PS3 is hurting!

Won't reduce cost, except to manufacture... and if you get this version now, you can sell your PS2, your controllers and memory cards... and take up less room by having 1 system to play both sets of games. I'm sure though firmware updates will cover most of the PS2 games eventually. There's a big one coming in March I understand.

OK, i have been a sony man for many years. perhaps even bordering on fanboyism. simply said i didn't see the n64 or gamecube to have any real merit or reason to buy it. i didn't think halo was "all that," maybe because shooters aren't my genre. (being military myself.... little things bother me about shooters.) since i moved in with my new housemates i have played every worthwhile xbox or gamecube game worth playing, and i have been up to date on the ps2 all along. literally, we have thousands of games in this house. i now consider myself to be a well rounded opinion on the previous consoles. i have had ample chance to play everything of note and most things not of note on the new consoles.

I'm going to say this now. and it will shock some of you, and some of you will cry, and scream and deny it with all your hearts.

The only console of this generation worth getting at this time is the 360.

Until wii or ps3 have a SYSTEM MAKING GAME EXCLUSIVE out, neither is worth buying. no, not even the wii. no. and anyone who argues one game can't make a console, go back in time and try and think of a good xbox game that was pre halo. you can't cause there wasn't. halo wasn't either, but that's personal preferance.

But wait.... wait wait wait.... if you add the prices of all of these consoles up... you can buy a pretty decent computer. this is my recommendation at present.

Now, i, personally am of the opinion that the ps2 simply has better games than the ps3, and the wii and beats pretty much any game other than GoW on the 360. A lesson hard learned.. or yet to be learned by these companies is that no matter how much more fantabulous your console is, if the games blow, the console does. point and case gamecube. if the 360 had more than GoW and the wii had done it's part and put out ONE game i would justify upgrading from my game cube for the ps3 would already be buried in the desert somewhere.

Without getting in to a pissing match about who's console is better and everything i do want to say that most of us (the gaming market) could give a shit about Hi-Def. Yea, it's great don't get me wrong. Your average gamer still doesn't have a TV that can support it. That being said the PS3 is proof positive Sony didn't learn the lesson they should have with the release of the PS2, if anything they've taken two steps backwards from their previous console success.

If i were to make a choice right now it'd be Wii all the way. I'm partial to nintendo titles (lolchildhood), moreover i can't manage watching a commercial for it without envying the actors. The Wii just makes me want it without nintendo working hard for me to come to the conclusion it's going to be worth my money as it would get used for more then 2-3 'system making' exclusives which are basicly the same old bullshit with better graphics.

Sony's grasping at straws. Everyone with a clear head knows it. I feel for those of you who bought one this early. $600 toaster for at least the next few months and then you get ... what? a handful of games to breeze through with no real innovation? Have at it. As is being made apparent it's really not what people are looking for.

im with blackchaos, I was a big sony fan up until the point they totally gave the cold shoulder to people who purchased the HDD and dropped all support for it, i was bitter at that point but still liked ps2. i owned an xbox and will admit i paid for a system JUST for halo and halo 2. there were no other games i really liked for it besides ninja gaiden.
i preferred PS2 over all but played xbox more because of halo 2 online.
when current gen came out, I only wanted the 360 for halo 3.
But that quickly changed when i saw many trailers of what was to come and i now have many reasons to own a 360 and love it, I love the live system, its so simple and easy to use and they are always making it better.
Marketplace is a dream, tho i dont agree with paying money/MSpoints for fuckin pictures.
The media center connection is awesome as well, i love watching movies ive downloaded on my PC from a stream (which after i modded my xbox 1 was the main reason i used it besides halo).
Gears was awesome, But i admit was not AMAZING as most have said. Its up to par with halo but i will still love halo till the day i die, its like football night with the guys for other people, for me. I love gettin together with friends, linking up and going to town on some kids.
Crackdown just came out, but i beat the game before it hit store shelves lol, And i STILL play it. That game is crack. literally. Boring lackluster story but fun as hell gameplay.
Dead rising....can i say too much replayability?(tho the replayability is forced on you if you want everything due to one save spot and limited time to get missions done.)
Oblivion...my first game to 1000 points and i still am sure i have not seen the whole world.
Theres other games, and sure not all of them are exclusives but they were other perks for me buying the system, when at first all i had was halo 2 to play for awhile.
i look at PS3 and i wonder what happened, it doesnt have the same feel i had with ps2, no good games out right now and i didnt really HUZZAH! for resistance, and every good game ive seen listed with the exception of FF13 is coming to 360, (MGS4 is supposed to hit 360 a few months after ps3,tho i dont like MGS series).
as of right now, 360 is where its at. And i do not see me owning a ps3 for a long long time, Ill own a wii long before then.

