PS3 is hurting!

I made a booboo for some reason I thought it was FF13 >.> anyway, still looks like a half ass port.

or to play all those amazing online Wii games.... oh wait... there are none!

Then whats up with the complaining?

To top it all off, even if I did have wireless, and they release Smash Bros and it has online... I'd want a wire to have the lowest latency possible.

I hope you realize that netplay console games use up no where near the transfer rate of their ethernet ports, since your internet connection isn't either. The Wii is b/g, so it's likely doing 54Mb/s. Comcast is around 5Mb/s down, 384kb/s up. Even if it was only 11Mb/s, that's still more than enough to where any latency problem is the service. If your connection is larger than that and affordable, hook me up with the name of the service. Most broadband services cap at 384kb up.

If you're sharing files between different PCs, yes, wired is better. If you're browsing/playing games online, both are overkill for majority of online services.

It's not a port, it's the PS3's software emulation upscaling the PS2 cutscenes. So, basically, Euro gamers (and soon, US and JP gamers) will be trading the high compatibility level of the hardware handling the PS2 so those with HDTVs can upscale their old games to look slightly prettier.

Remember when Sony lambasted Microsoft for using software emulation and claimed close to 100% backwards compatibility? It's almost as funny as when they called rumble a 'last-gen feature' and now entering a working relationship with Immersion.

To be honest. I bought a wireless adapter for my 360 and took it back. I get a much, much better connection from sticking with a wire. Maybe it's my network or something but that's my situation. Also noticed this on my CPU using anything associated with the net.

i think wire is better than wireless.. but i have to have wireless.. otherwise.. i wouldn't have internet in my room....

Look, here's analogy. Your average high speed internet connection is a 12 oz. can of Soda. Wireless b is a 16 oz. cup. Wireless g is a 32 oz. cup(Generous, since g is nearly 5x the speed of b, not twice.) 10/100 ethernet is a 64 oz. cup. No matter how you cut it, the only thing preventing the cups from overflowing is the sane 12 oz. of soda. You really shouldn't have any latency issues, unless you're having interference.

It's good in theory but not really true in practice. At any rate I doubt any of my PS2 games will have trouble with compatibility. FF10-12, Kingdom Hearts 1-2, GTA3/ViceCity,SanAndreas, Bully, Suikoden 3-5, Timesplitters 2/3, Star Wars battlefront, ultimate spiderman, gods of war... with 1000 titles by march being compatible these aren't gonna have issues by the time we switch over. I'd gratefully agree to the loss of BC to games I'll never play to get those all upscaled.

Also, if we're going to discuss useless addons, how about that $15 memory card adapter you use once and have no need for ever again?

Well, it means you'll never need a memory card again, can sell your old memory cards and then can sell the adapter.

If you're trying to say Sony was any kind of innovator here, you might want to check into why they lost a 91 billion dollar law suit recently.

Maybe it's me, but I honestly remember the first rumble being from a rumble pack via the N64. I think it came with Star Fox 64 or something. The point isn't that Sony is an innovator. It's that everyone rips everyone off and I really don't care.

Let's take a look at some things Sony has been called out on recently. Ripping off Immersion Corp. with their rumble tech, Creating an innovative new way of control with the SIXAXIS, announcing it only months after Nintendo showed the Wiimote (lawl, I peed my pants a bit laughing at the time), and now, HOLD THE PHONE MAH, putting in a system that is exactly Xbox Live combined with what Nintendo's Mii's system will be like in June but has been showed off already. It's been no question that Sony is the industry copycat, even the fanbois can agree there (God knows there is enough proof), but it's getting out of hand now, haha.

I don't care about rumble or six-axis. When I play my PS3 I want to be sitting back, stretched out and comfortable. I want to be laying down at weird angles and I want to squirm around if I feel like it. I don't want to be sitting upright, my controller flat so I can tilt it in the right direction.

The only thing that's alright is Resistance registers shaking the controller, I don't mind cause I can do that from whatever way I'm sitting and holding the controller. I'd say that beats rumble honestly, but it's kind of like a... yeah it beats rumble but who cares? Neither are important compared to games. Miis and online virtual homes are about as unimportant as all, but I guess for some people, all the little things add up and if it sells more PS3s I'll be happy cause it'll mean more blu-ray players out there and hopefully we can end the damn format war...

Anyway, about Home, it wont help the PS3 out. It still cost $600 and does the same thing as something that cost $400 or less. Actually, you could get a Xbox and a Wii, both the systems online system being replicated, and come out better off. At least then you could have some games to play and the versitility is better too.

It helps to have a good system of its own, even if you could theoretically get it elsewhere. That's some weird logic really you're putting forward.

