PS3 is hurting!

According to gamefaqs, it's true! Hmmm.... maybe I should try and get a cheap PSP. If nothing else, it makes it the ultimate media center with a blue ray drive, a ton of ripped movies and an easy way to copy the movies onto a portable player.

PS: Another thing PS3 has over Xbox, you have to get Xbox special overpriced harddrives but PS3 can use whatever things you plug in. Hell a PS3 will use a Xbox live camera for PSN video chat.

What does it have to do with the video games;; that is still the consoles main purpose;;

Gaming is the consoles purpose, but as long as you have a blu-ray player, it's worth watching blu-ray movies. As long as you can plug in a USB hard drive, it's worth ripping movies into the MP4 and as long as you have ripped MP4 movies, it's worth getting a PSP to have a portable DVD player that will read ripped data in a setup that doesn't even require me turning on my PC.

Blue ray is not the next step in movies or home movie players;; tho sony tries hard. HD movies offer quality just as good. The blue rays storage space is impressive for gaming, if sony ever fully uses it. But the movie excuse is lame;; I mean how much better can a video get then the actual quality it was filmed in;; blue ray is nice but not for movies. Please use its potential on games sony;; as for portable dvd player with your psp, good for you and others into it. I for one don't like watching dvds on a 4 inch screen. I prefer the entertainment center I funded in my living room. And your argument on 360s hard drive.. Hhhhuh... you pay $600 for a ps3, which is a good movie player, and bad game console (atm as I said earlier I think sony will catch up eventually) that you can plug things into, since you mentioned that's your thing. Why not spend $200 more and get a pc far superior to ps3;; don't say blue ray movies again lol. And.... xbox is $400(with hard drive) which is great game console atm, and meh just a dvd player. Unless your into HD video and go for the HDplayer(additional$200) which would make it equal movie experience to ps3 and equal price. But superior game console atm lol. I do hope sony proves blue rays worth to gaming.

Once the core system drops to 200 I'll probably pick up a 360 to play Dead Rising and maybe Blue Dragon if I've got no other RPGs to play at that point. I'd say GoW too but I heard it's like a 6 hour single player, and I wouldn't get Gold so it wouldn't seem useful. Maybe Halo 3 would have a decent enough single player mission to justify itself. Since right now the only game I really want for Xbox 360 that isn't going to be on PS3 by May is Dead Rising, I don't think it's worth it.

And honestly don't think HD DVD attachment is as good as the Blu Ray built in, cause Xbox doesn't support HDMI and HD DVD only has 2 movies I want, Batman Begins and King Kong... and the format probably will die out.

Your last line is what this whole next gen era is about. Blue ray dvds won't make hd die out. But if sony can prove blue rays worth to gaming then they succeed. And hd will die out from then on. As it stands now some ps3 games in future almost hit limit in space on blue ray disk, but that's only because developers don't understand the technology fully yet and can't compress and render properly. That's what I was getting at earlier tho. If/when sony shows true power of blueray in a game, they will take over this gen. But its just an if, cell processing could be just to complex for gaming as of yet;; but I understand you fire, and this is no flame ;p I like both consoles potential

Blu-Ray is already winning out over HD-DVD, and the shift to HD hasn't even started. It costs almost exactly the same to produce a Blu-Ray disc as it does a HD-DVD, and you get about 60% more information onto a Blu-Ray. Movie companies and retailers are already behind Blu-Ray, it's going to win out. The PS3 may help, but even without it, Blu-Ray would win out.

Explain please why you need a blue rays extra space on a movie? It fails for movies. And ps3 is the only reason ppl buy blue rays . Compare the sales. I'm no fool buy a blue ray dvd player for $999 yyyyyeeeah right. And again ps3 is the fuel to blueray. Which is no better then hddvd. It is incredible for games tho. If they ever use it right;; I hope they do tho;;

Watch a movie on regular, and then on HD. There is a huge difference, especialy on high end TVs. But even without, you can see it. The more storage space, the more information you can put on it, the clearer the picture. When HDTVs come down in price in the next few years, there will be much more demand for HD movies. That hasn't even happened yet, and HD-DVD is almost dead.

Blu ray came out about 9 months before PS3, and they were consistently sold out of unit at bay area retailers.

The reason blu ray is better than HDDVD is because Sony and Samsung are delivering a product that has more support in the movie business. A lot of this has to do with the fact that Sony owns tons of movie companies.

Yeah, that too. Everything from Sony Pictures or affiliates will be on Blu-Ray.

My friend told me that if you don't have an HDtv, that a PS3 will downscale the graphics down to close to PS2 levels. Can anyone(who will answer clearly without dodging around) answer this for me? If it's true, that'd be a serious reason to not get a PS3, since you'd be paying more for less than with a 360.

not only do you need a HD tv. It needs to have HDMI port. And the HDMI cable alone is a good 100 buck.

Oh sweeeet jesus i hope you are kidding. Look at the fucking market. BLu-rays are out selling HD like 4 to 1. Blu rat is dominating. And re-read the thread. The whole BLu-ray v. HD was already run into the ground. Look at ALL major outlets, and even the release and soon to be released lists. Blu-ray has BIG hollywood, multi-million dollar movies coming soon, where HD does not even have on the list of movies w/o a date. HD sucks. Blu-ray is MUCH better, along with blu ray players.

It does not downsize the image in any way. and its 69$ for the PS3 HDMI cable here, 40$ for the knockoff that are just as good. And that CND.

Just to clarify.
People who are saying which system is better than the other is pointless. Its your opinion and that means jack shit.

Edit: In reference to this~
Man I just found this thread;; and am 50something pages late. Could have ended this long ago. Lets talk now for a sec. Now; ps3 is lame. 360; is on top in every way, graphics, gameplay and EVEN diverse games.(not just fps) now given it had a year headstart I don't just bash ps3. Ps3 I am sure will break through the slump and make something worth buying. Not just graphic showcases that are less then par and horrible games overall like they have so far.

HDMI runs 1080p... composite (rgb) run 720p...

NEVER get monster HDMI cables... overpriceddddddddddddddddd

If you can, get a HDMI > DVI + audio adapter, cuz DVI cables are cheapppp and they allow 1080p. All HDMI does is allow the audio to go through as well...

Component cables support up to 1080p, as evidenced by Xbox 360... supporting 1080p in the dashboard... without any HDMI capabilities whatsoever.

Or, failing that, they can at least make it to 1080i with no problems. They don't max out at 720p.

so i will just let the movie issue go, i can give you that. and back to what consoles are made for.. GAMES. ps3 again is real good movie player, bad game console;; and agaaaain i wont say in future they cant catch up in terms of games. since i own one i hope they do lol
