PS3 is hurting!

GT HD was originally annoucned to be a completely barebones game, like 2 tracks and 5 cars. In order to "unlock" additional tracks, cars, and anything else you'd want in the game would cost you around $1-$2 per item. Looking at the entire list of what they offered, the complete game would cost around $1,000.

Then I'd have called it a rip off and never touched it. It's not like every wii owner buys off the VC.

Oh, and on Ebay, most of the games that I would want are still over $20 for the original cartridge, and that's used. The new ones are still going for 40-50. The only games that would be cheaper are the really shitty games that no one is buying on the VC anyways. Rom's still don't always work, definitely don't work as well as the actual game, and not all games/consoles can even be emulated. You want to use Rom's, fine, whatever; people are willing to pay for the convenience, that doesn't make it overpriced to anyone but you.

I bought the original Mario, mario 3, both NES zelda games, original metroid, original final fantasy and the captain planet game for 2-3 dollars each. Maybe there's a FEW expensive cartridges out there that would be cheaper to buy on VC, I don't know, there was nothing out there I wanted and couldn't get for 3 bucks. However.. there's TONS of games out there VC doesn't have, and all the ones VC does have been out in cheap cartridges since before gamecube. The question being... if mario bros for 5 dollars is to you, a good deal, a value, worth your money... why did you wait til Wii came out to get it?

If they just lowered the NES games to 2 dollars, the SNES games to 4 and the N64 to 5... they'd be cheaper to buy than the media and therefore legally the best alternative. I'm sure they will lower the price, once people stop paying the crazy price.

So the sony rip-off is inconsequential since you wouldn't play it, but the nintendo "rip-off" is HUGE for the exact same reason?

I "waited to buy it" because I already had the rom for some of the games, others no rom existed(there is no turbo graphix 16 emulator, for example and bonk's adventure = awesome). I didn't want to go through the hassle of trying to find the console and the cartridge and then hope they would work. Only the NES cartridges are saving you any real money on the VC, and most people are shooting for the SNES or higher games; which the VC actually saves you money on.

The VC library is small because they've only been adding 4 games a week from 6 consoles. It's getting better, but that takes time; bitch more about how they're not releasing 100 games a day.

I enjoy the economical side of it. looking at consoles strengths and weaknesses and predicting how well it will do and such. Not that it is much better than screaming "ZOMG 360 OWNS PoS3!!!! lolz!!!", as i suppose i still involve myself with the "console wars", but at least i'm entertained and not retarded like alot of fanboys lol.

Although that said at the moment i really wouldn't touch the PS3 with a barge pole given it's price and games and such. I fully admit that at some point i'll probably end up getting one when it has had a serious price drop and some decent games come out, but as it is at the moment you'd have to pay me £500 not the other way around.

Yeah I'll admit it can be fun comparing specs of the systems like some magazines do or seeing how well they sell and whether or not how long they can stay in business. But flaming another console and the people that play it when it practicly does the same thing (like play games for instance?) gets annoying. Usually I just ignore it all but I first got annoyed by it when a clerk at EBgames(fanboy) made a smart remark to my brother about the PS3 when he asked what the launch dates were for a certain list of games that we wanted. If you want to flame about a console in your personal time/life thats fine but don't take your anti-ps3 opinions out on the customers that do have an interest in it. Its our money, don't tell us how to spend it. It wasn't anything that serious but it was enough to get me aggervated. This all happened right around november just before the ps3 was released. We still don't have a ps3 today due to money issues but we still intend on getting one eventually. We're going to split the total cost of the system, games, controller ect..so it isn't as expensive for either of us.

If the only reason you're going to post is to say "I don't care about console wars, I just buy all 3," then just don't bother posting. It's thread crapping, especially when actual discussions about comparisons of the consoles are going; no one cares that you don't want to make a decision and have no opinion. You contribute absolutely nothing to the thread, so just don't post.

They're both rip offs and I'd use neither. I also wouldn't suggest people avoid wii because their downloadable content is too expensive. Just buy the console, buy the games you want and avoid the VC like a plague, maybe when people stop buying they'll lower the prices.

If you've already got the rom the "illegal" way than standing on a moral high-ground in terms of emulators seems rather silly.

Why would I bitch? Playstation store is terrible. They add 2 new PS1 game to be downloadable once a month and you can only play them off the PSP. However, if I had a PSP I'd admit it's a fair deal. 5 dollars for a PS1 game is about right, they're around the same level as N64.

Their selection is a joke though. I mean.... a major joke, they make VC look great.

