PS3 is hurting!

"Ps3 will get better (hopefully) eventually, but by then the new xbox will be nearly completed if not already done- Fact"

Well if xbox 720 is intending to beat FF13, FF13 versus, DMC4, MGS4, god of war 3 and Kingdom hearts 3 to market then 360 will be phased out pretty quickly.

In a couple years PS3 will be in a very nice position, being the most advanced, being a Blu-ray player, which will at that point will have beaten HD DVD and slowly starting to overtake DVD, and with cheaper manufacturing cost, and the system will be better priced for mass marketing. So as long as I'm of the opinion that the PS3 will be worth it eventually, then I can be of the opinion that I'd like to buy it now.

The PS2 is long from dead, and was the most bought console of last christmas... so Sony still has a monster system with a giant user base until the PS3 is ready to take over. Xbox on the other hand is dead, gamecube will soon be dead. If you want to know who owns the market share of today? Sony does. So you think Sony is giving us promises for the future but not delivering today? Yeah. They already own today. By the time the PS2 is dead, PS3 will have a much better lineup. The trouble is that xbox360 and wii aren't just competing with ps3 and each other. They're competing with the PS2 and being last gen doesn't make it any less of a dangerous competitor.

Maybe hardcore gamers who spend on their time arguing on message boards care that the PS2 is 6th gen and ps3 is 7th gen, but market share is market share. As sony slowly sheds last gen market share from PS2 owners ready got 7th gen, they slowly build a game library and lower production costs of the ps3. As they continue to support the PS2, they gain customer loyalty that xbox lost from ditching its original system.

My mistake, the gamecube is dead too. Took at look at the upcoming releases, nothing after march. I guess it doesn't bothing nintendo fans that if they don't want to upgrade they will no longer get any new games.

PS2 kinda hurts the Wii like the 360 hurts the PS3 with multiplatforms. The PS3 isn't going to get full use out of its capabilities when it shares a version with the 360. The Wii is only gonna get PS2 ports with wiimotes tacked on as long as the PS2 is alive.

Fire, I think your dreams would be better placed somewhere else. This thread, over the past few days, has just turned terrible. From your information to your opinions and presenting those opinions as facts, it's not helping your cause. Sony is letting go, slowly but surely... it's time for you to do the same, here. Want to hold out that the future is brighter for the PS3 than any other console, go ahead and good luck. However, to sit here and keep this up, you're not helping your personal cause one bit. The Wii isn't innovative? Don't kid yourself. Microsoft claims innovation? Yeah, right... The 360 isn't new, it's taking place as king for the PS brand. It's old but it worked and Microsoft is making it possible this go around. Point: Now, no one gives a shit but the people who are pissed off they jumped into the Sony boat. People all over the gaming community are starting up threads "PS3 Vs. 360 Vs. Wii" and you can bet most of your money the article is made by a PS3 owner. It's called product insecurity and it's really, really dumb. It's still going on in the MMO world. For example, and I'm guilty here, WoW Vs. FFXI. You know how stupid that shit looks?

Fact: You like your PS3 despite it all. You like the Blu-ray format. You love Sony, period.

Those facts are fine. The phrase, "different strokes for different folks" comes to mind. It's okay for you to like Sony. Now, how about enjoy your items without the insecurity. Let the future play out stop with the nonsense already. Speculation is fun, to a point and that point has now turned to what seems to be insecurity.

I don't see where people derive insecurity out of me trying to keep a console discussion balanced. If anyone who's read any of my posts on QCDN for the last 3 years knows anything about me... it's that I rarely bother to make an argument unless I see my position as being under-represented and in the minority.

