Find out what features are included in PS3 system software update 2.10.

An update to the PS3 system software was released on December 18, 2007. If you update your PS3 system, the system software version will be 2.10 and the following features will be updated. In order to download PS3 system software version 2.10, you will need a minimum 120Mb of free space on either the PS3 Hard Disk Drive (System Update) or on removable storage media (PC Update).

The PLAYSTATION 3 system software version 2.10 update includes the following:

* Voice Changer

The Voice Changer feature has been added to voice / video chat. Visit the Voice Changer guide in Help & Support under PS3 at eu.playstation.com for more details.

Using this feature, you can change the tone of a voice that is input from an audio device such as a microphone. High and low-pitched tones can each be adjusted to five preset levels. You can vary the tone when using voice / video chat under Friends.

Other new or revised features in version 2.10

Music

* You can now select [Type 3] as an option under Settings > [Music Settings] > [Bitmapping]. This bitmapping process was developed specifically for the PS3TM system to enhance audio playback.

Video

* DivX and VC-1 (WMV) have been added to the types of files that can be played. *
* Blu-ray Disc Profile 1.1 is now supported. **
* [BD Data Utility] has been added. ***

*
- To play VC-1 (WMV) format files, you must go to Settings > [System Settings] and set [Enable WMA Playback].
- Copyright-protected files or files that were encoded by using DivX 3.11 cannot be played. - Files that are 2GB or more cannot be played.
** You may now be able to use several additional features such as playback of two videos at the same time with Profile 1.1-compatible Blu-ray Discs. The available features vary depending on the disc.
*** The management data that is used by the Blu-ray Disc is saved.

Note:

* This system software update includes all features contained in previous versions.
* The new system software will preserve any settings previously made to the PLAYSTATION 3. Depending on the software title, you may not be able to play without first updating the PS3 system software.
* Do not perform updates using any data other than the official update data provided by Sony Computer Entertainment over a network or on disc media, and do not perform updates by methods other than those described in the product documentation or in this site. If an update is performed using data from another source, by another method, or with a PS3 system that has been altered or modified in any way, the PS3 system may not operate properly and may not be able to install the official update data. Any of these actions may void the PS3 system warranty and affect your ability to obtain warranty services and repair services from Sony Computer Entertainment

I just downloaded the update and to my amazement my 80gig PS3 now accepts WotG!

Going through the FFXI updates now, everything is going smooth so far. I guess I can finally put my PS2 to rest now.

How does the Remote Play option work? The PS1 games on PSP would be a big selling point (and no, not the homebrew way).

Just more ways to entertain myself at work. :D

The only reason I can imagine they aren't advertising it is to not hurt there PSN game d/l's but if that truly were the case they wouldn't add that feature to begin with. I do dislike that they add these "stealth" updates. They should just be upfront with all the features an update provides.

I'm not sure if it was there before, but the web browser now has MicroTrend protection.

You set your PS3 into "remote play" mode when you go out or whatever, after syncing your PSP to it so it knows how to find it. Then you just dial in to the remote play function on your PSP anywhere you have a wireless internet connection bam, your PS3 on your PSP.

Ah. Largely useless to me, then. I was hoping it would copy the game to the memory stick so I could play it on the bus, etc. Not a bad feature by any means, but not what I was hoping it meant.

Going off what Fire said, yes. So you could, theoretically, leave your copy of castlevania in your PS3, take your PSP with you somewhere, and play castlevania from anywhere you had wireless access.

I'll try it later. Just hope that it works with Soul Reaver, its my only PS1 game not packed in a box lol.

With fully functioning PS1 compatibility and divx support, I'm even more confused as to whether I should get a PSP or GP2X F-200. Screw Sony, man.

Update on Remote Play-ing PS1 games. Yes, you can play them on a normal PSP (got mine back in Aug-ish '04). It may require downloading the 3.80 firmware, since I couldn't connect without it.

The only problem I can see is the difference between the button layout on a Dualshock and the PSP. You can change the button setup to use select like a shift key to access the missing buttons, but I wouldn't want to play an action game or a game that uses the 2nd stick, might be too slow to react well.

On the other hand, slower paced games like RPG's shouldn't be any trouble at all. Legend of Dragoon, here I come.

P.S.

Dear Sony,
Sequel, please?

aww, I was kinda hoping it'd download the game onto my memory stick too :P but ah well, that's pretty sweet.

Edit: finally got my firmware on PSP updated so I could do this :P it's pretty fun. I enjoy being able to play all my PSone games on my PSP but it's a bit laggy here and there cause of the having to go over the PS3.. I still want to be able to download games onto my computer and upload them onto my PSP whenever I feel like playing them.. just leaving saved files on. The way it was with the haxed way of PSPing :P but *shrugs* ah well.
