I've been searching for awhile and i can't seem to find anything online about it, so I'm hoping our wonderful PS3 section here at QCDN can help me out.

I'm getting the 80GB Metal Gear PS3 when it comes out and i have a few questions.

I know that the 80GB model is only getting better with the BC issue (at about 90% as i understand it now), but then it said "mainstream" games. How well do the more rare PS2 games play out, as they are most of the games in my collection.

Also since i have learned recently that all PS3s are fully PS1 compatible i'm wondering how the save files work, and this doubles as a PS2 memory saving question.

Do i need to have memory cards to be able to save, or do they just save on to the HD? I can't find any of my important memory cards anymore so transferring old data isn't really an issue.

PS3 allows you to save both PS2/PSX files to your hard drive.

you create "internal" memory cards essentially. And set it to either PS1 or PS2 :P that's how you save them. You need to get another thing to connect the old memory card to the PS3 but it's not that expensive and not a big deal.

you dont have to get that unless you want to take your saved game files from the memory card and transfer them to the ps3. other than that, ps1 and ps2 will save directly to the drive as if it were a memory card
