So its happened twice now where i turn on my ps3, and on the main home screen, it randomly flashes a rainy picture, it wont cover the whole screen but it just flashes for a bit, like if on your tv, your cable was going out but not completely.

I restarted it both times and it worked fine, has anyone had this happen to them, is it the ps3 or could it be the HDMI cable?

For some reason I felt that was an excellent description of this page.

Sorry I don't actually know how to help you with w/e your actual issue is though, kinda lame that the PS3 broke. I used to think of them as a dependable system, but lately I've been reading stories of people's PS3s becoming glorified paper weights, and I think my brother's one is on its way too.

Nah, mine isnt broken its working fine, just did that little thing twice. It didnt do it on a game, just on the "dashboard"

Try replacing the HDMI cable or plugging it in to another TV to see if it happens again. If it's happening on both TV's or if the cable doesn't fix it, then it's probably the PS3. No idea what could be wrong with the PS3 if that's the case; you'd have to call sony.

Speaking of HDMI cable, mine fried. Does anyone know if the old PS2 cable will work for the PS3? The one with the 3 coloured end? Red, yellow, white?

Yes they do, even the PS1 A/V cables work with the PS3.

I figured they did, it's just every damn combination at the back of my tv won't work for them.

I'll figure it out.

If I recall correctly, I think you also need to change the settings on your PS3 if you're switching between A/Vs to HDMI.
I know I had to do it when I went from A/Vs to HDMI, but I never once attempted to go back. Might be something to look into if you still can't get back to A/Vs.

The kicker is: with the HDMI, I had to have both inputs plugged in at the same time to make the switch. A/Vs in to be able to see what I was doing, then the HDMIs for when I did switch.
I don't recall my PS3 automatically attempting to adjust for the different input, which hit me as strange when I only had the HDMI in when I got my HDTV.

I just said screw it and went out to buy another HDMI cable. There was no way I was going to play without one for long anyway. Thanks though.

if you hold down the power button unitll it beeps twice the video settings reset. I've done this by accident a couple of times...