Edit: i also wanna add that the 360's achievement system adds so much to the playability of games, and its an awesome idea. Games i would never play get play time from me because i wanna unlock some achievements. Most game review sites say when they go home to play a game, its always a rush to see whos taking home the 360 versions because of the achievements. That system has breathed life into games that may have never seen the light of day, and makes playing most games even longer than you would have before, usually id beat a game and be done with it. Now i complete a game and stick around to earn all the extra achievements which usually takes longer than the game did. I LOVE achievements.

Pardon the slight derail but i still don't see exactly why people rave about Halo. It brought nothing to the table that haden't already been done and in alot of respects much better than Halo managed both times around. Don't get me wrong i like the games but not enough to buy either of them, the game content doesn't warrant the expendature over numerous other titles that are now bargain bin and much more entertaining and the online content is lacking by comparison to many console games and almost every PC game on the market in the last decade or better.

I'm not trying to bash the game or people who dig it i just don't understand what all the hoopla is about with regards to the Halo line. It's nothing new, the only thing that made the game what it is/was was the overhyping of it.

honestly, no one i know who plays likes it cause of the hype. I was introduced to halo LONG after it came out, I went to a halo party and had no idea what that was, and i was thrown into the game and asked to join a team, And that enviroment was fun as hell, while i of course sucked at the game at that time and died alot, i loved how it was played and the strats were being yelled out. It took what i knew about shooters that was fun, and made it much more fun than i could imagine. It was after that day that me and my friends got into halo hardcore and had our own halo parties, camped outside for halo 2 and have been playing it ever since. while ive taken months off from halo 2 alot, we always come back to it and play almost every night. It wasnt the hype, it was the experience and it was amazing.

The reason why Halo is as good as it is, is because it had perfected the Console FPS Control Scheme. Besides that, it's fairly generic in gameplay.

That's kinda my point. It was amazing back with Goldeneye, Doom, CS, TS, etc, etc there's not much of a difference in the mechanics of the experience with Halo as compared to any other shooter before or since. That's kinda what confuses me, but i've been playing damn near every shooter i've seen since doom looking for a better fix so iono .. if Halo was your introduction to shooters i can definately see going nuts for it but otherwise it just seems kinda off to me on a personal level.

wasnt my introduction to shooters at all, ive been playin shooters since doom myself, even got the live arcade version for nostalgia sake. but for me, halo is the most fun.

Fair enough, again pardon the derail and whatnot. It's just nice to hear a little something more than 'omfg .. it's ... just because it's Halo therefore badass.' :)

I don't know where you got the idea that Metal Gear Solid was coming out with an Xbox port, but I've never heard that and doesn't sound particularly likely to me. I've sure you can link to some blog though where some guy claims it's coming to 360, just like rumors of ff13, white knight and anything else.

About Kh3 coming to the PS3 i believe thats very likely. The team behind KH 1 and 2 are the ones behind Final Fantasy Versus XIII, none of them as fas as I know when to Microsoft, and since they are currently making a FF game exclusively for the PS3, it stands to reason that KH3 will be PS3 only as well.

this guy gets inside info all the time and has been held credible since pretty much all of it has come true after he said it, Dont have time to check for the exact MGS topic since im leaving for a concert in a minute, but its on there

So a rumor web page basically. Versus the series creator saying it was an exclusive.

Deals can fall through. Theres a big tirade going around about EA being unhappy with the PS3 currently. Wouldn't be suprised if it's bad enough that they break off exclusivity for some titles.

Right and I heard from my friend's girlfriend's cousin that Epic Games is pissed off at Microsoft and is going to make Gears of War 2 as a PS3 exclusive. I heard it somewhere so it must be true!

Sega swore up and down for months that VF5 was going to be a PS3 exclusive.

They were doing worse a year ago than PS3 is doing now, and without any competition at all.

Staying an exclusive in Japan where the series is actually appreciated. By the time it's released there will be more PS3s sold anyway, as well as the fact that Metal Gear Solid is a system seller and Virtua Fighter isn't, so they can afford to stay exclusive, considering people will buy the system to play their game.

360 sold 250k January 2006 in America while dealing with massive supply shortages (IIRC, they weren't staying on store shelves until April/May 06) and the PS3 sold 244k in the US January 07 with retailers having plenty of stock. Source: http://forum.pcvsconsole.com/viewthread.php?tid=11067

PS3 has already surpassed the 360 in Japan (not that it was a shock) but sales are cresting at ~20k/week with the Wii selling 60-70k/week. The demand simply isn't showing itself and I'm not sure any one (or two, or three) games are going to have the average consumer justify a $700-800 investment for the complete PS3 setup.

When the PS3 can beat out the PS2 in any given month I'll be ready to start watching to see if Sony can make a move.