Look back at all the major arguments I've been in throughout this message board. Every one it's me arguing against several people at once. All those times I agree with the majority I don't bother to post because it's fucking boring.

this is exactly what this thread was starting to look like. ive read this thread at least once a day and kept up with it.
you summed it up nicely strid

Discussions aren't meant to be balanced. If they balance, it is fine but it's not necessary or even the point, most of the time. This discussion has more repeats than Nick at Night runs in a year and things are also getting blown out of purportion, etc. It's getting sloppy. It's getting how I get when I want to defend a product but also wonder if it was a smart buy. That's how I derive product insecurity.

Like your last post, you're justifying something that doesn't need justyfied.

Over 3+ years of playing this game I've learned MMO players are 95% Nintendo fan boys. You can't even have a decent conversation about any of the other consoles. I remember before the 360 came out, a lot of the same shit was being said "oh, halo onry lolz, we have super mario kart boxing!!!!".

Speculation on this site is always off, except for mine, I'm always right.

We're nowhere near the end of effectiveness in terms of power. You're going to look back at the PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii in 20 years and say, "man, those games look like SHIT!" Technology moves forward, always forward. We're going to have games coming in one day with ultra high def and real photorealism rendered in real time, with models reacting so close to real that you can't tell you're not watching a movie. We're going to not be able to tell as our characters walk down a city street that it's a game we're looking at. As great as Motorstorm and Gears of War look right now, they are great looking games but not realistic. Looking better and better will always be an issue until a person cannot tell they're looking at something fake.

Motion sensor controls on the other hand, has no future. There's nowhere to go, except make the controller more accurate and less glitchy. No matter how we interact, the wiimote is just a different kind of controller. It's a controller that can sense a wide degree of movement, and it's sophisticated but it's limited because there's only so far you can take that.
And this is where you show your ignorance and demonstrate how hard you jack off to processing power alone. Yeah, we can make the games more and more realistic but there is a limit to the extent that it immerses us into the game and we're reaching that limit now. The games look almost life-like, but if they get more lifelike they can unnerve people and remove that level of immersion. It's the same reason why dolls creep a lot of people out, it's a life-like depiction of a human but you know it's not alive and there's no actual life in it's movements. I've been saying this all along, but since you don't understand the differences between motion sensing technology, I'm not surprised you don't get that either.

When we hit the limit of immersion based on graphics, which we're close to already, the only way to make games more immersive is dealing with the controls. Hitting buttons doesn't immerse you at all, swinging your arm and the character moves their arm does. Saying that it's a dead-end in terms of gaming is beyond ignorance, it's beyond even your usual fanboyism, it's idiotic.

That's a year and a half ago, at the time the PS3 did look better than the 360. Since then, Microsoft has gotten several good games out for it and more down the pipe, I changed my mind. Based on the information at the time, the PS3 looked better, but today, PS3 isn't worth the money and doesn't look like it's going to get much better in the near future. Hell, I've laughed at my opinion then; but it changed as the information and the gaming market changed and so did my opinion.

Oh wow, I noticed that the PS3 was more powerful, yeah that's completely the same thing as thinking graphics are the only thing that matters in a video game.

Yes, because processing power only affects graphical quality. Now i remember.

I'd like to challenge this point too, by the way. I check a few boards regularly and see hordes of 15 year old Xbox 360 owners spending their lives trolling all PS3 related sites to badmouth a system they've never even played. I saw on user review sites for Motorstorm, about a week before it came out people were scoring it 1/10 and leaving comments, "PS3 sucks, buy an Xbox 360," and shit like that. Perhaps as a xbox 360 owner, you don't go to PS3 sites and instead see idiotic PS3 owners running around talking shit.

Now I'll talk about the faults of a system if a discussion has been opened when people are bad mouthing the system I'll prefer. This is because I put a lot of consideration into which system I purchased, weighing features, hardware, past performances of Sony, Nintendo, Microsoft, third party support, estimations on market trend and of course price. All the things I took into consideration so far have come true. I assumed that with the 600 dollar price tag, it would not be popular until more games came out. I assumed that while the PS2 is still thriving, next generation won't gain much total market share. I assumed that the blu-ray drive was a protected investment as the early adopters would be using their PS3s to play blu-ray movies, destroying the shit out of HD DVD. All these things have come true. I didn't expect shitloads of great games, because I knew the lineup when I bought the system. I knew when MGS4 was coming out, when FFXIII was coming out, when DMC4 was coming out.