Anyway, MLB 2k7 = the best baseball game since Ken Griffey Jr.'s Baseball (the first one) on SNES. You should pick it up Fire. The pitching system is badass but multiplayer is kind of ehhh, too many homeruns and not enough basehit and small ball playing.

Yeah I might just wind up getting 2k7 and The Show... they really shot themselves in the foot releasing a month and a half behind 2k7... then again if I wait Sony buys me a free baseball cap of my favorite team! Tough decision... went with 2k7 hockey and haven't really played it that much.

That's not what I was trying to say. That was meant to be read as, "it looks LIKE, emphasis on like, a port." I should have worded that better earlier.

Skaw, I realize what you're saying and I agree, to an extent. However, and believe you me I'd prefer wireless, my connectivity in games is much, much better using the wire and it's not just a select few of us with the same tune. Wire in, I can host games, wire out I can't. That alone is a big deal. Wire in my internet is faster, wire out it's still fast but reminds me of a soso high school connection from the middle of nowhere I once had, and they were plugged in. Wireless is good for transporting and having cable free enviroments but otherwise, I'd go cord and argue for it all day long. It may be a highly regarded statement that is so put out there by specialists it seems true, saying wireless doesn't reduce speed, but I can prove that it does so easily I'm sure most of the world could too.

Sony should pull systems from stores and sell them in Europe. Maybe they'll move!

Unless you have a game that isn't compatible, or needs a third-party peripheral (can you play Guitar Hero on a PS3 yet?) or you want vibration feedback on the game... and even then you're probably not going to get the $15 back reselling to EB/Gamestop and I doubt trying to Ebay them will get you much more.

The point isn't that Sony is an innovator. It's that everyone rips everyone off and I really don't care.

If innovation and originality are that meaningless to you then I guess I do understand why you're such a zealot for the PS3.

I don't know about you but the only games I've played on the Wii where I haven't been able to lay at a weird angle and squirm around are Wii Sports and Wario Ware, and both of those games mention in the manual to play them standing up for maximum enjoyment. I'm sure I could play both of them on the couch but that'd be as much fun as those Gamespot guys had during the Wii preview last November. Trauma Center, Zelda, Rayman, Elebits, Excite Truck, the Internet Channel et al have all been played lying down or off-center from the TV without any loss in playability.

I guess for some people, all the little things add up and if it sells more PS3s I'll be happy cause it'll mean more blu-ray players out there and hopefully we can end the damn format war...

What really surprised me about Blu-Ray vs. HD-DVD is that despite Blu-Ray having a 5:1 advantage on the installed hardware user base and double the available titles, for every 100 Blu-Ray discs sold there are 98.7 HD-DVDs and HD-DVD has an attach rate 5x higher than Blu-Ray per player sold. Shouldn't Blu-Ray be crushing HD-DVD with that many more players out there? A massive advantage like that and they've only last week pulled ahead of HD-DVD in sales. Personally I don't see why I'd spend another $30-35 for a movie I can get on DVD for $10-15 but I'm not on the bleeding edge of technology I guess! Also, it looks like the PS3 is planning to support upscaling DVDs and to me that seems like another strike against buying it on Blu-Ray.

TBQH the only good I see in the PS3 right now is that if my current computer craps out, I can move my PS2 HDD into the PS3, set up Linux on a partition and use it as a $600 work PC that also has the ability to play some games if I ever feel the need to do that.

I don't know we've got a shortage here

I didn't screenshot it but at least one of those Gamestops is out of 360s, they're all out of white DS Lite (and only 2 or 3 have the black/pink ones) and you can't search for Wiis in-store, all you get is a 'put in your email and we'll let you know about online ordering!'

No guitar yet. The gun works. Whatever the going rate is on Ebay now for the adapter = the rate you can buy it at not just sell it at.

The last innovative system I ever played was called the Virtual Boy. If they somehow combined a helmet like that with the remote, I'd say, "sure you're innovative."

I'll give the Wii some credit for the new controller, but I bought the system for Smash Bros, period. They can only bank on their controller so much without having to produce a game that's technically superior to gamecube or a game that anyone would buy on its own without the controller to sell it for them.

Wasn't dissing the Wii, was dissing the 6-axis. However admittedly if I'm tired I'm not going to turn on the Wii(not that I've turned it on in a week anyway) because I find a gamepad simpler.

I haven't paid more than 20 bucks for a Blu-Ray, I've bought everything off Amazon.com. 5 dollars for the movie in high def is an easy sale. I even sold several of my favorite DVDs in favor of the Blu-Ray counterparts: Terminator 1,2,Rambo:FirstBlood.

Your numbers, by the way, are wrong.

http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=12660

These are the most recent sales numbers, a new one is sure to come out for February soon.

