Well... I havent been able to find anything absolutely official, but this seems to be the real deal now. My friend, who works at a local Game Stop, apparently had a rep. call their store to let them know some data about the upcoming releases. PS3 is going to have some extra stuff on it, and the price will be 500 at release, and FFVII will be getting a remake as a title release. I figure they wouldn't be telling game stores unless it was official... so that's my reasoning for believing what has been flung around as a rumor for so long.

Here's hoping.

Thoughts?

SE has repeatidly said that they are not going to remake FF7, and that the movie they showed was only a tech demo designed to show off the power of the PS3. Price thing I'd buy though. I'm going to get one for more than just next-gen games. I'd love to have a blue-ray DVD player.

PSP AT $399?
Financial analysts at Merrill Lynch Japan are estimating that Sony's PS3 will debut for $399 - $100 more than teh belived retail price of the Xbox360. Merrill Lynch calculates the cost of the PS3 to be around $490, which would add up to a $1.8 billion loss for its first year if Sony's prediction of selling 14 million units comes true.

they're only estimating though /cry

Sorry Sanoske, but that's total BS. (At least, the FFVII part is.) At E3, there was a neato FFVII video, but it was a technical demo. SE said they won't remake it since the current version would still be playable on PS3.

Besides, what's the point of having an RPG, which heavily relies on story, in which you already know what's gonna happen? Pretty graphics? So what? SE has milked/is milking FFVII enough anyways. They should focus on making the main FF series truly great again, not making pointless spinoffs and such. IMO.

They will have a hard time if it's going to run at that price considering you (if you choose to) will be only paying $350 max for the Xbox360. Unlike the Xbox Vs. PS2 the 360 will definatly have a lot more games and a lot more in it's armory against the PS3 than I think they are expecting. They have some quality developers and companies behind them this time. The blue ray technology is also a concern because that stuff is expensive. I think in the latest issue of GI they priced games being made for around/over $100 if they have to use blue ray tech the way they currently are. Sony better wise up and play it smart or they could loose big in this battle if my sources are correct in full or even half. Then again sony is a quality company and have pulled hings off in the past so might as well wait and see as atm it's all just speculation and hear say.

Blue ray DVD's are DVD's made using a blue laser. Blue light has a smaller wavelength than red light, so it takes physically less space to write the same amount of information, so you can fit a lot more information on a disk the same size. Blue ray DVD's are supposed to hold 40-50 gig of data, as opposed to the ~9 gig of current dual-layer dvd's. Also, normal DVD players won't be able to read blue-ray DVD's, since the laser beam reading the information is so much bigger than the one used to write the information it'd read more than it's supposed to.

Basically it's just the next generation of DVD's.

I'd rather see a remake of an excellent game than a brand new shitty game. Plus, I'm probably not the only one to every play a game all over again, especially FF7.

Exactly... that why Im hoping for it. Honestly, I would love to see FFVII in new badass graphics. Plus, they would also be able to have things like voices... which I think would be amazing.

I'm fine with waiting till the price drops.

Of course, Sony has said that they plan to release the PS3 at about $300, but it seems that nobody is listening to Sony anymore... :D

Rampant speculation on all sides, massive amounts of misinformation flying around, and if we all just wait a month or so we should get a better idea of what's going on. Tokyo showing and all that.

actualy, a few years back, they were gonna redo VII, VIII, and IX for the PS2. But that project stalled out, as resourses were shifted to FFX-2, FFIX, and FF XII.

And also, they have never said they WONT remake the games, just never said they are.

And even if they did say they wont, doenst mean anything. After MSG1 was made, they said they werent making a MGS2, and that Kojima retired. Well, they made MGS2, and Kojima directed it. Then they said the same thing about MGS3. Well, Once again, we got the game, done by Kojima. They have of course said the same thing about a MGS4 or whatever it'll be called, but thanks to the ending of MGS2, there will be a 4th MGS.

I really dont think there is any well to know if they are going to remake ffvii or not. But the evidence is starting to add up...so im just going to keep my fingers crossed. Sony is way to good at keeping all of their stuff hidden, maybe we should hire the urban ninja to break into their main headquarters and steal all the info we need. Ill pitch in 5$ anyone else?

During Square Enix's own little game-show, they had a small theater. Inside the theater was crammed full of japanese fanboys and media fanboys alike.

Planned on the screening were trailers for FF12, Kingdom Hearts 2, Dragon Quest 8, Final Fantasy Advent Children, Final Fantasy 7: Dirge of Cerebus and a slew of other SE titles like Front Mission Online & whatnot.

However, the first trailer shown was the same tech demo square released at E3 to 'showcase the PS3 power'

Interestingly enough, no one came out & said that they were showing the tech demo just for fun. No one said a word. None of the SE employee's would share why that was run first, before anything else.

A subtle hint, perhaps?

Maybe Sony realized: "HAY! People will buy PS3, mounds of people, HILLS of people, if we have FF7 at launch." & then told SE who *still* hasn't recovered from the shock of Final Fantasy: Spirits Within and losing one of their entire offices of staff due to budge cuts, to get this damn game made.

It's a long shot, but in the eyes of an already greedy industry this could potentially be bigger than the launch of Halo 2 in Sony's eyes. (well, maybe not *THAT* big, but it'll get thousands of people to buy the system, that's ferdamnsure.)

nothing will ever be as overhyped as halo 2 unless they release a pill that gives you an instant orgasm or something...