When people go out of the way to bash PS3, when the people who bought should have all understood what they were buying, it feels to me like you're not just bashing the launch. It feels like you're bashing my decision skills. I don't go out of the way to bash Xbox 360(which has the best games at the moment... well behind ps2). I don't go out of the way to bash a Wii, which I bought. I've never said it was a bad system. I've never said it wasn't worth buying. I've said that people OVER-HYPE it. The PS2 and the Xbox 360 are the only systems that are really kicking ass at this moment in terms of games, By the end of May, PS3 will have a lot of the GOOD Xbox 360 ports. It will have Oblivian, Enchanted Arms and Saints Row. The only thing that makes me really want an xbox 360 is Dead Rising..

Now, some of you understand that when I put 600 bucks down for a PS3 I'm not paying for instant justification of my money spent, rather I'm paying for a long term investment of what I believe will be a great system over the course of its lifespan. The trouble is that a lot of the people don't and when you start a discussion with me about consoles, I'm arguing against those people too who feel the need to jump on for random bashing.(i.e. Tagrineth for example) So if you're going to be sensitive about the combative pathway that the discussion is led, you'll have to muzzle your own guys.

I think jumping to conclusions is bad. Having those conclusions owned is even worse.

You did more than see that the PS3 was a more powerful machine, you declared 360 would lose because of that fact.

A better machine allows not only for better graphics, but also more refined gameplay overall.

I believe in the end, PS3 will get market share back based on their history of 3rd party software and their stronger machine.

Atm of course, xbox is running shit, and I don't see Nintendo making that up, because their units are sold, their games are good. Wii sales are going to be limited as the power of the other 2 consoles are exploited by game developers.

There is no denying that a few strong games released in proximity of each other will boost sales a bunch for PS3, and that will be when they make their push for Xbox's spot.

No, Its what people use as a counter when the specifications of the console are brought forth. Increased processing power allows for better physics, better AI, larger maps, more inventive effects (cooler weapons, ect) and yes, better visuals. Visuals add to the game just as much as controlls do, and in certain games, I daresay moreso.

Unless the graphics are so bad that you can't understand what you're seeing, controls are a hell of a lot more important. I'd much rather play a game with average-above average graphics and great controls than a game with beautiful graphics and shit controls. Graphics are still the only thing that people are mentioning; yeah, all of the other uses for processing power is important but when the only thing people talk about in reference to the differences in the consoles is graphics, none of that really matters.

Jumping to conclusions would be saying the PS3 will be the top console because the PS2 was the top console. What I did was make an opinion based on all of the information that was available at the time. At the time, the xbox 360 had nothing exclusive that really interested me, but the PS3 had FF13 and ratchet and clank. Now though, that's still all the PS3 offers me exclusively and the 360 has many more exclusives that I want. That's called an informed decision, the PS3 offers me 2 unique games within the next year or two, the 360 offers me 7; so I'd be an idiot to go with the PS3 now. I'm not even going to buy a 360 for at least a year, if the PS3 finally gets something that I would care about, I might get a PS3 instead; but at the moment, just like that quote almost 2 years ago(although reversed), one console clearly looks better than the other.

You're talking about the uncanny valley.

Moriuncannyvalley.gif

When things fall into a category of looking so close to human, but with a quality of it not being alive about it, it creates a feeling of strangeness. This is because it will remind people of a corpse. For this reason, when developers pass through the uncanny valley phase, they'll need to make the characters not resemble humans. (littlebigplanet)... This phase can be passed through, however. As you can see from the graph, once the image becomes better than the uncanny valley it continues to grow.