"Blu-ray movies outsold those released for the HD-DVD format by more than a 2-to-1 margin during the first week of January. This equates to 47.14 HD DVD titles sold for every 100 Blu-ray titles."

"The report also found that Blu-ray titles outsold HD-DVD releases by nearly a 3-to-1 margin during January's second week, with 38.36 HD-DVD titles sold for every 100 Blu-ray releases."

The equation seems pretty simple to me. With 2 formats in competition, many consumers won't buy a player in fear of being "Beta-maxed." By defeating HD DVD, which is only a matter of time, Blu-ray simultaneously increases the HD market share and cannibalizes HD DVD. More perceived value of Blu-ray = more perceived value of PS3's Blu-ray drive = more customers considering it a good value = more sales.

Why do you think microsoft backed HD DVD in the first place? Outside of gaming they're a software company, it's not like they make more money off Vista based on if a Blu-Ray or HD DVD is sold in it.

I wasn't talking about week-to-week sales, I was talking overall sales since each format's inception. HD-DVD was clobbering Blu-Ray pre-PS3 and even after the PS3 launch it took 3 months for Blu-Ray sales to catch up overall(and I don't know if the pack-in Talladega counted or not.) The top 2 titles are Batman Begins (HD only) and Superman Returns (which has sold more on HD than on Blu-Ray) but honestly only time will tell if either format gets widely adopted. The average consumer probably won't own a HDTV until 2010 at the earliest so they have no incentive to attach to either format.

"Innovation" is kind of a funny thing to be talking about with Nintendo, by the way. What's their next release? Mario Party 8?

Control innovation seems to happen about every 10 years. 80s = move from joystick/paddle to d-pad and buttons. 90s = move from d-pad to dual analog. Today's looking like a move from dual analog to motion-sensitive.

And yeah, it's Mario Party 8 next, and I'm sure those that like the party games will go nuts over it. It's not really all that 'innovative' on the surface (though the previews make it look different than the other 7 MP games) but let's be honest, we're on our 15th Mario platformer or whatever now and they've obviously found ways to keep that fresh and fun.

It also shows the longevity and viability of the product and the ability of Nintendo to make 20+ year old mascots still marketable today. What mascots from the PS1 era are showing up exclusively on Sony products today?

Yes, but HD DVD was winning out until the Playstation 3 launch, but since then Blu-Ray has been outselling HD DVD 2 to 1. There's what.. 5 major studios that don't print in HD DVD and only Universal not selling Blu Ray? Want to talk about top sellers? Wait until Bond comes out this month.

What's the combined market share for HD and Blu-Ray compared to standard DVD? If it's over 10% I'll be surprised. Hell, 5% might be too much right now.

E: And the 'over 1000 games' supported doesn't really mean much when that's only ~43% of the total EU PS2 library and would be about 20% of the US library. A far cry from their 98-100% number they promised pre-launch. At least one console still has 100% compatibility from the last-gen.

See here's the thing about that. People buy Nintendo and buy first-party games. They've built a bat-shit crazy fan base(not that they're crazy to be fans, but how far they take it is quite insane) based on selling the same characters that have been out since SNES. Selling the same games that have been out since we were all children, giving us warm fuzzy memories.

The downside is... how many third party games did you buy for Gamecube? Let me read off my list of Wii games, this is all I bought.

Zelda: Windwaker
Metroid: Prime
Super Smash Bros
Super Mario Sunshine(sucked)

Notice something missing here?

What Wii game does everyone have?

Zelda...
Maybe Warioware?

What is everyone looking forward to?

Metroid... Super Smash Bros?

See the familiar pattern?

I bought the Playstation to buy big, third party games with some first party titles if they were any good.

I bought the Wii to play Super Smash Bros.

You want to give me a new controller? Ok. I'll wave around a wand to play the same exact games I've been playing since I was 5. But it's not innovation, it's just something that's cheap enough to mass produce now. You're the one talking about wanting innovation but are there any innovative games? Isn't the purpose of the system to play games, not brag about how much we like the controller?

Where is the Wii after Metroid and Smash Bros come out? What "new and innovative" ways are we going to amaze me with the exact same game with a new controller?

So what was your point? PS3 controller isn't innovative because the Wii has motion control too? PS3 isn't innovative cause they're not the first person to have an online community therefore it's crap? Ports from last gen and handheld systems are pure innovation?

I'd rather have a system that can innovate by making more complex games with smarter AI, better physics and top of the line graphics that taps into 3rd parties to get constantly fresh games bombarding it, and if they sell well, then they'll become sequels. PS3 and Xbox 360 have that to offer and the Wii has Mario, Zelda and Star Fox to offer... with a new controller!!!

Who knows, maybe since so many people bought Wii, 3rd parties will crank out some new games for it that rely on putting effort into it instead of having a nintendo fanbase.
