs, dymanis, besiged, everything. I recently got a new alienware laptop and i must say... I love the game for PC. The graphics and resolution are what gets me. I've been so used to the crappy what 800x640 res that the ps2 offers, that playing at 1440x900 seems like i'm playing a new game.

The only thing i didn't like about the PC version was the controlls. Indeed, FFXI was designed to play on the PS2 first and it is apparent. Using a controller is so much more comfortable. So i spent $11 and bought a PS2 controller/USB adaptor at Radio Shack. Simple as that. Now there is really no reason to go back to the PS2.

As for lagging and what not. I've noticed that on my PC i lag in different areas than where my PS2 lagged. I think it's because on the PS2 version it doesn't lag as much in certain areas because it won't load up the characters/mobs as fast, and because it's at such a low res. I thought when i switched to a S-video cable that the graphics and text were so much more clear... wow PC blew my mind.

Also, being able to use the windower and Fraps is great, but so is being able to sit back in your chair and play with surround sound...

Surround sound in this game doesn't impress me much. 7.1 and the only benefit is knowing that someone behind you is synthing something. Big fucking deal right... Now when I play Halo 2 on Xbox 360 or GR:AW it's great to hear someone stepping up in your blind area. I can't fucking wait till 360 gets some of the good shooters that are in production... that is going to be some sick shit. Rainbow Six on 360. Yes please.

nevermind

PS2 has such a limited resolution. I couldn't stand it.
