PS3 is hurting!

1080i isn't top of the line viewing experience for the new consoles either.

You can hook computers up to 50' HDTVs with cords. The new video card series also easily play that high of a resolution, especially with SLI or Crossfire. Computers and consoles aren't suppose to take up a huge space. You also sit closer to a computer monitor, one of the reasons the screens are smaller but you can easily buy wireless keyboard and mouse and a huge monitor and play from a distance. Same goes for a console, you usually sit at a distance like on a couch or something.

Everything a console can do, a PC can do too and has internet.

All 3 consoles now have internet, I believe.

Gears of War is coming to PC, actually Decidence. I also don't consider any RTS game on a console worth discussing as it's obviously going to be inferior to a PC game by a large margin. Also PC has an edge for FPS going in with superior controls.

However, the prices I will contest you on. Your top of the line PC is $3500 assembled by hand using wholesale parts. To add to this monitors and high def tvs are the same thing, just different basic classifications. The best resolution, 1080, can be achieved by high end monitors as well as high end high def TVs, and both offer lower resolutions for much cheaper.

And to throw out there, I got my TV from a retailer in new jersey, named 6th Avenue electronics.

http://www.6ave.com/shop/category.aspx?cti=0200&pti=0200&ctype=1

If anyone lives by the NJ/CT/NY area it's a great store for televisions.. for a couple more hundred could have gone bigger, but this was big enough for my tiny space.

Nobody is debating that PC is the best with enough cash pumped in. I'd venture that the best setup is a really high end PC to play all cross platforms that go on PC, ignore all console shooters/rts/mmos, get a high def TV with PC inputs, and get a console for stuff you want that's not a FPS/RTS/MMO and isn't touching PC. Hell make your console a PS3 or get a blu-ray drive on your PC and you have a high def entertainment center(kind of stupid not to with the high def TV). - (not sure how cheap you can get a decent blu-ray drive but probably not much cheaper than just getting a ps3.)

I said most popular game. "Best Game" is an opinion.

The games with the largest communities are PC games.

So basically what do the consoles have?

Playstation banks on Gran Turismo, God of War, the 2K line of sports games, amateur sports games, some fighting games, and resistance.

XBox banks on Forza, the 2K line of sports games, some fighting games and gears of war.

PC has Half Life, Half Life 2 (and all their mods like Counter-Strike and Day of Defeat), World of Warcraft (and every other MMO except FFXI), Diablo series, Starcraft series, Warcraft series (and every other Real Time Strategy game), Quake series, Unreal Tournament series... yea.

You really think PC games are more popular than console games ? Sure they have their communities which are very large, but don't tell me the PC's line up is more popular than a Shigeru Miyamoto project. In this day and age Mario alone is more popular than Mickey mouse.

PC games do not sell as much as console games do, nor do they advertize as much.

As for the money debate... about 5% of people buy their TV's from NewEgg, and its only americans that can. Most people, and adults will shop around at places like Best Buy, Future Shop, etc... so if your gonna quote prices make sure its from a retailer not a wholesaler.

You do not need to buy a new HDTV and a sound system to enjoy playing a brand new PS3.

The PS3 can be hooked up to a monitor (which is, and always was High defination) or a HDTV just like that $3,500 PC tower. A PC like that costs more than 5 PS3's with a 360 and 2 games on the side.

The average console game sells more copies then PC games for sure... but if you pay attention to the Top 10 selling games over a longer period of time you will see where PC dominates.

WoW
WoW: Burning Crusade
The Sims
Supreme Commander (or whatever flavour of the quarter RTS game)
FPS Game

Console games usually sneak in for a little while but are never long staying on the list, and if you look at total sales figures the best console games almost never outsell the best PC games over their lifetimes.

Console games are all about the first week or two of sales, then they die out really fast. And for the most part console games don't have a lot of replayability especially the ones that only have single player campaigns. PC games are and have been marketed towards a multiplayer experience for a long time now.

I really do hope for the day that consoles are dead though, or at least one standard console, not that it'll ever happen. I want one box, one format, 1 set of accessories and controllers, and the hardware value for the total money spent.

Imagining that for example PS3 and Xbox 360 were one $1000 dollar machine instead of a 400 and 600 dollar machine, think about how much better the hardware would be, instead of doubling up money for 2 versions of a video card, 2 different hard drives, ext. That's why PCs are better but as long as there are consoles around, PCs are going to get shorted on games, hard.

Interesting though considering Xbox 360 vs a PC with their lineup.

Halo 2 > Already on PC.
Gears of War > Going to PC.
Bioshock > Going to PC.
Lost Planet > Going to PC.

I find the likelyhood of Mass Affect going to PC very high. Considering Halo 1 and 2 both went to PC, I'm sure Halo 3 will.

I don't really know the reason to get an Xbox 360 over a good PC. Hell they're giving Live Gold to PC owners free and charging 360 owners...

That's one reason I'm tempted not to buy a PC. Sure it'll come out later but the games I wanna get like Fable 2 will be on PC eventually.

And I do agree with Deci about the console vs PC games kinda thing. Generally PC games will be a hit a lot longer after they were released. Though that's usually cause of their internet play where as consoles have only started getting internet around PS2/X-Box release really (Though others had it in the past they didn't have as big a community).

I don't even know why I bother arguing about such a topic. Its like arguing which brand of crayons is the best. They all do the same function, its all personal preference. You can argue till the day you die that PS3 is better, Xbox360 is better, PC is better, Wii is better. It won't matter though because its all which one YOU think is the best and worth the money.

Same with PC.

We never spoke before so there definatly is no argument. I was jut implying that a consumer needn't spend $7,000 to enjoy a PS3. Some of us have HDTVs and some don't. Many of us already do have a nice sound system others don't. PC and PS3 are compatible with these things is all. It is not nessary to have them.

Edit* That's the one Skaw. Crayola !

I wasn't aiming that all at you Anttaru. Just saying its really an argument that won't go anywhere.

I actually don't think there is another brand then Crayola. I've never heard of one. It was the first thing that came to mind as a nice, simple comparison.

Also, the price comparisons was Decidence's. I think $7,000 for a PS3 is more for a home-theatre. But, TVs are getting pretty expensive now-a-days.

Edit: Can you really browse the internet with all the consoles?

TV's are actually getting cheaper, unless you only look to the latest model which is barely any better than the model that came out a month ago. A few months ago I saw a 52" 1080p DLP for about @1200 on a sale, that and a PS3 would be significantly less(1/2 at the most) than you'd pay for a top of the line PC.

You can browse the internet on the Wii, and honestly I can't imagine that the 360 and PS3 would not have that capability at all. It'd be really sad if the Wii had such a basic feature that the stronger consoles didn't have.

360 has no web browsing capability that i know of. The PS3 does, I browse Youtube with it.

I honestly could not disagree with crayon statement any more than I do, especially from an artist's point of view. I remember back in fifth grade my dad bought me some Rose Art (the cheap, shitty crayons, for people who don't know) crayons for school. You can easily tell the difference between Rose Art and Crayola even at the age of ten. Your analogy is about the same as arguing lead density. Yeah, you can keep your .5; I'll use .7 so I can actually do scan trons.

Try using a better analogy next time.

Coloring with anything but a Crayola crayon is like trying to color with a colored candle. The color doesn't transfer well and just makes it look like a giant waxy mess.