At least there is original content though to download to play on PS3... eagerly awaiting Calling all Cars from David Jaffe(comes out today I hope). The games are worth the price if they're the kind of games you like... and they're built specifically for the PS3.

And I orginally wasn't going to post but someone made a good point and I just wanted to add my 2 cents to it. One person's opinion isn't going to stop me from posting here, just like my "3 consoles is better" opinion isn't going to stop all the ps3 bashing. I just felt like posting it.

When I'm replacing my "illegal" games with legit copies, I can't see how I couldn't take a "moral high ground." You're still avoiding the actual points I make to focus on a blip I threw in; I'm willing to buy the legit games now that I don't have to deal with owning/finding/storing all of the consoles and games, even more so because it's cheaper to buy the VC version for most of the games I want to play. The only reason why I sold my SNES and all my games was because it was a pain to bring it out when I wanted to play a game and then have to store it again when I was done, now I don't have to.

So does mine, but I'm talking about floor space and power outlet space. Unless I wanted to string cables everywhere it'd be a pain to walk.

If that's an issue I suggest you get a TV stand that's setup to support a lot of devices.

This is what I use, it costs $20 at radioshack. i could fit a PS3, Wii, xbox360, and Snes easily under there... I mean yeah... start talking about having NES/SNES/N64, it'll start to get crowded, but with 4 side shelfs and a space between the shelf and floor it's not a big deal. Take a look at the top right shelf, fit my PC on there, plus a USB harddrive that's in plugin range of my PC and PS3.

But it is true that some people are aesthetically speaking, minimalists, in terms of wanting less possessions while wanting the same functionality. Of course... I don't see where that really changes anything if I've got all the NES/SNES/N64 emulators I want running off PS3, the actual machines don't need to be connected to the PS3... or even exist, from a legal standpoint, I can own the cartridges and not the system.

No TG-16 emulators?

(note that emulators are legal, ROMs aren't, so that link is valid)

By the way, Fire

FF1 going for $15-20, the SNES carts still run for $30-50+.

Chrono Trigger still fetches $50+.

Secret of Mana hovering around $20-30.

http://search.ebay.com/search/search.dll?from=R40&satitle=mario+64

Mario 64 going for $20+. Mario 64 + N64 hardware is like $90+.

Zelda: OoT for $25?

So.. er... what was that about $5 cartridges and $10 hardware? The Mario 64 VC I got for $10 was a bargain, likewise OoT (though I haven't bought it yet). When those rare SNES games start popping up they'll be steals.

Semi-Off Topic: I haven't been keeping up on the Playstation store, I remember them announcing they'd have it to download PS1 games for the PSP. What games do they have out for it already? I don't need a PS3 to download and put the game on the PSP right? Computer's fine? :P I really wish I had kept up with this. Did they announce what any new games would come for it?

Quick Tagrineth, run to gamestop to get a 600 dollar deal of a lifetime!!!

I guess I just found the deal of a lifetime with my NES cartridges, dunno?

I believe you need to be within wireless range of a PS3 to do the uplink, doesn't mean you need to actually own the PS3.

http://www.us.playstation.com/PS3/Store shows what's up for the PSN store at the moment. Of course that's just the US store and PS3 can access all the other regions.(if you don't mind your games in Japanese).

Hey Fire,

I posted search links to show several auctions, many of which already have bids, so you could see my conclusions about the prices and see where I drew them from.

You posted one single auction which is overpriced, and has no bids. Using my method you'd find that the average ebay price for PS3 is about $100 below retail - around $400 for the 20GB and around $500 for the 60GB. All the auctions asking for more have 0 bids.

But of course, I'm sure you didn't check my links, since you already knew for sure that I must've picked 0 bid overpriced auctions for all of them to skew my point. OWAIT

Much love,

I see, thanks :P now to go bother my cousin. (well as soon as there's something worth getting)

Tag, honestly I guess if those cartridges are selling more than the prices shot up lately. Strangely I'd have figured they'd shoot down with people buying Virtual Console titles.

No, those cartridge have always been valuable. Believe me, I've wanted to buy FF2US and Secret of Mana for a long time and wished the price would come down to a reasonable level. You've just never paid attention. ;)

Try a used game store. Every city has one somewhere, they'll be in the phone book.

There's one in winnipeg, its just this little owner-operated store with wall to wall of old games, NES, SNES, PS1, N64, ect. All used NES/SNES games are 10$CND, and he has a few consoles (refurbished that he guarentees work) for about 40$ with two controllers and all the cords.

The web is for buying new stuff, or colectables. Look in your phonebook for way better deals
