So far Sony is the only one showing off real next generation capabilities. The Explosion dynamics arn't too bad. Nothing compared to how the system can handle some serious geometry and still run like that. Kill Zone is what i'm waiting to play, cause it's the first game i ever seen that looks like a full blown FMV, except it's not a video it's all done in real time 3D.
After reading about Kill Zone on PS3 i was convinced that what they show is actually how the game plays. When i show the clip to friends they think what they see in the video is not even possible.
-Smoke Particles looks totally baked.
-Textures appear to be high rez.
-Motion Blurr Never seen it done properly in real time playback until now.
-High Geometry, Looking at images of the ingame content the tires on that vehicle alone is covered in pegs, all made up of actaully poly surfacing and not textures and bump mapping, and still the system is handling other attributes that would cause a modern PC to choke.
-Bump mapping in games looks better than ever here. Honestly.
I feel it's because of Kill Zone, Microsoft has to show us TV commercials that lie about what the game actually looks like, and the commercials that do show us what the game looks like, those commercials usually show us people with their jaw dropped for most of the scene.
As we all know it's not the graphics that deliver all greatness in video games. But looks do play a role in the experience of gaming. And our good friend Sony has been pretty damn good at delivering great games. Things arn't looking too good for Microsoft, i'd like to see the 360 put up an amazing battle this time around, so in 5 more years we can have a video game system that is so awsome it would be almost illeagal.
